Sometimes you’re going to be seen as an oddity and you’re not going to be the first choice, but those moments are often the most defining in one’s life, so they see themselves as the second choice and oddity, but other people can only see other’s successes.

I've been overweight my whole life, and something pretty similar to this movie happened to me in real life, I was tutoring this boy I was in love with and we became really close and I almost believe he actually had feelings for me, but my bbf at the time was ...yeah A Rose and the moment she came into the picture I new I didn't stand a chance. They kissed and fooled around in front of me breaking my heart, I didn't take revenge or anything, I just lost faith and a lot of self-steem. It still hurts today so I identify a lot with the mc, I don't get why some people don't like this movie. I think is brilliant. ❤️ Btw things haven't change much on my front, I'm still an overweight sunflower, I just don't care much for flower pickers anymore, I'm blooming in the wild now :)

But I think the lesson was that the mc was feeling less and immediately assumed the boy was shallow wich is proved wrong in the end. I can understand why people say they think Veronica deserved better at the ending. But she got something better than a romantic ending. She now believes in herself and is a better person. She is smart, and capable of anything she puts her mind to and is much happier. She doesn't need romantic love to have a good ending.
A lot of people says that Veronica deserved better but I believe she had a good ending too. She found herself, she is now free from peer pressure and even when she studied for the wrong reasons it led her to a better path and she found her passion.

As an English teacher in Turkey, and as a father when I watched it, I almost cried three times and have been touched so much.. have taken great lessons regarding communication with my daughters, being yourself, importance of knowledge, poetry, and writing skills etc. I watched the movie again this time together with my three daughters (11,13, 15). By the way, as a great influence on me, I have started to hug them after they come back home from school. Normally I really love them, taught them how to swim in local half primitive swimming pools, how to ice skate at the shopping mall together with myself etc etc. Yet, expressing and showing that you love them, you care them really matters. Effective communication lacks nowadays and we should be aware and try to handle it. As of the discussion below as to who deserved more happy ending and whether Sierra was too much selfish etc, both Sierra and Veronica were great. They both deserved a lot, and they both got it. A transformation from a snob girl to a philosopy queen is a great achievement and award. Assembling Sierra and Jamey was her manifestation of her great transofrmation and revealation. I would like to congratulate all of them. Great movie. Great song.

To all people that say Sierra was bad.... Anyone would have done something like that in a moment of rage and grief. She thought her friend betrayed her and made her lose a chance at true love. She then shows regret so.... Her mistakes make her human, not a monster.
She was bad. She was a terrible person and not just in exposing her friend. Her mistakes are honest and sincere, it's okay to make mistakes. But how can someone be so heartless? For someone who boasts on knowing Dickens and being extremely smart; she pushed Dan away and manipulated Veronica AND Jamie and got mad when she thought vEronICa BetrAyeD hEr. She knew that she was playing Jamie and dragging Veronica along. She knew she was going to hurt someone. She just didn't expect herself to be hurt first. I want to love this movie, the idea of a really good guy realising how beautiful a really good girl is, even if it isn't magazine beautiful, is amazing. But the cat fishing element ruined it (I know thats like the whole plot line but yeah). I would've preferred a more tragic ending, like imagine *SPOILER ALERT*: their romance was cute, but it was built on lies and deception. And no matter how long we live in a fantasy, reality kicks in. The taller the tower of lies she built, the harder the fall was going to be. He fell in love with her yes, but once the truth was revealed he didn't have the same feelings anymore, the truth hurts but it's the truth. He shouldn't have accepted her after finding out what she did. And she should've learnt from her mistakes and grew as a better person as a result.

That does not justify her actions, they are still wrong. We all have insecurities but that doesn't mean we get a free pass to be mean and then be forgiven out of nowhere without even apologizing or feeling any remorse. The moment that conflicts the most in this movie is the kiss, the writers didn't care a single bit about consent, which is equal for men and women. She kissed him without his consent and let me tell you that is just fucked up. The fact that he decides to date her after that is way beyond reality, it is so unreal it gives girls a fake view of what is correct and what isn't. The movie is literally about a girl playing victim to get what she wants with no real consequences to her acts. LEARN TO LOVE YOURSELF.

I would say that her bad behavior was the purpose of the movie. I liked the movie exactly because it shows a person with flaws and not the typical evolution of someone to being the "perfect acting person". Like I'm kinda tired of seeing stories only about good people. Humans aren't perfect, you guys don't even know what all the people on earth did in their lives when you say "it doesn't represent reality". Do you forget that rapists and murderers exist ? Indeed what she did was awful. I wouldn't have done that in her place either (I'm overweight too) I hated when she kissed him too and I think he should've hated her for it BUT don't compare your experience with someone else's (even if she's fictional). She isn't as strong as you, it's obvious she was weak. She uses self pity a lot cause she isn't strong enough to look past others' opinion and thus, she became selfish and made all the awful things we see in the movie. When you say she has no remorse, I disagree. The song is the proof of her remorse. Yeah it's about the fact she still doesn't feel good in her body, but if you look at it remembering she did it AFTER breaking Jamie's and Veronica's heart, the lyrics clearly ask for forgiveness. The sunflower is more about her personality too at that moment. She felt awful, she realised that what she did wasn't the best of ideas, she realised what she lost and made it in that song. She sent it to veronica and Jamie to ask forgiveness. I don't think she was hoping for it from jamie since the night of the ball she didn't even want to go anymore. And I too don't think they should've been together so suddenly. It should've taken more tume, for them to restart knowing each other and for jamie to know the new Sierra, not the Sierra who hide behind her friend to get attention or "sexually assaulted" him or exposed a dear friend. But the Sierra who learned from those mistakes and knows how to cherish what she has instead of wanting always more. In short, she should've been apologizing to him every morning before trying to be friends again. Well, I wrote a lot I don't know if it's clear That's MY OPINION

Everyone is saying that sierra was selfish and didn't deserve what she got in the end but that's not the point of the film. the meaning behind it is that someone who doesn't like her appearance and isn't confident in themselves turns selfish to see if someone could fall in love with their words and heart not their appearance. Veronica was a selfish person and changed but sierra was stayed true to herself and didn't lie about anything she said just her appearance. The meaning behind it is that nowadays all society care about is looks and personality is a second but do you really think Jamey would of even looked at sierra twice if showed him straight away, yes she lied but in the end he fell in love with her true words and her heart not her appearance!
At the same time, if you are being real, there is no way Jamey could forgive her after she cat fished him. If the genders were reversed, there could be sexual assault cases filed. There is no way he'd forgive her that easily, let alone get back together with her.

I've been overweight my whole life, and something pretty similar to this movie happened to me in real life, I was tutoring this boy I was in love with and we became really close and I almost believe he actually had feelings for me, but my bbf at the time was ...yeah A Rose and the moment she came into the picture I new I didn't stand a chance. They kissed and fooled around in front of me breaking my heart, I didn't take revenge or anything, I just lost faith and a lot of self-steem. It still hurts today so I identify a lot with the mc, I don't get why some people don't like this movie. I think is brilliant. ❤️ Btw things haven't change much on my front, I'm still an overweight sunflower, I just don't care much for flower pickers anymore, I'm blooming in the wild now :)

@@melanyjimenez4686 Oh I see, well that's the plot of Cyrano de Bergerac basically, a lot of movies had taken after it before, considering today standards maybe they should be more sensitive about it, I give you that. But I think the lesson was that the mc was feeling less and immediately assumed the boy was shallow wich is proved wrong in the end. (The part of the kiss was kinda stupid tho, who's not gonna know they're being cheated c'mon!) Anyways, to me, the movie is brilliant at some level. Thanks for sharing your opinion.

As an English teacher in Turkey, and as a father when I watched it, I almost cried three times and have been touched so much.. have taken great lessons regarding communication with my daughters, being yourself, importance of knowledge, poetry, and writing skills etc. I watched the movie again this time together with my three daughters (11,13, 15). By the way, as a great influence on me, I have started to hug them after they come back home from school. Normally I really love them, taught them how to swim in local half primitive swimming pools, how to ice skate at the shopping mall together with myself etc etc. Yet, expressing and showing that you love them, you care them really matters. Effective communication lacks nowadays and we should be aware and try to handle it. As of the discussion below as to who deserved more happy ending and whether Sierra was too much selfish etc, both Sierra and Veronica were great. They both deserved a lot, and they both got it. A transformation from a snob girl to a philosopy queen is a great achievement and award. Assembling Sierra and Jamey was her manifestation of her great transofrmation and revealation. I would like to congratulate all of them. Great movie. Great song.

To all people that say Sierra was bad.... Anyone would have done something like that in a moment of rage and grief. She thought her friend betrayed her and made her lose a chance at true love. She then shows regret so.... Her mistakes make her human, not a monster.
She was bad. She was a terrible person and not just in exposing her friend. Her mistakes are honest and sincere, it's okay to make mistakes. But how can someone be so heartless? For someone who boasts on knowing Dickens and being extremely smart; she pushed Dan away and manipulated Veronica AND Jamie and got mad when she thought vEronICa BetrAyeD hEr. She knew that she was playing Jamie and dragging Veronica along. She knew she was going to hurt someone. She just didn't expect herself to be hurt first. Maybe she's not a monster, but I would hate to be in the same vicinity as her.
She was a selfish and horrible person. People who do that don't deserve the boy at the end.

It’s crazy how much I relate to this song
I want to love this movie, the idea of a really good guy realising how beautiful a really good girl is, even if it isn't magazine beautiful, is amazing. But the cat fishing element ruined it (I know thats like the whole plot line but yeah). I would've preferred a more tragic ending, like imagine *SPOILER ALERT*:
their romance was cute, but it was built on lies and deception. And no matter how long we live in a fantasy, reality kicks in. The taller the tower of lies she built, the harder the fall was going to be. He fell in love with her yes, but once the truth was revealed he didn't have the same feelings anymore, the truth hurts but it's the truth. He shouldn't have accepted her after finding out what she did. And she should've learnt from her mistakes and grew as a better person as a result.

That does not justify her actions, they are still wrong. We all have insecurities but that doesn't mean we get a free pass to be mean and then be forgiven out of nowhere without even apologizing or feeling any remorse. The moment that conflicts the most in this movie is the kiss, the writers didn't care a single bit about consent, which is equal for men and women. She kissed him without his consent and let me tell you that is just fucked up. The fact that he decides to date her after that is way beyond reality, it is so unreal it gives girls a fake view of what is correct and what isn't. The movie is literally about a girl playing victim to get what she wants with no real consequences to her acts. LEARN TO LOVE YOURSELF.

I would say that her bad behavior was the purpose of the movie. I liked the movie exactly because it shows a person with flaws and not the typical evolution of someone to being the "perfect acting person". Like I'm kinda tired of seeing stories only about good people. She uses self pity a lot cause she isn't strong enough to look past others' opinion and thus, she became selfish and made all the awful things we see in the movie. When you say she has no remorse, I disagree. The song is the proof of her remorse. Yeah it's about the fact she still doesn't feel good in her body, but if you look at it remembering she did it AFTER breaking Jamie's and Veronica's heart, the lyrics clearly ask for forgiveness. The sunflower is more about her personality too at that moment.
She felt awful, she realised that what she did wasn't the best of ideas, she realised what she lost and made it in that song. She sent it to veronica and Jamie to ask forgiveness. I don't think she was hoping for it from jamie since the night of the ball she didn't even want to go anymore. And I too don't think they should've been together so suddenly. It should've taken more tume, for them to restart knowing each other and for jamie to know the new Sierra, not the Sierra who hide behind her friend to get attention or "sexually assaulted" him or exposed a dear friend. But the Sierra who learned from those mistakes and knows how to cherish what she has instead of wanting always more.
In short, she should've been apologizing to him every morning before trying to be friends again.

Im just going to clear up something really fast, remember that she acted slefish and acted through jealousy because of a varied of reasons but I guess this just makes her more relatable to most teenagers. We tend to act through strong feelings at times without thinking about the damage we do and without thinking about the outcome of the situation. Even thou you might hate her character because what she did, let me just say even if we dont so something as dramatic as what she did to veronica we still hurt people do to pur strong feelings at times or at least thats how i view it...

Everyone is saying that sierra was selfish and didn't deserve what she got in the end but that's not the point of the film. the meaning behind it is that someone who doesn't like her appearance and isn't confident in themselves turns selfish to see if someone could fall in love with their words and heart not their appearance. Veronica was a selfish person and changed but sierra was stayed true to herself and didn't lie about anything she said just her appearance. The meaning behind it is that nowadays all society care about is looks and personality is a second but do you really think Jamey would of even looked at sierra twice if showed him straight away, yes she lied but in the end he fell in love with her true words and her heart not her appearance!
At the same time, if you are being real, there is no way Jamey could forgive her after she cat fished him. If the genders were reversed, there could be sexual assault cases filed. There is no way he'd forgive her that easily, let alone get back together with her.

I don’t get why you all hating on Sierra or Veronica? They’re both humans and have their perspectives just like we have our owns. We all make mistakes therefore we’d learn from it. Sierra didn’t mean to catfish him in the first place, she’s just the girl that wanted to know what it’s like to talk to a guy. maybe she should’ve told him in the first place that she wasn’t the girl that he thought he was talking to? Yes, but that’s her choice if she’s ready to tell him or not because she want him to know that it’s her personality and all she feels for him is real. I’m glad Jamey thought about it and realizes it that even though it wasn’t the girl he thought he was talking to, but he fell for her heart instead of just the looks. And Veronica, she did have a better ending for her and became a better friend and better version of herself that she came out to be instead of that girl she was in the beginning. Sierra and Veronica became friend at the end either way. I’m sorry that some of you don’t think of it that way but that the only opinion of what I thought about the movie and I loved it.

Every person who is saying sierra was a bad person, its true she was being a little selfish but most of you don't understand what it feels like to be picked on for your size...it can really mess you up through you life with always hating the way you look, she thought that the pretty girl was going to turn on her again and be mean like she always has so she acted out on it and i know it does not justify her selfishness but still.
