I knew that was coming but, man, such a painful episode to watch. They've done an interesting job sending Yuko off but it's still so sad specially because it's clear the staff were forced to do it. Her alien status was only brought up this episode. It's really sad she couldn't stay until the end. Her reunion with Seiji on Mebius was still good but it's hard to take the bittersweet feel away.
Unfortunately, Seiji had no chance to say to Yuko that " the moon is beautiful"... The episode had many nice scene compositions. The explosions were well timed and the Terrible Monster is one of the most imaginatives I've ever seen, with a rabbit motif and lauching it's eyeballs as missiles. I still think it was a mistake to cut Yuko off from the series and make her as a Selenian. But if it weren't for this, there wouldn't be the message left by Ace to Mebius that even apart from each other the hearts are connected. A message that saved the young hero so he could defeat Yapool's evil scheme.
It's a beautiful and sad episode, I'm watching Ace for the first time, But I already knew about this episode. Probably there were changes in the script at that time, but she was almost the first Ultrawoman. Also, I really want to se a spin off with some Ultrawoman (Griggio maybe, or a new one).
Interestingly, yesterday, Yahoo Japan made an article about the actress and her brief time in the role, but been in Japanese I couldn't understand it. I went to Ultrawiki, to see what I could find, but most of the information came from the comment section on Yuko Minami - basically, the audiences didn't like the idea of a Female character been an UltraHost, hence the change to revert back to a one host. I think there had been 4 Female Ultras total : Ultraman 80 Ultraman Nexus The ⭐Ultraman (79-80) HB/Tsuburaya Ultraman the Adventure Begins (89) I understand there had been more, but I recall these.

Terminado el combate, Yuko no puede evitar sentirse triste por su partida, su misión ha terminado y le revela a Seiji que ella es un Alien nacida en la Luna, pues hace tiempo, la Luna era parte de la Tierra y se separó poco a poco, aún así, era un lugar muy hermoso hasta que Lunaticks convirtió todo en lo que es ahora. Cómo representante de esa especie, Yuko ha cumplido su misión, confiando su Ultra Anillo a Seiji para que siga combatiendo por el bien de la Tierra... I've delayed the sad separation long enough... It's time to say goodbye to Minami Yuko! Nurse, TAC member, Sister of the Moon and co-host of Ultraman Ace! 🥺🌕🐇 Did you notice? Since ep 5, every Ace episode opens with the cry of a chouju. This episode, it opens with the sound of Ace's transformation. It was said that Yuko's departure surprised everyone, and I feel the crew poured a lot of love into this episode's scenery and effects. (It was probably because it would cost too much to re-record a new opening, but I'm also glad that Tsuburaya never took out Minami's name from Ace's opening song.) Debussy's "Claire de Lune" plays throughout this episode, and there are many lovely shots and references to the moon. Minami reveals that it is really a "desert of death", repeating Ace's theme on appearances. Humans like to think children are innocent and the moon is beautiful. Lunaticks also refers to the "rabbit on the moon". Except it's a deranged-looking chouju who destroyed the Moon's civilisation and turned it into a barren wasteland 🥲 The slow pan across the erupting earth and steam, as Lunaticks emerges to howl at the moon, is wonderful. Lunaticks may look like a scary FNAF clown rabbit with missiles for eyes, but it has cute mannerisms such as hopping to move around 🐇 Lunaticks appears every October. Since Hokuto has been with TAC for 3 years, does this mean it's been dormant for the past few years? With the steam and moonlight, the aftermath of this short encounter gives a sense of the devastation Lunaticks likely caused on the Moon, and could replicate on Earth. Unlike her normally calm self, Minami rushes to the scene. It's funny seeing Hokuto be the obedient one! She asks to transform immediately, and speaks cryptically about Lunaticks and the moon. Hokuto doesn't push her for more. They've been partners for so long, after all. Minami's expression is plaintive and earnest, and Hokuto agrees to transform, not knowing this is their last Ultra Touch 😭 On rewatching, I was surprised how early Ace appeared! The battle with Lunaticks is long, taking place both below and above ground. (I guess Ace learned to fight underground since Aribunta!) Lunaticks powers its fire attack with magma, but missile eyes still don't work on Ace! Ace and Lunaticks emerge above ground, and fight dramatically under the moonlight against the erupting Mt Kami. In most scenes, the Moon hovers distinctively in the sky, watching over the outcome of this battle. Despite tricks by Lunaticks, the battle is surprisingly physical. There is also no Metallium Beam finisher, and instead, Lunaticks is quite horrifically burned to death by its own magma. Despite the cheers from humans (a rare scene in Ace!), Ace silently watches Lunaticks burn before flying away. This was Yuko's last battle as Ace. Hokuto and Minami's expressions when they say goodbye are so emotional. I especially love how gently Hokuto looks at her, as he can be quite a rough and demanding person. Hokuto's question just breaks my heart, as he never expected to separate from Yuko 🥲 Throughout the series, when anyone (mainly TAC) doubted Hokuto, it was Minami who always stood by and supported him. In this last episode together, she once again gives Hokuto her encouragement that he can now transform into Ace by himself. Hokuto has also grown stronger... From here, it feels like Hokuto is about to cry 😭 It feels like he wanted to say goodbye alone to assure Minami that he is able to carry on as Ace alone. I also think he wanted to give Ace a chance to say goodbye too. When Minami also says goodbye to TAC, Yamanaka is even closer to the edge of tears too 🥲 He's always so expressive! The determination in Hokuto's gestures here to transform! Hokuto's first and, moving forward, future transformations into Ace! He would transform successfully here to prove Minami's faith in him was correct! It's a silent farewell, but the emotional music and small gestures make it so poignant - Minami, who flies a loop fondly around Ace; and Ace waving goodbye (instead of just nodding like a stoic adult Ultra). Having just lost Ultra Father in the previous episode, and Minami in this one, it feels like both Ace and Hokuto have passed through a phase in life, growing up a little more, and renewing their vow to protect Earth. But Yuko's absence already feels a little lonely. I wish Hokuto had at least kept Minami's scarf 😭 When we next see Hokuto, he sits in TAC Arrow alone, and already he has a different feeling about him. "Yes, he has no option" but to keep moving forward. The last line of an article on this episode states: "Hokuto will now fight alone [as Ultraman Ace], with no one to share his pain and secrets with." 😭 As a last point, thinking of Hokuto's words in Mebius, although they wouldn't meet again for decades, Hokuto could transform into Ace because Minami's heart never left him. If they could Ultra Touch across universes through a screen, what was the distance between Earth and Moon?
Also, weird plot hole here. In Ep 20, Hokuto says it's been three years since he joined TAC, which means that Minami has had three years, not one, to handle Lunatyx, who supposedly shows up once a year on October. Either this is a retcon or Minami didn't dare deal with Lunatyx until the Yapool had been dealt with...I guess because the moment she did show interest, the aliens would have realized what she was.

Na real, o Ultraman Ace tinha dois hospedeiros por causa de 2 qualidades essenciais, a bravura que vinha do Hokuto e o amor que vinha da Yuko. E na moral, acertaram em cheio, porque não existe amor melhor no mundo entre humanos que o amor de uma mulher. É sempre mais intenso e terno. A gente fala que hoje tem mimimi, mas aquela época também tinha por algumas besteiras sem noção
A tensão de ter dois hospedeiros que precisam estar juntos pra se transformar era algo único dessa série, por causa de preconceito Ace virou uma série como qualquer outra depois desse episódio. Ainda é boa, mas nada único.
