It's 2020 and I still come back to this video for inspiration for what kind of performance can be done with simple effects, a few patterns, and muting + unmuting tracks. There's so much beauty in the simplicity.
Very strong performance by Bishi, this is not easy to do. The breaks, changes, mods, everything. The EMX doesn't come with a bank of supersaws and a thousand presets, it had raw waves and the ability to modulate between two oscillators in a variety of ways. NO polyphony per each of only 5 synth parts, save for the chord mode. This guy knows this unit like the back of his hand, great stuff.
@Gmiester07 pay attention to what's happening. it's being recorded into an external tascam recorder. the audio from that was layered over the top of the video in iMovie. If you knew how to operate these machines, or knew anything about making music in general, you'd be able to see and hear precisely what's happening. Sorry but i can't help it if you're not aware enough to understand what you're looking and listening to.
probably the best production iv heard from youtube/demo. Makes all the difference when people make the sonic effort and show what these machines are really capable off. FUCK YES!
This is some of the best stuff I've heard recently! Big ups! And who cares about what happened in the past? This guy is (still) producing some sick sounding stuff, and that's all that matters. Keep it up, Mista!
Unless you know this kit then you won't have a clue what he's doing.. I have one of these and it takes talent to work this out like this. Great jam, I love this. Awsome.
Slick Absolutely. It takes the EMX working at 100% with no issues(pretty rare these days as they have inherent issues) and someone who has a very deep and experienced bond with the EMX to do what He is doing. Also it takes a lot of natural talent with drum machines that cant really be taught, only felt with very nuanced feedback from your hands, eyes and ears.
Hey Mista, love the records you release, and the stuff you've done here shows how much you enjoy 'jamming', which is amazing fun, sitting at a PC for days on end can leave you feeling like you have no ideas. I can tell you have the same passion for the music (and it's top form in the 90's), much respect
9:06 this is my favourite tune from this set. He nailed the sound of this device and gived us the classic raw power of the back in the days techstep music at one time. Hands down!
Bishi! Don’t ever let ANYBODY tell you how to think, cancel culture will always be a thing, but don’t EVER let em change you bro! There are more like minded people out there than you know. GWAN SON!!!!
@@MistabishiTV I’m from the states, believe me, EVERY Western civilization is being invaded. For us, it’s the Southern border of Mexico. It’s all part of their plan for a replacement.
@choobist oops missed this amongst the drivel. just put the compressor as the last thing in the chain, and mix everything into it apart from the sub. it's also sometimes nice to leave a kick and snare layer out of the fx chain as well to get a slightly more open sound to things.
@MistabishiTV Thank you very much. It's good to know that the emx-1 is capable of getting this sound, but at the same time it makes me realize how little I know about production. I'm glad you got your own youtube and are posting vids like this. I love watching people work with machines live and getting to see a pro like yourself working one of these machines is fantastic. thank you.
@fivefoflow no post-production other than normalizing to 0.00dbfs. Just put the compressor effect as the last thing in the fx chain and mix every sound into it until it sounds right. leave the sub out of the fx, and anything with too much low-end in it will cause ducking, which is desireable for certain things but not for others.
onnolab Do watch Sonic State's review of the 2014 Electribe. Mr. James Pullen (Mistabishi) does state he will indeed be doing sets like this when Korg releases the unit officially, he's said if he uses the electribe 2K14 to make material now it would be cheating, and a valid point is valid.
@cromlek different every time really. some tracks just made from individual samples from it plus other stuff, other tracks literally recorded straight out the back of this thing in one take then editted afterwards.
Mista bishi please do a tutorial mate, i think the views would go through the roof. Had one of these for a year now and still struggling to get create a full track on it.
I love this mix so much! And I'm not even into DnB... Listened to it to fall asleep and to wake up... It has so much depth both sonically and structurally. Great work! Thanks for sharing! I want to have EMX-1 so badly, it hurts. Pity they are still so expensive used and even more pity I have no skill nor talent to make anything on these things to be worth getting for me. But I guess I would play it till it falls apart. I like physical knobs and flashy lights, fuck daws! :D
sounds dope i just dont want to imagine what u might do with two of those... really makes me want to get this nifty little box asap eventhough theres v2 out now ... kool stuff
I also have a emx and yes hes re-programed the emx.You dont get these sounds or loops straight out the box.But shows you what the emx is capable of if you no how to program it.Mitsi makes it look easy when you and i no its not easy.
awesome - i had two of those and an ESX all hooked up for a time and the results were ridiculous. Heavily underrated lil boxes. Love them. - I just wish KORG would amalgamate the two with 8 outputs - that would be a winner.
@cromlek yeh i'd love that. it's just not quite enough the EMX, and linking with the ESX makes thing slightly fiddly. They need to build the ultimate single box... one unit to rule them all!
@MistabishiTV thats my big wish, too ^^ Should be big enough to include a sampler, a49 keyboard, drum pads, a touch pad and tons of knobs and fx :P my emx is cool too, but i need moar ! we will see what KORG will bring out on the NAMM 2012 on the 19-22 of January 2012
MV & EMX combo. I use a roland MV8000 to sequence my EMX since 16/32 steps is too rigid for my tastes. I want to use the MV for notes but the EMX motion sequence feature. Every time I try to record just the MOTION SEQ, the EMX is also recording the notes in from the MV. When I delete those note steps manually by unlighting the keys, it appears I also lose the motion sequence. PLEASE tell me there is some way around this. I love my EMX but the 16steps does NOT work for my swing. Other than this, I love my EMX when combined with sequencing & sampling on my MV. LBjr
i have been in such a raving mood recently and this just made my cup runneth over! it's really hard to find the gems of old techno, trance, drum n bass, house and the like and i'd love to get some artist suggestions. unfortunately i'm too young to have experienced the good ol' raves so now i just wanna fucking start my own!
i can assure u that the one at 5:57 is a korg pattern 100%..he only changed the sounds.. ..the piano tune at the begeinning is his own written..i'll give him that....but that's not the point....it's just that he's playing it full on..with energy...and very very well.
@MistabishiTV ...IN THAT CASE MISTABISHI...MI STUPISCI (which in italian means: you astonish me/you surprise me) anyway...the one i thought i could remember as an original korg patern was not the first one with the piano but the one going at 6:09. very well played evreything..full of energy ! spot on! love the one at 9:18
Probably the best groovebox video in the history of grooveboxes
This 15 minute clip has more energy and flow than 98% of the shit out today.

I had Kinda forgotten about Mista. Then got I-music, I've missed so much, guy blows me away! New tracks and sets are soooo sick.

Respect dude, great performance / production skills. 1999 d&b was golden year indeed. Thanks !

I can't tell you how many times I listened to this one. And the track when you were sitting in a car jamming. Gives me chills every time.
I used to have Korg EMX. The ability and technique on display here is astonishing. I never got those sounds out of mine.
He has played on my sound system a couple of times at warehouse raves and let me tell you this: IT ROCKS!
Using goggles to protect from DnB shrapnel flying out of the EMX! Mista Magic!
7:17 gives me goose bumps every time I hear it, raw!!!
damn this is great!! had no clue emx can do all that. grabbed me at 3:59 and didn't let loose. lovely lovely beats there. much respect to you
Oh my lord!
İ keep coming back to this mix since it was released.
Pure power!
Han cette tuerie c'est de très loin une des meilleures perfs que j'ai pu entendre jusqu'ici avec une seule emx1, incroyable.
back after 3 years and still love this shit!
This is a gem and i still coming back for this mix. Man, so many years come by since it was released and it still holds the power!
Best groovebox demo ever. Absolutely pushing the gear to its limits. Hot.

I listen to this every time I’m painting or drawing sumn 🔥🔥

Such an unorthodox rhythm! Love it!

ps square waves.

@andygaro1 no it's not, it's Piano Tune by Peshay. I programmed it in for fun.
incredible, true dnb vibe , my fav is 12.46 great job.
I CANT GET ENOUGH OF THIS MIX
Very skilled !!! Congratulations!

this is so sick, goddamn, impressive!
this is GIFT ! i LOVE your music !!!
This video saved my life ^^ ;p big up !!! excellent mastering -.-
Please upload a set like this with the new 2014 Electribe. You will sell tonnes for Korg
onnolab Do watch Sonic State's review of the 2014 Electribe. Mr. James Pullen (Mistabishi) does state he will indeed be doing sets like this when Korg releases the unit officially, he's said if he uses the electribe 2K14 to make material now it would be cheating, and a valid point is valid.
I love the hell out of this, have to listen to every so often and share with my peeps
Crazy skills. Watched this a few times over the years. So when are you making a jam video with the new E2?
Oh dude, you high my mind right now.
I guess it went wild in 89 but nobody was online ahah
Cant understand how its possible to be this good with that unit!
@cromlek different every time really. some tracks just made from individual samples from it plus other stuff, other tracks literally recorded straight out the back of this thing in one take then editted afterwards.
The recorded video quality only enhances this
Way to show what that thing can do!
This is one of my all time favorite videos
Amazing!
Just plain awesome! Would love to see go real old skool with a EM-1...
Mista bishi please do a tutorial mate, i think the views would go through the roof.
Had one of these for a year now and still struggling to get create a full track on it.
keep pushing budC:!
You know guys this is just mashing with a cd playing. Up for a dnb award this year though. New category...best young Gammon racist.
why not just use it as a sound module and then arrange your tracks in a DAW? Thats what I plan to do with the ONE I JUST GO TODAY, YEEEEEEEEEEEAH!!!
Take up golf...!
That's really impressive mate!
This is strong rave music. Bishi-san, props to you!
sick skills! great stuff!
8:12 wow, love these sounds. I hear a lot of Prodigy in them
You're just hearing Korg's architecture in Prodigy records.
@@MistabishiTV yeah, what "real synth" from Korg has the same type of synth engine as this? The ms 2000?
@@Barefoot67 yup ms2000. It's the mmt engine. Also found on Korg Radius
dude, seriously....WOW!!

get the mx-1. had both. sold electribe2. you'd have to pry the mx-1 from my cold, dead hands cheers!
Back to the beginning of pure talent
Holy fuck this electribe jam is making my head explode!! Radical!!!!!!
Pretty Sic. Keep It Up man,
regardless of if it's a korg pattern or your own (and i really think it's yours), you know how to play that machine, dude. well done.
Are the songs all in presets? never heard some of them on my emx-1
I also have a emx and yes hes re-programed the emx.You dont get these sounds or loops straight out the box.But shows you what the emx is capable of if you no how to program it.Mitsi makes it look easy when you and i no its not easy.
Presets? Are you serious?
@Matt Greer haha. totally. put me on the waiting list for a groovebox with these presets!
+[ D3DNS1D3 ] SMH.. "presets" Honestly.
WOW this was great!
I wonder if you could do some stuff with the new Polyend tracker.
hey..do you have a tutorial how to make build ups and how to switch between styles
LOVE SET
nuff respect sir amazing great work

Hope your doing ok still coming back to this naughty naughty
Living good thanks for asking! Keep your eyes peeled for more exm1 noise ups on this channel in the not too distant future... 😀

Jedi tricks!!! The build and drop @ 4:15 KILLS!!! A true craftsman that knows his tools
@cromlek yeh i'd love that. it's just not quite enough the EMX, and linking with the ESX makes thing slightly fiddly. They need to build the ultimate single box... one unit to rule them all!
good work !
Man if korg made a new EM/SX model with USB and more memory for samples and some more modern FX Id be all over that bad boy.
awesome spectrum of ideas
this is sick!!! I love it!
this machine is still better than the electribe2
Synthematix is it?
Julian Sanza yes.
It's "worse" for raw oldskool music I think, but it has a far more contemporary and modern sound than emx1
just one more q: how do you get those bass sounds, samples or internal synthesis?
Julian Sanza the emx doesn't allow you to load your own samples man so it's the sounds on the box
