Lovely shots there, Gareth. Nice to hear those whistles. It must be over 40 years since I last saw the VoR Railway and it has certainly changed, with a new terminus at Aberystwyth and the trains now air braked instead of vacuum. The Westinghouse air pumps seem very loud compared to those on the Brecon Mountain railway, but it might just be my perception. As for the maroon colour of Number 8, for me it does not look right- those locos look better in green, but again, it might just be my perception. Best wishes....Mervyn
Thanks Mervyn. Yes, the VoR went through a phase when they painted the locos in very different colours. One was painted in Stroudly ‘Improved Green’, in other words, yellow!
Lovely video, well composed shots captures the atmosphere well. Good to see proper GWR green. Do you know if special wagon which took locos to Swindon survived? I went on charter organised by David Howard of Bracknell Railway Society in early 1970's - Class 47 from Egham & Bracknell, great but long day (gone the days of hiring trains on National network). Of course locos V o R in uninspiring rail blue.
