Strange Cars at the Drag Strip - Part 2

- Опубліковано 4 лип 2024
- Here is a video collection of some "Strange Cars" that I have seen over the years at the drag strip. I'm not making fun of any of these vehicles because I respect anyone that puts in the time to get a vehicle out to the track and race it. But sometimes you ask yourself "what were they thinking"? And of course the answer doesn't matter because obviously that is what the person is into and it is much better to have a variety of vehicles showing up at the track rather than everything the same.
Point in example is the featured Chevy Vega in this video has large wheel tubs and super skinny tires on it looking really weird. But the reality of it is the owner is doing double duty on this car and has large meats on it duirng the supper time at the cement drag strip to hook up and in the Winter is he using cheap studded tires to hook up in the Winter on the ice. It is awesome seeing people put there cars and passions to good use year round and I commend all racers for getting there cars out there at the track to put on a good show for the fans.
Well thank you for watching and sharing my passion with Muscle Cars and Drag Racing. That Vega it like a snowmobile. A narrow trac in the back and wide turning like skis.
You’re welcome lol. I seen that
That one rail you didn't know what it was, is a fiat topolino. Love your vids brother
Thank you for the "You're Welcome " moment 😂
You, sir, are an honorable UA-camr. Not many guys would go back and redeem an unintended clickbait scenario. You have my respect. Oh, and loved both videos.
Dear Tom
I used to live in Racine Wisconsin . I used to go the great lakes dragstrip in union Grove Wisconsin.
Watching your vids brings back memories.
I used to have a 1969 olds 442 w30 convertible with a 455 ci . It was dynoed out at 530hp.
I drove it to 12s on the strip but it was capable of Doing 9s. In 1995 I sold it for 30 grand. The same car now is worth $250k
I'm glad my videos can bring back good memories for you! I love being out at the track and catching some cool cars running. They sure are not in short supply of some awesome cars at Great Lakes.
Slow motion is a beautiful thing, and those red boots Holy hand grenade
So cool to see a pull from that Fiero. I appreciate you finding a pull and posting it here. Good work dude
Personally I'd like to see more Fieros as cheap rally cars.
Thanks for a great video and especially the “you’re welcome” part! Lol. Very very nice! Lol. Bouncy bounce! Lol
Love the illusion of that Econo pickup going sideways in the far lane.
I noticed that as well. I thought it started breaking in the left rear, but it was just an illusion.
Loved that little "Drag-Girl" interlude. Nice touch!!
Your editing is spot on. Your videos are setting the example of how it should be done. Greatly enjoyed this. Shared with many.
Thank you so much for the kind words. I appreciate it!
@@tomeighty I'm going to assume that the Vega at one time had drag tires that where wide enough to fill the fenders .
PS just saw the part of the video confirming my assumption . It might have been a better idea to run duals on the snow or some larger truck snow tires with the studs added .
Laughed out loud at 12:45! Hilarious!😆😆
Props to the womanin the red heel boots. Running on a drag strip better than most guys in shoes
Thanks for the slo-mo !!!!
Ice drags are awesome! 👍
Thanks Tom. I loved the Roadkill episode where the guys took the El Camino up to Merrill and won a trophy.
Thanks for watching Dan. And yes I really liked it when they came to the ice races, it was the biggest crowd I have ever seen there when the word got out they were coming. Good times... gives you something to look forward to in the Winters around here.
@@tomeighty - I am in Central CA but I have a nephew from here who married a girl and moved back to HER hometown in the Cloquet MN area. I honestly don’t know how he did it! We out here simply are not mentally equipped to handle cold like you get back there.
12:44 dang look at that motor and those huge tires awesome car
Your slow motion camera work is iconic
My gosh, drag racing in the snow must be the wildest thing I've ever seen people do in cars! Thanks for the great videos.
12:40 salute, well done sir.
That's what it looked like in real life when I saw it. ha ha...
You almost expect to hear the late great Dave McClellan calling these races
10:32 Looks like they forgot to tighten the wheelie bar up...things bouncing all the way down the track..
Thankyou for posting. Love watching from New Zealand.
Thanks for watching Troy!
Very nicely put together video and very entertaining as well. Thanks for posting this.
Thank you! I appreciate that.
That Vega has enough space to run duals with those tubs. 🤣
Another Wisconsin boy? Cool! Haven't been to great lakes since I raced there back in the 90's...
Retuning the engine for the cold winter air must be quite the eye opener!
Running alcohol and nitro with gas in the summer was fun, but I don't know if I have a set of jets to run WOT in the winter!
Love the video, man! Can't wait to see more and can't wait to see you hit 1 mil 👍🤙
Thank you, I appreciate it!
4:01 gotta love it when they loap and gurgle
No matter what car or style you guys run out there inWiconsin it does look like you all are having fun and that’s the best part i do personally really love the old Nostalgia like Dragsters
Thanks buddy, and yes I have noticed that the spectators and racers really enjoy the 4 races they put on in January each year. It gives you something to get excited about in the long Winter time here. And it does get really interesting when there is a snow storm going on during the races, you have to fight to keep the snow off the cars and windshields before lining up. ha ha
Was not expecting that mid 9 from the '32-'33 Chevy at 10:30, they have that suspension DIALED! Darn thing'd probably hook up in a sandbox if you kept the revs lower, lol.
Great video. Thanks!
Remarkable! No need for a burnout!
great video I sure do miss great Lakes dragstrip
those econolines are really cool, thats good mpg too. and that jeepster is awesome, i never heard of them or seen one until now
Hey Tom thanks for your strange cars video😀I really like to see your videos,👍🏽
Haha that Vega looks like one of our Aussie Burnout Cars!!! Awesome vid mate!
Great video dude i used to run a a rail job bracket racing man that was the best job ever !
Paused at 5 secs. Bet its merrill wisconsin ice drags. You should see it in person. Film does it NO justice
You get a gold star just for having the thumbnail as part of your video... a new subscription... a thumbs up.. and great video..
Thanks for sharing..
Thanks buddy, I appreciate it. I'm out on the Bonneville Salt Flats right now for Speed Week and I'm keeping my eye open for some more Strange Cars to make another video 👍
Great video as usual. loved the sol-mo.
Ha ha... did it just for you!
You gotta love nostalgia drags at The Grove.....
OK, @12:43, awesome job! She was dressed like that to be noticed!
For sure, she really caught my eye as you could see I hardly kept the camera focused on the car. ha ha
Thank you for posting this great video
Thank you so much for watching, glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for the great content!
Love old school like mr 4 speed and grumpy style cars and history and when starting there like nothing until switch and horse power comes alive in those blower motors. Nice job 👍 with video
You’ve got a new subscriber. You certainly do have some unique vehicles over the pond. Cheers for the entertainment from the UK.
Awesome, thank you for subscribing and I'm glad you enjoyed the strange cars. Lots more to come! Tomorrow I'm headed out on a 21 hour drive to the Bonneville Salt Flats (in Utah) to films some land speed racing out there. Can't wait, it's one of my favorite races/events to goto each year. Have a good one! Tom
@@tomeighty Cool Tom. I’ve heard of Bonneville Salt Flats since I was a kid. I associated it with the triumph motorbike of my Dads era. But once you have seen the photo of the guy lay on his front on a motorbike you don’t forget. I used to buy Hot Rod magazine as a schoolboy. It’s not until getting online 10 years back that I have been able to watch them. I love the design of the old American cars . But seeing them race is something else. I like the Gassers and find the top fuel fascinating. Thanks for the reply and I look forward to your video of the Salt Flats. Roadkill left a void that your filling.
Big respect from Northern England.
@@tomeighty Jesus, just read your comment again. 21 hours drive wow. That’s dedicated.
That Jeepster is slick
thx for sharing
Fantastic way to clean your chassis ice blast the hell out of it and go racing I love it
Talk about right place right time a friend that was always racing had a set of heads for me to pick up after work. When I got there he said "you got a couple of hours"? " A friend passed awhile (another racer) & his son only wanted 2 novas & 3 build engines. We could have what was left". It had been 6 yrs or so and we loaded 3 trucks & 2 trailers with everything u can think of the last thing we got & handled so delicately was one of the dragster like from More American Grafitti that was hanging from the ceiling. The parts that we gave away are to much to think of,this is 20+ years ago. He worked on that car and got it going with a 327 that was built from parts from that shop. He made 1 pass in it & never ran it again he said sitting with the rearend right between uour legs was to much because he seen a rearend fly apart b4. I dont know what happened to the car I lost contact them about 2 yrs ago seen were he had died he wasn't even 50. I would bet anything that car & his other are still in his garage his parents live next door.
That was fun
Forget the speedracer.....That blue big block tudor! Goregous!!!!
Hahaha! I see you stumbled and faltered at something really strange bouncing along the track @ 12:44 partner. That would probably keep somebody warm during the cold winter nights...lol. You gotta keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the camera you lil rascal!
Overall, nice video though. Keep up the good work. RS, Maj Ret, Canada...
Thanks buddy!
That Warbird was reminiscent of the cars like the Fiat Topolino bodied rail that ran after it, so cool! Definitely subbed, I'd rather watch this than today's professional level drag racing any day of the week, they're nothing but commercial crap.
Cool. I moved to Arizona from Michigan and like the sun and warmer weather, while still being able to go snowboarding. In fact, we boarded at snowbowl (Flagstaff) one day and the next rode mountain bikes in Sedona. Btw I sold my 1963 Nova ss before moving. 11.60@115 quarter mile.
That top fuel definitely makes quite the difference in these engines. Gotta love that slight stutter they get
Very cool
Have subscribed, the last one i think is a Fiat Topolini body. Not sure on correct spelling, were quite common in that era of drag racing
Man with that super cold air I bet each car is make 40hp more than in standard temperatures
Great video, the body on the dragster at about 12:20 is a Fiat Topolino.
now this is America! the America we all love 👍
Looks Ilike the union Grove Wisconsin race track!!!! Great content
Yes it is. Glad you liked it!
Raced that track in early 90s dad n mom raced there in 60s years of fun. At that track !!!
This video is crushing it
Ide like a nice video all about. That fiero. But I wanna bring g back the gasser lol. Ice racing looks like so much fun
Enjoyed!!!! 👍👍👍👍
Thanks you!
@@tomeighty 👍👍
Theoretically, that shortened rear end in the Vega should transfer more horsepower to the tires than a full sized rear end.
Nice variety man thanks sir
Thanks for watching buddy 👍 Glad you liked it.
The silver car at 9:50 looks like a Crosley-based Almquist Sabre
100k subs awesome!! U have great content.
Thank you buddy!
Here in the UK in the 60s there was a Mini pickup up with a huge Hemi V8 in the back, it was called Hemini.
I have a Vega like that but all stock it might not be fast, but it would always catch people's attention when I took it out.
Keep your heaters boys. It gets cold
Real Nice
This is why your great with video covering.
Thank you, I appreciate it!
Cool 😎
I grew up in Milwaukee in the 60's and went to Great Lakes Dragway.
If you put big tires on that Vega the friction would bring it to a stop.
KOOL !
That late 60's Vette thing....takes it easy, 11 Second pass at over 120 mph .....easy😂🤣😂
When that nitro hits 👋👋💨💨
Great video!!
Thank you! I'm working on another one right now that should be out this weekend.
Man, can you imagine that vega with a dually set up of those same rear tires on the ice
Some great cars that you showed. On the last pair I was thinking how hard it would be for them to back up to the starting line again have to warming the tires. You're wearing a helmet you can't really turn around look anyway and there's no mirrors. Then I noticed the ground guy running out to help the driver in the right lane. Apparently I wasn't the only one that noticed. She looked about as fast as the driver and a left lane! Then 182 miles per hour and under 8 seconds! I've gone 145 and my buddy took it to 160 the same truck. Simply said it's just crazy fast and to do it in a quarter of a mile.
I like your videos
Thank you Noah!
The Dragster with the Gold paint Jacked up in the rear as you said is a Fiat 500 topolino 1940 , in the 50s and the 60s they were very popular in the day for Drag cars
Great job as always Tom.
Thanks buddy, hope your knee is doing better soon. Right now I'm on my way to Utah to shoot video at the Bonneville Salt Flats for Speed Week. It is my 2nd favorite event to goto (#1 is Byron Wheelstand). So I am really excited!
@@tomeighty That's great. Your channel is great. I'd love to go out there sometime myself. Take care my friend.
@@dragindart Thanks buddy. I've never traveled and had an event not work out for me but this might be my first one, it got rained out today and they also canceled tomorrows racing as well because too much standing water yet. I might have to stay longer than expected, but that's ok. Also when they do run you can watch it on a live stream if you want. lsrlive.com/ Take care buddy.
Groovy
That Vega reminds me of my old 71.
The coupe is a Fiat Topolino. Real popular back in the day.
Yeah, I always liked the look of the Topolino drag cars. I also liked the ‘41 Willys cars.
Thank you, I will have to look that up.
Just some trivia on the Ford Econoline trucks, they were so front heavy, the factory added 165 lb of weight behind the rear bumper to stop the back end from bouncing around.
I read about that, the rear wheels would lose contact with the pavement under hard braking so the added weight to "Fix" the problem. Ha ha.
Yo where did you get your mic is perfect 🤩
Been a t bird fn when i needed a car n fell in luv
VEGA's RULE!!!
You are getting a thumbs up for no other reason than the slo mo on the ta tas.
Ha ha... thanks! Glad you liked it 👍
@@tomeighty Who was the woman that was at all the races staging a car. Pam? She had her own following.
I love this BUG
awesome video and i think the white one on the 9:50 it might be Shelby Cobra :) [if wrong, correct me please ^^]
The early years of drag racing is when the cars were pretty cool lookin not like today were their pretty much 300 mph billboards
Amen, I stopped going to national events in the mid '90s and stuck to test and tunes, sportsman and nostalgia races. Same with nearly every sport now, they've strayed way too far from the grass roots.
LOOKS FUN TO FIGHT TRACTION
Is this partially filmed at Great Lakes speedway?
Yes for sure. I live in Wisconsin so that is one of my local tracks.
Loved the rest tho
