Great to watch this. I was at Queens' from 1975 to 1978 and the difference between then and now is staggering. For a start, it was men only when I was there, as for communications, there were a couple of payphones and that was it!! In my final year I lived in Old Court and I remember the shared bathroom for the whole stair that was behind the gyp room, and the dank, dark toilets in the basement. I imagine that things have changed on that score as well.....
I wonder if future students will one day hold special parties in, "Jake Wright's old room". I imagine Jake may have inspired and/or informed enough future Cambridge students for that to happen. Get on it incoming Cambridge students! It was nice to see more of Roger and Swibbs. Jake has an impressively long wiener! It is too bad they delayed his order. Congratulations to Jake on the past completion of his dissertation. I wonder if Jake will do any more live streams before he starts work. I quite enjoyed his streams with Jamie Ped and SimonOxfPhys (et al.). It would be cool if he could do another with either one of both of them. I don't recall if Jake has streamed with Dan Martin (of OxVlog) yet. I think he would also be a cool streaming partner. It always seems like Jake and his streaming partners have fun doing it, and they are enjoyable to watch (even post-live). I haven't checked out Periscope yet. There are so many new apps trying to be the next big thing. I really don't keep up. If Jake likes it, it may be worth a look.
Hi Jake, congrats on your recent graduation! Thanks so much for making such inspirational and artistic videos. It's a pleasure to watch them, especially as a Queens’ offer holder! I hope you don’t mind if I ask a few questions on accommodation. I was just wondering what the other rooming options in second year were (apart from Fisher and Erasmus) and what they were like? Alternatively, if I were lucky enough in the ballot to land a room in Erasmus in second year, would I, in theory, be able to choose Erasmus again for third year? Thanks so much in advance and best of luck for everything to come.
On a scale of 1-10 how well equipped would you say Queens'/Cambridge in general is to accommodate for wheelchair users? The fact that it's quite an old place makes me slightly reluctant to apply as I fear it might be quite inaccessible to the point where being independence during my time as a student may be a struggle :/
I remember not long ago I was visiting Cambridge university and was in that McDonald's and needed a shit really bad and it was all sloppy and burnt my arsehole because I had a spicy pepperoni pizza from pizza express the night before and there was no toilet paper in the toilet so I had to use tissues. Did you manage to get your first choice room this year Jake?
All these Vlogs are scheduled as he said and he has already uploaded them. They are only scheduled to come out every week. Also, it is summer and the pace can be increased without many problems.
MobiFilms Only two were scheduled because I was on holiday. I'm now preparing to move to London and organising an apartment among other things. It takes me a while to edit the vlogs because I enjoy the editing process - that's why I make videos in the first place. I don't want to start rushing them for the sake of giving people an extra 8 minutes of video to watch a week.
Jake since you are a compsci graduate can you please suggest me a router to buy I would be using it for wireless backup and for internet in my apartment
Jake Wright Jake since you are a compsci graduate can you please suggest me a router to buy I would be using it for wireless backup and for internet in my apartment
Jake Wright Would you say that still applies to the subjects I take, being Physics, Maths, Chemistry and further maths? I really want to get into somewhere like Bath, Durham or Manchester but I'm only predicted C's and B's, probably because I dicked around at GCSE and only got 3 A's and rest were B's where I should really have gotten A*'s and A's.
Tom CTID A Levels is just work trust me. Its not really an accurate measure of ability. Its also about working smartly and efficiently, though not as much as at university. Uni is a lot more talent based, but even there- work makes up a significant proportion. There are no shortcuts, not even for the genius.
TURBO At Cambridge, and indeed most UK universities, lectures are optional. Things like lab sessions or practical sessions normally have mandatory attendance but not the lectures. That being said, you'd be quite unwise to miss the lectures at Cambridge. On the whole they are very useful and most people who attend them perform better.
Trotis Apple Yes, A-Levels are when you pick 4 subjects to do in "year 12" (in the USA you call them grades, like 1st grade, 2nd grade etc) . eg You might pick Maths, Physics, Geography and Electronics. Before A-Level is GCSE (years 9/10 - 11), and A-Levels are a huge step up in difficultly from GCSE, and thus most people (including myself) find it really hard. You need at least a D to get into year 13 sixth form, or else you have to go do something else, Most people do three subjects in year 13, and drop the forth subject (usually the one they did the worst in or least-enjoyed), but some carry on doing all 4 for some reason (even though you only need 3 to get into a good uni) A "D" is usually around 50%-60% depending on the subject, and an A is 65-80%+ , again depending on the subject.(This is in terms of exam marks). So to go an A*, you need to 80-90%+ at A2 (which is what year 13 sixth form is called) in a subejct, which is insanly hard as year 12 -> 13 is apparently an even bigger jump than GCSE -> year 12. Sorry if that doesn't make sense lol
Hi! Have you recieved my message? 'Cause I'm not sure if my email adress is right, but anyway - if you don't want or if you can't to play any kind of music - answer under this comment or to my email

Once all the uni vlogs have been uploaded, are you going to be doing daily vlogging or something like that? :)

It would be nice if you upped the frequency of the vlogs to about 2 per week.

How much of getting an A/A* at A Level is work and how much is natural talent?
Tom CTID 90% work
Jake Wright Would you say that still applies to the subjects I take, being Physics, Maths, Chemistry and further maths? I really want to get into somewhere like Bath, Durham or Manchester but I'm only predicted C's and B's, probably because I dicked around at GCSE and only got 3 A's and rest were B's where I should really have gotten A*'s and A's.
Jake Wright thats very motivational
Tom CTID If you do enough work, you'll get anywhere you want.
Tom CTID A Levels is just work trust me. Its not really an accurate measure of ability. Its also about working smartly and efficiently, though not as much as at university. Trotis Apple
