FANS IN FOCUS: Very loud full house roars SWFC to 3-0 win over WBA

Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 West Bromwich Albion in Skybet Championship 2023/24. A sell-out Hillsborough crowd of more than 33,000 fans cheered the Owls to a vital win in their battle to avoid relegation. Along with a full Spion Kop, North Stand and South Stand, the Leppings Lane lower stand was opened up for home fans, adding to the great atmosphere.

The support this season has been remarkable in the face of adversity. Once you get more than 30,000 into Hillsborough, the atmosphere is a match for most grounds because the noise reverberates around the old-style stands. Personally, I'd prefer it if any modernisation of the stadium was subtle and minimal in order to maintain the unique character of Hillsborough. I'd far rather put up with pillars in my view than go to one of these soulless new grounds like Stoke, Coventry, Derby, Leicester, Doncaster, Middlesbrough, Hull, Rotherham etc

Brilliant scenes. Hillsborough's stands hold the noise so well. It's much more atmospheric than all these purpose built out of town clone ground. Long may we continue to watch games at a real football ground.
