@@KING17626 yup, Danny's been confused for years now. He needs the time off, it's AL Haymons plan, etc. Truth is Danny was never an elite talent after 140. Good fighter with an iron chin. Whenever he stepped up against elite competition he didn't pull the trigger. It's almost like he just posterizes just to look like he's doing something. Danny's been tricking the public for a while. Not me though. I been saw his decline, not throwing enough punches being a one trick pony and not hungry. His PBC paydays are gone. The weight classes and inactivity are excuses. He just needed that one payday to support his sisters and dad. Go ahead and retire. I don't care if you lose. It's how you lose.

I think his passion for greatness died out 5-7 yrs ago. 35-36 with todays knowledge & medicine is not too old if you know how to take care of your body and really want it. Garcia best years were 2012 and 2013, practically been retired since fighting Porter in 2018, and last true meaningful fight? 2016, against Thurman... comparing Garcia to De La Hoya is comical, you might as well just get on two knees.

    • @SkindogBoxing

De La Hoya is an almost perfect comparison. As soon as as he stepped up too much to a weight class where he didn’t belong, he got sent back down to 154~by Bernard who is a much bigger dude. Oscar barely made it past Sturm at 160, and based on that performance had no business getting in there with Bernard. Bernard finished him with a single well placed liver shot. De La Hoya did have success in going back down to 154 and beating Mayorga, and I thought he beat Floyd too. Danny could go back down to 154, but really needs to do a gut check here and some soul searching. You can’t play boxing. If Danny is to continue on, he needs to get in with who are similar in size and reach, Lara has an insane 75.5” reach advantage, like 6-7 inches more than Danny’s.

I think a lot of us who have competed can identify with your thoughts, but I respect the sentiments of those like you who have done it at the highest level.
Motivation is so tricky because it can never prepare you for contentment.
Once contentment hits, you have to decide in you can operate in a competitive environment.
A few can, but most cannot.
Because as you said, you have to decide, if you’re willing to go, where you no longer “need” to go…because you’ve already been there.

I think having Angel as his dad has taken a lot out of Danny. There is just so much BS you have to deal with with that guy, that it must just wear Danny down.

How can anyone be surprised by this ? This is a guy that padded his record with cherry pick after cherry pick. Angel Garcia is quoted saying “ why fight each other when you can fight a salka?” Even the move up in weight for the sole purpose of not suffering through a weight cut is a major sign in a fighters mental state. Danny was never cut like that

I hope Danny Garcia can bounce back if he chooses to fight again but because of him being inactive and the fact age catches up to every fighter it might be best to retire at this point.

Lara hit Danny with that jab and Danny had Spence flashbacks. I think Danny is done. And that is okay. He had a good run and we the fans had fun watching him and his no-look hook… 😎

i mean it seems like he’s done. but if thurman is still trying to come back a rematch at 154 would make sense for both of them. familiar with each other, end of their careers and one last decent pay day.

Father time is undefeated. We all have a physical peak and sadly Danny is past his.
Mid 30s is a weird age in the sense that it varies so much in physical terms. Some people are better than ever at that age, others can be totally past it. Look at B-Hop, he was at his best in his late 30s.

Danny lost his love for boxing after the Mathysse fight , in conjunction with the birth of his first child.. fighting once a year or every two yrs. In addition he’s all set as far as finances.. he owns mad property in Florida , Philly, & I believe also in Puerto Rico. He had the talent & potential but decided not to be dedicated. Angel was more dedicated to boxing than Danny , to bad Angel wasn’t a boxer ,probably would’ve been great. In conclusion yeah Danny should retire there is nothing to think about in making that decision

There's easier guys to (jump up a few weight divisions and) fight a comeback fight with than a tricky Cuban southpaw like Lara. Danny, was never going to be able to force Lara to fight any other fight than what Lara wanted.

I could see Danny taking a send-off fight in Philly against someone easy, but he's probably done. I never would have expected him to come out looking as flat as he did. I think it is indeed his personal/mentality issues and the inactivity because 36 isn't even that old nowadays, especially for a boxer known for being fundamentally sound with a good chin and conditioning.

I think it’s over for that whole era to be honest. The sun has set. Danny should be a hall of famer. With a win I saw him as first ballot no question. But even in a stoppage loss in a fight where he was completely outclassed and checked out mentally he still is a hall of famer. As with Lara. He earned the hall of fame nod.
