Man what a good episode. I LOVE to finally see necromancy used for HEALING which was always something that made sense. I cannot wait to play my Mourn Watch Rook! I do think that Emmrich’s hesitance and “too nice for his own good” nature will be his Big Flaw though. Sometimes you have to take action but he’s too nice to become aggressive when needed. But it’s nice to know we will have a companion who celebrates peaceful options over aggressive.
And finally Emmrich! Glad to see more of the mourn watch after tevinter nights! Oh so this wasn't the last ep? Anyway it was one of the best eps yet. Emmrich is gonna be my 3rd romance for sure after Lucanis and Neve, or maybe even 2nd! I already liked him in Tevinter Nights buy now even more! I hope we get to see Audric and Myrna too in the game. VARRIC!!! And Neve again!
Pascal and his sister sound like they're from a kids audio book where the listener always knows who the culprit is before the other characters in the story do...I wish they would turn it down a bit. I assume most listeneres are not kids 😅
Pretty sure it may also be because it's based on the House of Usher. In a short time span to consider, not surprising they use dramatic irony. Which isn't for kids exactly, it's just a form of irony.
Like, ngl, when I initially said Manfred will probably sound like a gremlin bc Matt Mercer is his VA I didn't mean, like, LITERALLY but here we are lmao xD
Emmrich's concept of "good aligned necromancer" is interesting. I suppose being a Mortalitasi that are a mix of Priests and Mages and do a lot to preserve death instead of raising the undead had its effect. Manfred is kinda similar - instead of being a demon (corrupted spirit) posessing the dead body / skeleton resulting in aggressive undead like walking corpses from previous DA games he is likely a non-corrupted spirit in a skeleton body, so he is curious / supportive and not aggressive and even has his own personality (like not liking nicknames).
I do remeber Cassandra speaking of them in a somewhat positive light. Her uncle was a mortalitasi that raised her and her brother when her parents were on the wrong side of the rebellion.
@@Ashbrash1998 Yes, is novels Mortalitasi are shown positively - they perform last rites and safeguard the Great Necropolis from threats both outside (like graverobbers) and inside (like wicked spirits). They are also not as much at raising the undead themselves as dealing with spirits that pass the Veil or post-death ghosts. I would not be surprised if Manfred is one of such curious spirits that passed the Veil and got into a skeleton body, eventually met Emmrich, they got along and he became his assistant. He does not seem like an undead Emmrich had risen himself - Emmrich does not have full control over him (and asks him of favors instead of commanding) and Manfred definitely has some personality when risen undead usually don't and just follow the commands.
Enjoyed the episode. My only tiny nitpick is that Emmrich shouldn't be saying 'By Jove' since this refers to a deity that doesn't exist in the universe.
Honestly i cannot describe how much i ENJOYED this episode, Emmerich is such a delight of a character. Main problem is that companions i liked the most are him and Bellara but my Rook is also a mage, so i guess it's gonna be full mage team ahah.
Thank you for Drayden, I feel better now. This character cast (and voice cast) is phenomenal, I love them all. I am looking forward to whatever is coming next! (Also, hearing Varric's voice will always bring joy)
Excited to listen! Hopefully we get a continuation at one point following next week’s final episode after the game has launched. So much they could cover across Thedas. Edit: Really good episode. Interested to see how it all concludes next Thursday.
Cliffhanger again? ahhh! I am really curious if they wrap it up next week or we will finish the story as a part of a companion quest in the game, maybe? Emmerich is so smooth. Real gentleman!
I really enjoy this podcast, and I really like Emmrich, been waiting for weeks. I hope in the actual game, tho, that demons and other villains are more eloquent and clever than "human slime" and "if I can't have her body then no one will " and talking like very obviously morally dubious spooky hosts. 😅 I hope the writing in these episodes has been purposeful radio play camp.
@@91sabra oh thanks, that helps my anxiety. I just really want the game to be as good as possible, esPECially so all the haters can finally stuff it! Lol
@@LaenayaSathe I feel you! I try to avoid the comments on most things they’ve been putting out just to avoid the people with boring lives that have to talk sh*t.
No doubt. Heck, I learned how to check for concussions, reset an out-of-socket arm, etc. .... just from martial arts training. Assassin training would not only include dealing with injuries but they'd want to prep for eventual self-care if injured while "on the job."
I must say, the usage of the pronoun "they" is confusing. I mean I get it, they want a transgender character in the story, fine by me, but I don't think "they" as pronoun works. First I thought Lucanis referred to drayden as "they" because of his accent. When Nadia said it, I was confused and it took me a while to understand. But I find it odd, that everyone in the story automatically knows, how Drayden wants to be reffered to. If they have to use different pronouns, wouldn't it be better to make up a word that isn't already being used in a different context? When Nadia tells Emmerich "they have been poisoned", wouldn't that be confusing to a person that doesn't know Drayden. If I were Emmerich I would think there were more people that needed help. I'm not necessarily against the usage of different pronouns, but it would be nice for it to make sense to the listener. Maybe it is just me - in that case, fine.
Since Drayden is the one collapsed and unconcious, I don't see how that the use of 'they' would be unclear. Particularly since unseen to us Nadia could be gesturing towards them.
They has, historically, always been used in the English language (starting from the 14th century) as a general, single person pronoun when the person's gender is unclear. It's a very natural usage, to just keep referring to them that way, since Nadia does. Ex: Someone ate the biscuit. Reply: They better be watching out, I'm going to catch them!
This is what I said in the last podcast. Grammar-wise it’s incorrect, confusing and that’s only in fiction. With nonfiction like newspaper reports it just gets downright unprofessional and unintentionally comical (as in a death notice or police report). Just find a way to use the name.
@@Sindel99meg Neve gets her own episode. That first episode was a short intro to her only. (Listen to the end of this podcast, she's in the short bit teasing next week's episode).

The same thing happened last episode with the captain:'D he was so cartoonishly evil
There's only so much nuance you can pitch in one-off 30-min audio dramas. The focus was on Lucanis and on Drayden.
