I work in Potter retail at USH now! The off-season on call life is a struggle, but being in Potter and around those who share the love for the wizarding world keeps me going! Love this video!
I got fired 2 times almost 7 years ago. I've had steady employment history since then working in law enforcement. I was young and stupid. Any chance you think they would hire me back? Or is there no point in trying?
The thing about being depressed and being able to bring joy to people hit the nail on the head for me. That's a real admission, and I loved your story.
Your admission of depression, and the healing effects of being around others on their best days, hearing that was an epiphany like moment for me. I've worked in the leisure/amusement industry since I was 16 (blockbuster & Hollywood video, AMC & Edwards theater, Disneyland, Knotts, & currently at Universal).
I feel the same enjoyment being around everyone when fun is being had.

Love this video! I'm likely moving to Orlando this summer and once the parks reopen, I want to apply! I am completely ok with only getting to work 1 shift a week in my case, but I'm wondering, how do you apply to make sure you're assigned to the "Potter" section?

Me and my girlfriend and some friends of ours had the opportunity a few months ago to go to Universal in Orlando and then a month ago to Six Flags over Georgia. Personally, I'm a roller coaster/theme park fanatic. I know it's probably overly said about having a "magical" experience but there's ALWAYS something so renewing/refreshing about a theme park/roller coaster to me that I can't seem to get enough of. I even thought of the possibility of potentially working at one though I had big doubts they could replace my current income ($50k).
I guess I was just unsure if I should even entertain that step of things by making something I'm fanatical about my everyday job. But isn't that what people do? Find something they're passionate about and then become a part of it for their everyday life? That's the kind of vibe I got when you talked about sharing your love of Potter in your everyday job with people who go there specifically for that.

Thank you for a little bit of insight into working at universal, I have an interview coming up for custodial work and even though its not a guarantee I'm getting the job I just wanted to make sure I was completely prepared.

I am a universal studios vet. I don't work there anymore but I did back in 2004-05. I worked at city walk. It was rough. People can be jerks.

So glad you enjoyed Harry Potter. I'm a Universal Hollywood employee, I know what you mean about the hours, but I hope you can come back eventually, you seem to have a strong passion for Harry Potter and that doesn't go unnoticed. I know a tad about Harry Potter and I'm always working with the wands just because of the information I know from the movies. But I love Universal, love the company, love the origins, I still can't believe I get to work in the exact spot where Dracula and Jaws were made. It's so cool. Yeah, the hours are tough, but I hope I can pull it off.
And I hope you can too, if you choose to come back.
I would do anything to work at universal. I would be so happy
I currently work there in the parking department, the hours used to be bad for me as well, it's a job that you gotta be prepared for, I had a 40 hour job already when I got hired, so I was set, now I get an average of 30 a week, off peak. I love working there, but it can be hard for some, sorry it didn't work out for you.
Girl I’m on the same banana boat. Last season I got a second job during low peak. This year I’m doing the unemployment route because I didn’t know you could collect unemployment even though your still employed with Universal which one of my coworkers informed me that I could do.

This was so interesting to hear! I wish i'd seen this earlier as I have some questions. I'm actually heading over to work at Universal Studios in Beijing, China this year in the Wizarding World. I'm going to be a Beauxbaton dancer in the Tri Wizard Tournament! I have heard such great things about the company and because we are "performers" we are offered onsite accomodation (for free) as well as housing facilities like a cafeteria and gym. Is this available to those who work in the park simply as sales people or ushers who stand around in the park. What happens for international employees who come to Hollywood or Florida? Do they have to find their own living space and come to the park each day?
As someone who is from Argentina and is going to work at Universal for my summer (their winter), I can tell you that yes, we have to find our own accomodation. They offer us one but is kinda expensive so most people decide to search on their own. Congrats on that sweet job btw! Are you already there? Im very interested in how is to work in these kind of parks in China!

@@briellefox9195 during the interview they ask you what ride u would like to start on usually it’ll only be 2 or 3 rides but it’s all your choice

How much did the wand cost if it’s to expensive I’m gonna try to get a free one
It depends on which wand you want, the regular or interactive. I bought two interactive wands at Universal Studios Florida & they were about $51-52 each, can't remember which. I bought them in 2016. When we went in May of this year, they allowed my son & kid brother to exchange them for without the original receipt because we had the original boxes and maps with us.

Nope they hire even if you have no experience :) You just need to be 18+ and have no tattoos, dyed hair, or piercings.

I worked at the park in California and we got minimum wage- which in CA is $12.50! Thanks for watching!
