Yea I think it's just his style. Esp since this was Xu Bin's first acting role he has to guide him a little more. But there are other BTS scenes where he's really nice to the actor. He also gives Xu bin one-on-one advice and they joke around a lot, so I think it's just the way he comes across when he's got his director's hat on.
