First place for me the Lincoln, 2nd the Riviera,3rd, Monte. The luxxo coupes from USA from 70 to 73 are the best looking cars built. Those Monaros were awesome but we didn't get any Aussie cars here very unfortunately!

As well as the Australian Valiant Charger Chrysler aslo made a personal luxury car versions of the sedans. Top model was the Chrysler CH Hardtop :

Only engine in this top of the range model was the 360 V8.
The new US manager pushed for this hardtop version and was convinced it would sell well. However it sold poorly, like his Australian staff predicted. Quite unlike the dominance of Chrysler sales by the performance oriented Charger range for less money. For a year or two anyway.

Ford Australia aslo had a car for that personal luxury car segment.
It was the luxury longer wheelbase version of the more performance oriented Falcon coupe versions. But sharing lots of features with the top of the range Australian LTD.
Standard motor was the 351 Cleveland, but without all the performance options that were found on the Falcon GT coupes.
Unusually it ran four wheel disc brakes from the start of production. This enabled the Falcon GT to use four wheel disc brakes in racing as it was considered to be a trim level variation of the Landau under racing rules.

I'm always impressed by the amount of information you convey amidst the visual avalanche of stunning sheet metal. I don't think there was a single car shown here that I wouldn't be thrilled to own. Another mesmerizing episode, my friend. And another wish list I'll be mailing off to Santa.

Thank you for another video. Thank you for going global as well. I smiled when I saw the GM models( Chevrolet, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Buick, Cadillac, and Holden) and the Ford/Lincoln models. I liked seeing the Citroen SM coupe.Thank you for the major effort.

The Mark V is the epitome of the long and low Lincoln look.

The US and Australian touring coupes were still going for straight line power and smooth rides while the European models had superior handling, particularly the BMWs. Another great video, HCG. 👍👍👍

Ah, the 71 Riviera was arguably the most beautiful & or designed personal luxury coupe & this is being said by a life long Ford guy.🤔

The Monte Carlo (GM) started the segment, the Monte Carlo (GM) started the popularity of the segment. Uh... Ford did, with the Thunderbird that out sold & lived the Monte Carlo & had a resurgence, 🤔. The personal sport coupe became or just always was called the personal luxury coupe since a personal sport coupe is just a pony car or muscle car with options. Oh & don't get me started on the Ranchero - El Camino myth of how the El Camino came first too, 🤔🙄.

The Monte Carlo started the popularity of the mid sized coupes that were popularized in the 1970s. The Thunderbird popularized the bigger cars in the late 50s, and moved to the smaller, cheaper segment in the late 70s.

I believe I included the CH in my large cars of the period video, as well as the LTD.

We had them in Australia as well. They they were planned in the 60's when the big three were convinced the market was heading that way. They came to market in the early 70's just when fuel prices were close to blast off point. Holden had the HQ Monaro in various forms. Ford had the new XA Falcon hardtop in plain, Fairmont and GT versions. Chrysler were quite successful with their VF and VG hardtops that they had another go with a hardtop of whale like proportions based on the VH sedan. They too tried to do a Landau with a super luxury version of their hardtop. With the exception of the HQ coupes early success they all failed and when the HQ became the HJ sales were minimal. Chrysler though pulled a rabbit out of the hat with its highly successful two door Charger. It made Chryslers bigger hardtops look bloated and the Falcon hardtop look ridiculous. The big Holden and Ford coupes limped on until around 1976. They both had to introduce limited production models to use up the remaining body shells they had left over. The Charger lived on until 1978. Holden had another go with the two door Torana hatchback in 1976. Much smaller than their bigger coupes but at that stage only available with one under powered six cylinder engine and two V8's. It was also priced ridiculously high. The result was inevitable, it flopped.

Timing might not be everything, but is certainly has an impact. Particularly when value isn't part of the equation.

Thanks for showing the great personal coupes of the early 70's world wide, just so many to choose from, to me the birth of these cars had to be the 60's Buick Riveria,, the Thunderbirds, and a car that was not a retail car the Chrysler Turbine, have the model of it on my shelf.
