This video was a life saver! Thank you so much! My bass teacher had given me a few pointers on how to change the strings but nothing for how to clean the fretboard. Great quality video! Thanks again!
Great video! My bass neck is a mess and this was the first one i clicked on.. Im pretty nervous to use the steel wool, i guess i need to have a light hand...
Try just using a cloth on the frets to start with and rub reasonably hard, you'll still get quite a lot of dirt off the frets. If you go down the steel wool route just make sure you tape off the fretboard otherwise you'll scratch the wood. The other thing to consider (which is why some people don't like using the steel wool) is its a bit messy, the wool breaks down quickly and leaves lots of fine fibres around. As long as you clean them up its fine, don't let them get all over the pickup though
I think the main problem with oil and maple is generally if you have a maple fretboard it is probably lacquered, using oil on top of lacquer doesn't work because it won't soak in. So you just need to clean these rather than "feed" the wood. Dunlop do make a cleaner product that can be used. Or a damp cloth and very small amount of washing up liquid. Just got to make sure its cleaned up afterwards.
I wouldn't encourage the use of wire wool tbh. It gets everywhere and you wouldn't want any of it getting into your electrics. You'd be better off using silver polish wadding like Duraglit, much safer.
Fair point. Thank you for mentioning it. It does tend to get a bit messy. I usually find I get good results when I'm careful though. The wadding is a good idea.
You could've cleaned the bridge as well that was in need of cleaning while the strings were removed review your there a dust build up behind the saddles.

Watching videos of people polishing fret boards and restringing guitars may as well be classified as pornography. So Beautiful ;)
It does seem quite aggressive, but in actual fact the fine steel wool is only rubbed over a few times and doesn't impact on fret height.

If it is available where you are, I recommend Music Nomad F-1 oil on the fretboard.
how many times per year i need clean the fretboard ?
What kind of cloth did you use to clean the fretboard?
also you can get fret protectors rather than masking tape.

+Anthony Romero Thank you Anthony, I appreciate the comment.
1:31 doesn't that degrade the fret height and screw up things a lot??
how much does guitar lemon oil usually cost?
Very good video! Thanks for posting.
Many thanks Musicman
What kind of oil we can use in maple fret board?

Great informative video :)
I looked at the video, seemed like you have to rub it in a bit but i didn't see a few.

If you're in the uk try andertons.co.uk, they should have some. Any good guitar shop will have some.
Indian Laurel works for the oil, doesn’t it .
... otherwise they will stick to the magnet. Thanks for subscribing.
