This is the piece from which the Prologue theme of Beauty and the Beast was written by Alan Menken, intended as a version of Aquarium, which was used as a temporary mood-filler piece in the film’s production while Alan came up with his own version-which became the Prologue theme of the movie! Also, the final pounding chords of Aquarium remind me of the ones that conclude Rachmaninov’s “Rach 3.” Both have similar alternating pounding chords that ascend in same manner to the peak chord which Aquarium ends on, but Rach 3 has 4 final punctuating chords at the end! *bum-ba-ba-BUM!*
This piece is used in movies once in a while, trailers too. So nice. See the opening credits of Terence Malick's beautiful drama "Days of Heaven" for an example. Oh, another gorgeous piece from Carnival of the Animals is "The Swan". That's as lovely as this one.
@@joehouses5097 That early sequence of the animated Beauty and the Beast-- as we see the castle revealed in the forest-- has music that *sounds* like Aquarium, but it's not the actual piece.
This piece brings images of me surviving in a dense forest with nothing, returning to my wooden hut with heavy snow falling between the trees. Love it!
My parents had the vinyl of “Carnival of the animals”. This piece is my favourite. It brings me back to my childhood in the 80’s. No internet, just our imaginations!
Awww.....that's so cool you finally found it. Isn't that one of the best feelings to experience? That piece gives me tingles. "After silence that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music."
There are few things as satisfying as having some scrap of melody buzzing around one's head since one was too young to get the name of, and then in adulthood finally finding it.
I was haunted by this piece eveer since hearing it on the soundtrack of Days of Heaven. I thought at the time it was composed for the movie, but my knowledge of classical music was somewhat poor. An amazing piece of music and makes me lapse into a dreamy state of mind.
i kept listening to the Days of Heaven soundtrack thinking.....its not quite it, but its close!.....great movie as well, everyone should see it....beautifully filmed
Definitely! John Williams does this all the time-he takes a measure or two of thematic material from a previously composed classical work and makes it his own and incorporates it into movies. I wonder if it's a conscious decision or not?
Let me straighten people out here. This song has not been used in ANY of the Harry Potter films. It has, on the other hand, been used in creating the theme of Beauty and the Beast and the love theme of True Blood. No more fights and/or ignorant comments please :)
I kid you not. The absolute best thing to do is go to an aquarium, head to the shark tank, put headphones on, and listen to this. It’s absolutely magical. Trust me
I discovered this in recent years after being a fan of Beauty and the Beast and its haunting prologue since childhood. This is so eerie and gorgeous.. it transcends my comprehension. I love it.
Sounds like my theme. An eccentric neighbor alone in a decrepit house that the neighborhoods kids say is owned by a creepy sorcerer with house full of oddities, antiques, and object of the occult. A dream house of mine.
I love this piece, first heard it in a movie trailer when I was four or five, and now, after all these years, I know what it's called. THe best use I've seen it put to was in a documentary with some very old Victorian-era footage. Very mysterious, creepy, and almost sad.
I remember hearing this all the time on my parents' record player (they were big into classical). Not knowing the title or that it's about undersea life, it always made me think of a mysterious cave filled with treasure. It's interesting how music can cause a mind to spontaneously generate thoughts and images like that.
I used to play Jimmy White’s Cueball 2 on Dreamcast and this was the theme, at the beginning... hours and hours spent playing that game, when I was a young kid. I’ve always wondered what this tune was!
If not for Astroboy I'd not have grown to love this piece of music nor many others considered classic. I'd also probably not be as thoughtful or considerate a human where others are concerned. I watched this tonight as a 40 yo and felt the same strong pangs to be a better person as I did watching this as a young child. I'm so glad I own the box set and have made this mandatory viewing for my own kids 😊
where the *FRICK* have i heard this song?!?!?!? it sounds like harry potter or beauty and the beast or anastasia and literally everyone I've shown this song to have heard it too but don't know where *UGH*
I feel that Harry Potter had to create his own soundtracks for each moment, since using songs like this or others in the movies makes them look unoriginal and at the same time lacking in imagination, I don't like Harry Potter movies at all. That all because they did not put investment and also because the scenes and dialogues, as well as change and edit the story, not to mention that they do not show parts of the story in the movies, which in the books if you go out, that's why I don't they like movies but I adore books.♥️

I love how this inspired the Prologue from the animated Beauty and the Beast, as well as "Lacrymosa" from Libera's 2010 Peace album. So beautiful.
This piece is so eery, sinister but at the same time so beautiful, brings you peace, serenity, and so misterious😊.
I agree beautiful yet frightening. It enchants yet makes you feel beware.
I was afraid of this piece for some reason when I was a kid
