Not only rare but a very important series. I add my thanks. The Bauhaus succeeds as a vital architectural experiment. Gropius was a great artist/designer. This comes across in spite of the building's several conceptual and technical flaws.
"In the training of a talented architect, the quest is what counts the most. I believe we need to lead our future architects from observation to discovery; from discovery to the invention and finally to urge them to use their intuition in giving artistic shape to our environment." -Walter Gropius
I like how the Nazis and the Soviets both thought the Bauhaus was a sort of degenerate art, but ultimately left it exactly as it was, admitting its significance ha.
Thanks for sharing this! I've also had this rare collection for quite some time and was getting ready to share it online. However, I'm glad my search paid off to have found this here. Kudos!
My pleasure to share .... and Thank you for once for a positive comment. Lately I only have millenials complaining how the doc is in french or complaining the taste of music .. or millenials thinking that wrights buildings from 1910 where not up to the fire code of 2020 .. lol
awsm seris..classy...the music is awsm and all episode carries same theme...thnx a lot...i still have to wait 2 more yrs to be an architect n after watchin this series m fellin closer in being architect :)
The discordant music is the perfect sound for discordant architecture. However the presentation is so good that I begin to appreciate the design of what I at first considered a typical 20th century monstrosity.
I'm not an architect and not going to be one, but I really love this field, and I'm enjoying watching the development process of this art through the entire history.
Why do people complain about the music? its is clearly contemporary avantgarde compositions made by various artists within those times. I wonder how one may enjoy the paintings by Kandinsky, but disgust the works by Stefan Wolpe?
True .. Some people just need something to say. Watching an architecture documentary and in the end what they can argue is the taste of music .... Amazing humans, I think they are becoming dumb !!! I stopped replying to these individuals. But most impressive is making questions that are written and given in the documentary ... lol
hey there, csxlab! i would like to add spanish subtitles to this valuable architecture documentaries, if you don't mind it , could you activate the colaboration option?
These movies and the narrator is truly great. Some of the music tho, wtf? Why show something of great beauty just to ruin the experience with horrible sounds...
It's ironic that someone so interested in industrial practicality made his own workshops hellish to work in.... very much like those American industrial factories he so admired. Nonetheless he did manage to create an interesting and revolutionary building that tried new things. Unfortunately this style got copied basically everywhere but without what architectural flair that the original architect provided.

Great documentary since I'm studying this building for art history. Also the narrator sounds familiar.

Weird music
Alright, Sonam?
Now I am not a professional designer or architect, but am I the only one who finds Bauhaus to be very underwhelming and basically depressive?
