Love oatmeal for backpacking breakfast. I make my own packets using vacuum bags. Put in oatmeal, a small packet of trail mix (nuts and dried fruit) and a little sugar and cinnamon.
I love my solo hammock trips. But in winter, the short cold Midwestern days just kill me. That's a lot of hours in camp in the dark. Still, I'm going to try to get out this year. And I have that GSI mug--and In that color! Love it.
Love sleeping in my Hammock too and having sound of running water to lull you to sleep…..perfect ! Going solo whether I’m camping or out fishing in my kayak is definitely a great time for personal reflection.
Nicely done ! Love solo outings, canoe camping, backpacking. Great time to unwind ! Some people are afraid of solo outings. They will only go if they are with someone. I believe it’s because of a lack of know how to, and they are honestly afraid of the dark. Cheers !
Solo is just more relaxing- you’re only responsible for yourself and allows flexibility to do whatever you want 😊. Agree about the time change … these winter hours are terrible! 😴.
Could not agree with you more. When I got back into the outdoors I dropped over 100 pounds, my mind became so focused and I was such a peaceful person..... Then over two years ago I broke my back at work. Put back on some of the weight, my health and mental state have taken a turn. Good news is I will be having work done on my back early this year and my doctor assures me , if all goes right, I'll be back at it very soon......I'm so ready for this. Keep on keeping on bro.
Maple brown sugar or apples and cinnamon are my go-to. I really don't eat a lot of breakfast on trail, though much anymore. A couple cups of coffee, and I'm good to go until 10 or so if I am up at dawn.
I agree on the time change BIG TIME. Our government can't even accomplish something that simple, even though we ALL want it. Love my solo trips too. Lastly, I have to set an alarm in my hammock.
The solitude, the sounds of nature, bubbling stream. Excellent times. I like the NesCafe too, but I prefer the Classico Dark Roast and if I can find them the espresso roast. Oatmeal - two packs Maple Brown Sugar mixed with an Apple Cinnamon On cold nights, try an Alpine Spiced Hot Apple Cider before bed. Good by itself, or especially nice if you make it a toddy. If you don't want to bother with a campfire or in an area where a campfire is not ideal, a UCO candle lantern is really nice in the evening to provide some fire light. I prefer the mini-lantern that takes inexpensive tea light candles.
Doc i’ve had plenty of people suggest the apple cinnamon. But you’re the first one I’ve heard of mixing the brown sugar and apple cinnamon together. I think you’re on to something. Definitely gonna try that out.
I slept next to babbling mountain stream once. It was great ambiance for a good night sleep. Also I prefer solo backpacking. It is exciting, scary and relaxing.
Awesome solo by the stream. The best thing about solo is no noise and you can really become one with nature and see things you may not see otherwise. I like maple oatmeal too. The gsi mug is awesome
@@BackpackingWithJason miss you lots and I just saw that I won't be able to get to the gorge on the Columbus day weekend this Oct but a weekend after would work. Not sure if we can still change it
I parked at Corner Ridge and walked a couple miles down before I get to the bottom and started going off trail there. I go to the creek and try and find something around there. If you go to the bottom of the hill there’s a lot of campsites but I wanted to go make my own campsite before I got to the bottom. That creek is so beautiful
It’s been several years since I’ve camped solo. I used to do it a lot. I’m an introvert so getting away from people is an essential part of who I am. I still hike solo a lot and thoroughly enjoy it. Nothing beats hanging my hammock beside a stream. Brown sugar cinnamon oatmeal the next morning sure warms the body up after a cool night! Thanks Jason. I’m going to have to start solo backpacking again!
@@papawinthewoodsI sure hope one day I can do some hiking with you. My buddy Shawn loves your channel and says you’re the king of Big South Fork. I love your channel too
I hate the time change, too. What a rotten way to provide us all with seasonal depression. Beautiful camping spot! I like apples & cinnamon oatmeal. Absolutely 💯 agree with your ending message! There's something wild and wonderful and freeing about solo backpacking! 😃💚👊
Apple cinnamon. Try that coffee with 2 packets of hot chocolate. Makes a great Mocha. Might need a bigger mug though.
I will definitely try that out. I have a bigger mug. That sounds great
Love solo backpacking! Especially by running water.
Oatmeal will have to be apple cinnamon tho
Lots of votes for Apple Cinnamon 😁👊🏻
Love oatmeal for backpacking breakfast. I make my own packets using vacuum bags. Put in oatmeal, a small packet of trail mix (nuts and dried fruit) and a little sugar and cinnamon.
That sounds delicious and better than what I had.
I’m not a fan of the early darkness either. It is tough when solo when you want a fire. So much work.
I wish they would never change the time. If they didn’t it would get dark around 6:30-7 in Kentucky. I hate when it’s 5:30 and it’s already dark lol
I love doing solos. I don’t get to that often anymore because of my co dependent friend Carlson LOL. Great times man in the woods cuz
😂😂😂 Carlson the thumbnail stealer can handle one trip without you…… maybe 🤔. Thanks cuz

That GSI mug is so good. A lot of cutting wood and sitting around the campfire in these wintertime nights. Have a good day my friend
Love sleeping in my Hammock too and having sound of running water to lull you to sleep…..perfect ! Going solo whether I’m camping or out fishing in my kayak is definitely a great time for personal reflection.
There’s something special on those solo trips. Time to just be alone with nature
You got me thinking. I can't remember off hand the last time I've solo backpacked 😅
When it comes to oatmeal, I'm a fan of Kodiak brand!
You are well due for a quick solo trip. It’s really good for you 😁👊🏻
I’ve been getting comments on Kodiak. I’m going to have to try it out
Because solo backpacking is awesome! Thats why!!
Nature baby!!!
You are so correct 😁👊🏻
Nature Baby 😂
Exactly! I love the solitude and the sounds of nature.

I agree with you 100 percent. If they could get over there fear of the dark and animals they could enjoy the peacefulness of solo backpacking

A man alone with his thoughts. Love the silence and the solitude. Best therapy.
Definitely the best therapy.
So nicely elaborated man! Another gorgeous and relaxing episode!
Thank you my friend.

😂😂😂😂😂😂 that’s hilarious 😂

Well said about solo backpacking 😊👍🏻
Awesome solo trip especially with how peaceful and quiet it was. Thanks for sharing and the tip on the coffee…definitely checking those out.
Thank you. I think some people miss out on the joy of solo backpacking. I really love that instant coffee
I love a nice solo trip. I'll be in The Gorge next week with a couple friends. Going to be a Winter wonderland I hope. Thanks for taking us along!
It’s definitely going to be a winter wonderland. Have fun my friend
Beauty camping spot!! Super peaceful!! J & C
Thank you guys. I hope you two are doing great. Happy New Year 😁

I like oatmeal too. I usually go for Kodiak oatmeal with protein or Purely Elizabeth oatmeal with Flaxseed. Not as sugary as other brands.
Thanks for the tip. I’m going to try them out

I usually go just me and my two dogs, so peaceful
Having your fur babies on the trail is so nice 😁. I’m a huge dog fan
Love a good campfire on a cold night! Love maple and brown sugar oatmeal too.
Oatmeal is so good on those cold mornings in the woods 😁

I do love a nice solo trip. Apple and cinnamon oatmeal and a cup of Black rifle coffee company vanilla bomb coffee.
