I used a white PVA glue similar to Elmers glue. For the papier-mâché, I used a wheat paste. I hope that helps. Let me know if you need more clarification.
When I search for "reed", "florists reed" or "rolls of reed" I'm getting results for rugs and floral arrangements. Is it possible that the 'reed' you are using has a different name? What else might it be called, and where can one find it in bulk?
Def want to try this with my students. Thanks
What is your recipe for the paper mache?

Is Reed the only material you can use? Would Bamboo work? Also will it still work if the reed is flat?
Thin and flexible bamboo would work. I think flat or round reed would work. Experiment a bit
