In this video, I altered Pokémon Emerald just a bit to make it more Ash like. I walk around as ash, and all the gym leaders have the same Pokémon they did in the anime. Basically, I wanted to see if Ash could have become the Hoenn champion. Let's find out!

Essentially, there are two times he was able to one shot pokemon that according to calculations, shouldn’t have happened. Not gonna spoil it here, but you’ll probably see. Since the Battle Frontier takes place in Kanto, you could play through HGSS's Post Game, but swap out the gym leaders sprites and teams for that of the
Frontier Brains.

So excited for this one. This is my gen. I'm grown now and I have my kids play this on emulators on their tablets. We watch the new anime and everything lol. Ash's outfits up till xy are peak.

Otherwise keep there game battles and use whatever Ash Gen 1 to 3 mons you want since Battle Frontier highlighted Ash being able to do that

I’m not sure if this is a good idea but if you finish the ash challenge you could do it based on the pokemon of some of his companions like you could see if the pokemon that dawn had at each stage could defeat the gym leader like how dawn had piplup and bunnery buizel and pachirisu at eterna gym
That’s a series I might do in the future. More immediately, I’m looking at following ash’s rivals through the anime. I’m actually working on a hack of platinum to play as Paul already

14:21 The Thunder boost probably would have worked if you didn't have Swellow Poisoned and used Thunder Wave instead of Thunderbolt. : P
Yeah that would have been better, but poison or burn is my go to for guts, because it doesn't drop your speed.
U should go on when a Pokémon faints. Ash also goes on with another one when his Pokémon can’t go on anymore

I think you could beat the Hoenn League with Ash’s team, as long as you have the right moves and attacks. Take Torkoal for example, replace Overheat with Solarbeam and Heat Wave with Earth Power, then you got a powerful tank.

Awesome video, I've always wanted to play through the Hoenn region as Ash, where exactly did you get Corphish though?
So I changed the encounters to get one. You get an old rod in decors town, and I made it possible to catch a corphish in decors town with it. I forgot about that change actually
@@NuzlockeJoe yeah, it took me awhile, but I eventually found one hahaha. But I'm having major trouble beating Brawly with Corphish and Treecko, tried to be as faithful to the anime as possible, but I can't 😅
@@Niall_Sene yeah, that’s why I eventually had to give up. I didn’t think it was possible, so since ash had used tailow in the previous fight, I called it fair.
@@NuzlockeJoe Yep, I ended up having to use Taillow as well, but now that I've got to Watson there is a slight issue, as it's my first battle with him, but he's using a level 40 Manectric... Any ideas how I could get past that? 😅
@@Niall_Sene Dang it. That was supposed to be his rematch battle, but I suppose it didn’t work that way… You could always PKHex in a stronger Pokémon, just for that fight. I could probably fix it’s but certainly won’t have time today

idk why faints need a reset? Ash loses pokemon in the battles all the time. It always goes down to his last pokemon (outside of Crasher Wake)
That’s true, it’s just a way to make the challenge more difficult. I normally do hardcore nuzlockes, but that would be much too difficult in this video. So I took a similar approach but a bit easier

The faint rule is… interesting, but honestly kinda frustrating to watch. Ash has won gym battles where a team member faints, I don’t see why if a Pokémon faints you have to start the whole match over, even if you are trying to play as Ash
Yeah you’re not the only one to say that. I was trying to make the challenge a bit more difficult, and nuzkocke-like without the actually nuzkocke rule, but I think I’m going to drop it for the next video.

Why is swellow still poisoning?
Well he has guts so whenever I need him, I get him burned or poisoned
I feel like sinnoh and Kalos will be really easy for you to win. They were two of his best teams.
Well sinnoh he would of won if Tobias wasn’t their or had a none legendary team but kalos is hard to say easy because of alon

Why is Swellow always poisoned?
To activate guts of course! Whithout if, swellow kinda sucks. But with a guts boosted facade, he is king

Ash lost to the eventual champions a few times so he could have finished even higher
But ash treeco new bullet seeds a Tm you can get before the first gym
So the problem wasn't my treeko, but Ash's. In the anime, for whatever reason, he was unable to use grass moves until he learned bullet seed. So I decided to do that too.

@@crimsonflareumbreon1290 imo, that’s a bit different. For Treecko, and cyndaquil in Johto, it was a semi major plot point for them that they were unable to properly use their signature moves. So I followed that. The first time Treecko used a grass move was in mawville, so I held off till then. Maybe it’s arbitrary, but it seemed significant to me

Okay. So I just watched the first one and I'm gonna make my way here. But ultimately if you're asking the question if Ash could have been champion then resetting when a Pokémon faints, it isn't a question. The answer will always be yes. When in reality, the answer is most likely no.
True, but I would argue that ash had it easier, because he is allowed to let Pokémon faint. I mean, they do all the time in his gym battles!
@NuzlockeJoe I agree completely. The only way to challenge the theory would be on a Nuzlocke which really isn't fair to the player
I don’t get it I thought the rules were no items in battle but you can use the light ball? Why do you use held items. Not needed for this play through
I’m so typically the no items in battle means no using items like potions and stuff. Held items are generally ok, even in hardcore nuzlockes

Why not just use oras if you want all the new stuff instead of modifying an old game?
Sure, couple of reasons. I have experience modifying gen 3, so I could alter it I walk around as ash. Not sure how to do that in ORAS. Same with changing gym leader teams.
This is also the third video in a series, starting at gen one and working my way up through each gen.
