For someone driving a C220d, which by my standard has adequate power, saying that 245 hp is enough to haul you around town seems like a bit of an understatement. 6 secs to 100 km/h is more than "fast enough" in my book!
Excellent review! This 10th generation E-Class is definitely a big upgrade from its previous model, obviously the 2.0 turbo petrol engine is a bit gutless to pull such a heavy car.
I hadn't seen this reviewer before yet this dude is very good. The only suggestion I would make is to cover some of the everyday aspects of the car such as internal storage, visibility out of the cabin (very important in these days of severely sloping rooflines) and the cars sound system.
+Orientalmuffin - Thanks for the feedback. This was only a quick first look at the car and we will absolutely go through the E-Class in full detail when we get Australian spec cars on local soil.
He is 6' 3'', and the front seat is in his driwing position, so that's two guys, measuring 6' 3'' in height, sitting one behind another... And he still has a little bit of legroom back there... That's pretty impresive.
+Brian Mok - totally agree Brian. We had a few technical glitches while filming and only a short window of time. When the car arrives in Australia we will produce more detailed content to demonstrate these driving systems.
fantastic review CA...speed signs on trucks clever point. Has there been any rattles or sqeaks on any of these new Mercedes-Benz like the A class so far?
Lack of toe room for the rear occupants seems to be a common problem these days - I'm looking around for an alternative to the Holden Caprice, and have noticed this problem with the Infiniti Q70 and the Lexus ES. On the other hand, the Hyundai Genesis and the new Skoda Superb do not have this problem.
driving a 2012 c250 cgi.love it to bits.i never buy new.got mine in 2015 and it had only got 38,000 miles.believe me it was still like a new car.by the way got the avangard.i love the new look on this e class.love yor review.seems to me in about 2018 this will be my replacement. it looks gorgeous.what i wonder would be the best petrol economy engine,or will the new diesels be less noisy?
hi, great review. one question, can all or most features be activated by voice command? I find that approach to be the safest and fastest method to operating anything that requires you to take your eyes off the road even for a split second!
i own a 2008 E class. this is the natural decendant to that. the current e class from 2010 onwards was way too boxy with a pontoon like design..bad direction... now it feels back in place....
So you would say that the new 2017 BMW i435 is much better in the steer wheel than this new e class Mercedes ?? Referring to what you said on your video while talking about the steering wheel though.
+TheMidnightNarwhal I completely agree. The only thing that really impresses me with the new E-Class is the reduced weight. It's a lot lighter, which should improve the handling quite a bit. We have a video done on it. Please help us grow the channel by joining our community.
+Mika Hakinen - in many markets, you can get a 'basic' version of the E-Class with standard instrument display, but all Australian cars get the twin-screens.
I dont like the version with the big star in the front and would prefer the classic style with the emblem on the bonnet. But fortunately you can choose between the designs styles at the order.
Mercedes has made a giant leap in recent years. Design and technology are absolutely top. Mercedes came to me never in question but now. Criticism of the Designing - looks like its predecessor, or like a small S-class I can not understand really. I just want a Mercedes, which also looks like one and that as good as possible.
that care is beautiful. Yes, I think i looks to similiar to the c and S classe... but that doesn't mean that it is an ugly car. frankly, ths Mercerdies ( as all Mercedes) will still look good 5 years from now..
As a W124 driver, I'm rather curious of this new W213. I understand it is inevitable to incorporate more and more technologies into a car, but it simply overwhelming & overcomplicated. Also in many cases unnecessary. & I'm Gen Y. At this rate in the near future you can pretty much forget about working on your own car. Personally I much prefer simple, well & over engineered vehicle.
+yellow6ird - as a Mercedes driver, you will feel immediately at home. Yes there is a huge amount of new tech, but it all feels like very familiar 'Benz'. Car is in Aus in mid 2016 - go and take a look when they arrive. JW
'Highest technology'? The Lexus ls 430 had this stuff - and more - in 2001. (Except the silly cabin colour lighting, which nobody will use after the first week of buyer euphoria.)
+Kamadev888 The 2001 LS had configurable dual screens, could change lanes by itself, adaptive LED headlamps, accident-hearing damage protection, change its speed based on speed signs and a 9 speed gearbox? Wow.
no... but do you want a car that changes lanes by itself? Or do you want a car that is top luxury and top quality, that will last decades and over a million miles? The lexus is QUALITY; the merc is not. While the mercs that had all-electric windows were few and far between until 2002, the LS 2001 had heated seats, massage seats, all electric windows, electronic seats, navigation, rotating air blow vents, rising chassis, sport suspension...
lol!!! Yea I agree 6 foot is a pretty standard height however there is a big different between 6 foot and 6'3. especially if you convert into centimeters
So the current model has a 540L boot? I'm very surprised to hear that. Certainly, that's what the local (Au) specs say, in the brochure. That means it's bigger than the Caprice boot, which is absolutely enormous. I'll have to go and have a look at one. However, I've noticed something a bit suspicious. Checking the North American specs at edmunds.com, the capacity is 15.9 cu ft. I'm not going to *directly* convert this to litres, because it's almost always much smaller than the Australian specification. (presumably due to difference measuring standards) But, what I WILL do is compare it to the Hyundai Genesis, which is listed at 15.3 cu ft. So, using the American specs, the E-class is only 4% larger than a Genesis, and the Genesis is not considered to be a large boot. (at least, not in my circles - I'm a limo driver). Applying a 4% increase to the Australian specification for the Genesis (which is 493L), yields only 512L. I wonder who has the most meaningful boot measuring techniques - the U.S, or Australia?
+Greg Sullivan The plot thickens further. Checking the actual E-Class brochures, the current model is actually spec'd at 12.9 cu ft. I had to go back to the 2014 brochure before I could find a spec that matches Edmunds (15.9 cu ft) I checked the U.S site for the Hyundai Genesis, and it does match Edmunds: 15.3 cu ft. For the time being, I'm going to take the Aussie spec for the E-class with a HUGE grain of salt! (however, even if the E-Class is actually smaller than the Genesis, at least the seats can be folded down. Can't do that with the Genesis) It'll be interesting to see what the 2017 E-Class boot spec is. Note: previous reply heavily edited - I thought the 2016 brochure was for the latest/newest model, but of course it's not.
+Greg Sullivan Did some more Googling - found a post by someone who actually asked Mercedes about the apparent reduction in boot capacity between 2014 and 2015 - they said that there was no reduction - the cars are identical. The difference is the result of using a different measuring standard. It's incredible that a whopping 19% reduction in capacity can result just by changing measuring standard!
+Greg Sullivan Just to highlight the vast discrepancy between the U.S and Australian specs - the current U.S spec is 12.9 cu ft = 365L. The current Aussie spec is 540L. I find that absolutely astonishing. FWIW, this paper looks promising: papers.sae.org/2011-01-0781/ "Quantifying Enclosed Space and Cargo Volume". Quoting: "The customer benefits from a common measuring and reporting system that would readily allow them to more accurately compare the cargo volumes of different manufacturers' vehicles." Of course, that will never happen. ;^)
+CarAdvice.com.au beautiful scenery! about the car, if it were the C class it would be probably okay but the E class must have enough room in the back seat, at the back it should be more S class-like.
I want the automakers to supply an app that allows the user to tailor the instrument cluster. For instance, the progressive mode with a combination nav and a rev counter with a digital speedometer annoys the hell out me. I don't need a rev counter in an automatic car and I hate digital speedometers. All I need is a needle gauge for speed and the nav insert. It would be simple to allow the owner to design his own gauge cluster. I am so picky about this that I will walk away from a vehicle with digital a speedometer and if Mercedes offers a usable screen with a small nav insert, that I can only get in combination with a digital speedometer, I will have to take my money elsewhere. The car industry seems the be behind the curve when it comes to user tech. The car is full of tech, but it is like the automakers don't realise the potential of that technology and how easy it is to adapt to preferences. Look at the desktop of any pc user. They are wildly different. Which icon or tiles and how they are arranged varies greatly from user to user. At least open the source code to third party vendors and makes different designs and clusters downloadable from a Mercedes app store. Basic skin design.
+dn bn - the E-Class has a couple of 4-cyl (petrol and diesel) and 6-cyl (petrol and diesel) options from launch. The hybrid and V8 AMG will follow too.
I don't like it. They're also becoming too feminine. Older Mercs were sophisticated in style, but they had presence. This new generation looks too unassertive.
Are you really 6ft3in (barefoot)? You look more in the 6ft / 6ft1in region... Well, if you are then the new E Class is a lot more spacious than the previous generation!
So some clown could theoretically make a sign that reads the equiv of 150km/h and the MB would notice this and increase the speed accordingly? This car is a pranksters dream.
+pabzy2 - not quite. You need to be on cruise control using the drive pilot system. The system drops speed automatically but won't increase it past your maximum.
I went from a BMW 3 series to a 2017 E300. The 3 series drove and handled better. My E300 was peppered with problems. Had to bring it in the shop over 25 times in the first few months. Ridiculous! I bought a car do drive, not to bring it into the shop twice a week for several months! They put me in another E300 (this time a package with heads up display and massaging seats, etc.). First few months, in the shop over 6 times, and Mercedes initially refused to fix the creaking in my door when it went over bumpy roads because they could not duplicate it! Then they were able to duplicate it but wouldn't fix it because it wasn't "continuous" enough! Screw Mercedes! What a POS product they produce! I took a huge loss on the trade in for a BMW. It's night and day! The BMW drives and handles great and has no rattles. It nearly glides everywhere I go. But I paid the price to experience how bad Mercedes is! I will NEVER buy a Mercedes again!
+Jānis Liepiņš - we saw higher on the short test-drive of the 220d. Will wait until we can drive the car locally, on a longer test, for proper fuel consumption judgement.
Any modern Mercedes owners including myself, knows all of these tech feature will malfunction after few years and will cost fortune to fix it. What modern Mercedes owners really want is more simple cars with less parts to spend money fixing
+Shitty Bill I don't care how much it cost, you get for what you pay, I have enough money to buy and own E-Class, and my previous car S-Class, therefore I'll buy reliable, stylish, and powerful GS450h for my next car, rather than go for cheaper option, it's not the engine power I want, what I want is the overall balance, the finesse. enough said.
+INUMIMI28 you do realize that the lexus gs sedan has the same tech as the e class right? there's only a few things it doesn't have like the earing protection, automatic steering, and the cruise control reading the signs. otherwise it has most of the same tech the e class has
For someone driving a C220d, which by my standard has adequate power, saying that 245 hp is enough to haul you around town seems like a bit of an understatement. 6 secs to 100 km/h is more than "fast enough" in my book!
Video car reviews are getting better and better (nothing beats your written reviews :P ). Keep up the good work!
+Simon Vuu - thanks Simon
This car and Volvo S90 is really good.
I love your reviews. Thorough and scrutinising
The best looking 4 door sedan ever
Why do you keep calling it an 'A' class??
+JC Cole - Because Australia.
haha I heard 'A class' every time as well
+CarAdvice.com.au you mean Eustrelie
I heard A Class too,
may be its Auszieee accent, all of them said power "pawerr"
Good review. Very good speaker and reviewer. Good car, good driver, good information. Just as it should be a car review
1:43 James closes the boot of the car
1:46 Boot is still open
+Silver :) - Magic!
You missed the bit where I walk to the right side of the car but end up sitting on the left side.
That was also magic.
JW
+CarAdvice.com.au You can always move to the left side if you go in by the right door.
Apart from the car, his eyes are BEAUTIFUL!
Um.... thanks? JW
Excellent review! This 10th generation E-Class is definitely a big upgrade from its previous model, obviously the 2.0 turbo petrol engine is a bit gutless to pull such a heavy car.
6 seconds to 100km/h? seems to work alright
0-60 in 5.8 in the 350 is a good speed they have faster models as well. e550 and e63 amg and i believe they will have an e43 amg as well
One of the best CarAdvice reviews yet!
+subi924 Thanks, James! I mean subi924!
Fair call - thanks for the reply and well done with the review
+Orientalmuffin - thank you and thank you for watching!

Good video! Would've liked to see a forward camera view of the auto lane change
+Brian Mok - totally agree Brian. We had a few technical glitches while filming and only a short window of time. When the car arrives in Australia we will produce more detailed content to demonstrate these driving systems.
fantastic review CA...speed signs on trucks clever point. Has there been any rattles or sqeaks on any of these new Mercedes-Benz like the A class so far?
its a great looking car, the tech aspect is awesome. i can't help but yearn for a real key, real gauges, a manual gearbox and NA engine though.
+John Snow (Ivanflo) buy an old used one if that's what you're after
I like the lack of key but yeah screens suck
Well made video, truly practical, keep on the good work

Very good review, I like this presenter!

Great review ...
this is my dream car I love this car ,my goal is to have this car for Christmas or the new year 2017 i think I'll take this for my new year ....
Did you get it?
hi, great review.
one question, can all or most features be activated by voice command? I find that approach to be the safest and fastest method to operating anything that requires you to take your eyes off the road even for a split second!
+True Leadership - yes there is an option of voice control for the majority of the Mercedes systems.
Does the new E-class models come standard with fog lights? From viewing every model; I see nothing but a black plastic cover at the Bottom.
260hp = adequate for going round town?
very informative review
+wp carrera - Thanks!
i might change from bmw...i am tired of that hard stressful crap, i need something comfortable and relaxing,,,
i own a 2008 E class. this is the natural decendant to that. the current e class from 2010 onwards was way too boxy with a pontoon like design..bad direction... now it feels back in place....
mikesh shah you’re e class was the most beautiful . Front end is just perfect
Great review....what do you think of the new a4 interior? It looks like a spaceship at night .
So you would say that the new 2017 BMW i435 is much better in the steer wheel than this new e class Mercedes ?? Referring to what you said on your video while talking about the steering wheel though.
I don't like the new roundy looks of the mercs like the C and E. I loved the old squarish aggresive looks.
***** Right. But I would take a M4 over the new C63 tho.
100% Agree
+TheMidnightNarwhal I completely agree. The only thing that really impresses me with the new E-Class is the reduced weight. It's a lot lighter, which should improve the handling quite a bit. We have a video done on it. Please help us grow the channel by joining our community.
Absolutely right man
+TheMidnightNarwhal how do u think the new 5 series is going to look like then? can't be much worse than this new e class.
For a taxi driver which model is better e class E220d diesel or E300 hybrid ?
omfg, amazed by the level of technology they have nowadays.
Brb buying an A-class after this review.
why ?
+Dex Won cuz he can't afford an e-class.
You clearly did not get the joke, his accent sounds like he's saying A class not E. Dumbfuck, I already drive a CLS 63 AMG
Which year? I have CLS 63 2016 AMG too
+Rhyme905 Oh because I'm Australian and it didn't sound like he said a class to me but did you finance or buy with cash and what year.
Good review, good car, but I would like to see normal analog dials, not that screen.
How about comparing it to Volvo S90? I am hesitating between these two.
+BokiXI - when both cars are available locally in Australia, we'll do just that!
When you configure it the only interior option is black. Wtf.
How to remote Mercedes Benz E class 2016 with mobile (how to connect)?

I will buy like this car soon inshalha
Halim Halimi in Shaa Allah brother
How much will it cost in Australia
+Mark Song - nothing confirmed yet, but should start around $85k
Mercedes is moving backwards in terms of exterior design. The rear looks just like a CL coupe from 2008. Nice review regardless.
great review ... like and sub !
Brown noise? I read "pink noise" on mbusa
i think u forgot which class are u reviewing......
Cool, all I need now is a speed sign with a 200 on it and walk casually by the road XD and some mercedes will accelerate.

+No Way - Haha, yes. It was the last day of a long trip and sleep had been at a minimum. Thanks for caring though - JW
+CarAdvice.com.au all good mate. no hard feelings.
btw, great review. 👍
That last bit of advice seems contradicting.
easy car to drive, that is all you need in a car.
Chinese version of 2016 E Class is so different from this version!! Even the shape of back doors are totally different!!
China gets a LWB version - exclusive to that market.
Thanks! But do you know why?

+CarAdvice.com.au Will do so when the couple version arrive. Which's gonna be awhile. Thanks for replying. Keep up the great jobs you guys are doing.
I did not realize Australia uses imperial for human height
+R0Y4L KN1GHT - that, wheels and Subway sandwiches are the last remaining champions of imperial measurement in Aus.
nice review.. I like the interior very much but the exterior is just terrible.. :/ I think the 2014 Facelift model has the best exterior..
+Height Zyzz Why not get benz to customize and make you a new special car with 2014 exterior and 2016 interior?
why does title say my 2017 e class????
+Tamer888 - MY = Model Year. In North America this is the MY17 car despite being a 2016-built car.
小休葛蘭介紹的不錯

+0wninguplz - 6-foot is a pretty standard height (slightly above average though) but a good benchmark to use for space.
+Skiballas the Great - Hahaha
lol!!! Yea I agree 6 foot is a pretty standard height however there is a big different between 6 foot and 6'3. especially if you convert into centimeters
its 5'8'' here in the us and lmao at width
Literally just a bigger C class. Mercedes is basically making the same car in different sizes
I'd rather get this
Yea theyre following the trend that's long existed in BMW and Audi
time to upgrade my 2011 e250

It is a problem.with the Booth , 2 person with the same car same problem .
11.9 litres for a i4? my 10+ year old V8 lexus sc430 does that much.
A class A class A class A class. That's Eee dude.
+RED1Carbon - trust me, when an Australian says 'A', you'll know about it.
ничего не понял!, но обзор хороший!
Nice
Luxury cars shouldnt have 4 cylinder engines in my opinion, at least give it 5! Or a smaller capacity 6 cylinder
+dn bn - the E-Class has a couple of 4-cyl (petrol and diesel) and 6-cyl (petrol and diesel) options from launch. The hybrid and V8 AMG will follow too.
Mercedes is now basing every car off the s class but changing sizes ..C,E,S all look the same
small medium large extra large. comes in all sizes.
I don't like it. They're also becoming too feminine. Older Mercs were sophisticated in style, but they had presence. This new generation looks too unassertive.
EvilBonesMan_666 I guess things change.
jjrimz99 The 2015 model looked more aggressive.
Looks are allready dated cause off the c and s. Plus the old one with the sharp double headlights looked better and still looks modern now
+Jeffrey Gryson - Looks better in the metal
12:05 Qashqai spotted!
Are you really 6ft3in (barefoot)? You look more in the 6ft / 6ft1in region... Well, if you are then the new E Class is a lot more spacious than the previous generation!
+João Soares - I am 193 cm tall. 6-foot, 3-inches. JW
Not the best looking car. Autonomous driving on cruise control works really well if you ever get out of traffic jams in Melbourne.
Why do they call it E300 when it only has a ridiculous 4 cylinder engine? It should be called the E200, which is what it actually is.
Down sides....2.0 litre 4 cylinder engine. no room for people sitting in the back. Wish they put a v6 in it.
Rear legroom ? Not for me.
I work for Mercedes-Benz and we have someone who is 6'2 and he sid he was very comfortable in the back seat
It's good, he is 6'3 by the way so if you're not that tall or don't have family/friemds that tall it's roomy.
in china there is e300L which makes the car longer to help rear legroom as chinese buyer love legroom the most #fact
Portugal, estrada da Rainha, Sintra
seems like elder bro of c class and younger brother of s class
So some clown could theoretically make a sign that reads the equiv of 150km/h and the MB would notice this and increase the speed accordingly? This car is a pranksters dream.
+pabzy2 faking road signs doesnt sound like its legal at all
+pabzy2 - not quite.

I will NEVER buy a Mercedes again!
choose diesel will be 5-6liters on 100km
+Jānis Liepiņš - we saw higher on the short test-drive of the 220d. Will wait until we can drive the car locally, on a longer test, for proper fuel consumption judgement.
I own previous 250cdi it is 6.5 -7 average in real life after empty full tank.. 50city 50outside
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Any modern Mercedes owners including myself, knows all of these tech feature will malfunction after few years and will cost fortune to fix it. What modern Mercedes owners really want is more simple cars with less parts to spend money fixing
***** Unfortunately I'm not that dumb....
***** There are plenty of cars in this class that are more reliable than Merc and just better than Genesis
***** Personally I would choose GS450h
+Shitty Bill I don't care how much it cost, you get for what you pay, I have enough money to buy and own E-Class, and my previous car S-Class, therefore I'll buy reliable, stylish, and powerful GS450h for my next car, rather than go for cheaper option, it's not the engine power I want, what I want is the overall balance, the finesse. enough said.
+INUMIMI28 you do realize that the lexus gs sedan has the same tech as the e class right? there's only a few things it doesn't have like the earing protection, automatic steering, and the cruise control reading the signs. otherwise it has most of the same tech the e class has
See you again it's been a lon

+Ke Z - LOL. Trust us, when we say A, you'll know it. It's basically a capital A then all the 'Y's in the world.
