How do you control the temperature of the compost when it starts rising up, as it surely does, in order to protect the worms and the roots from these high temperatures?
My question for anyone who can answer, will the worms overwinter and survive in cold climates or should we accept replacing them every spring? We are like zone 4 and winters can get plenty cold and very little snow for insulation, in Idaho desert.
Great concept. I am with two groups that are working to reduce poverty and provide food security for ours and other communities. Look forward to a more economical version that could be bought in numbers and used in various programs.
even at 260 ish, thats too much for us poverty stricken so i was able to build two for 120$. might not be as fancy but..... i want to thank you and others for an awesome idea and design.
just curious to anyone new reading these comments what would make it worth it to you? seeds and the dirt to go with it? worms to start with etc.... im not criticizing, just curious, I think the people are offering a fair price considering the cost of labor production parts etc...
@@shroom6426 including seeds and ingredients (or a sprouting nursery), reducing the price to how much an DIY would cost, and having your people come in to install it are all options that may make it worth-it for the consumer to purchase. I know that lowering the cost is probably not really an option after the production and labor is finished. I can't run from the concept - doing it yourself is almost always more affordable. Being the expert who can install it for people is never going to outlive its utility, despite all efforts in automation, in my humble opinion.
@@shroom6426 The makers talk about how the wante to help with food hicking prices, famine, etc. The irony here is this is produced in a first world country where labor is really expensive... so for the ones of us that live in third world countries the cost is really high... just for example the medium income per month in Mexico (that is not considered a particulary poor country) is around 470 dollars (as of may 2022) and the 10 percenters just need to make around 2800 dlls a month to be in this high percentile (an american would need to make around 14500 dlls a month to be a 10% in the USA). So, for a Mexican this looks really expensive and DYIable easily so the current price is just unachievable to any non rich country. The concept is awesome but unless this gets produced somewhere cheaper it will remained a rich people accesory. Until they cant actually reduce the cost to around 200dlls or less I dont see how can this become a globaly use product (even if I'm 100% in favor of people growing some food at home)
How far apart do you suggest to place these if you were to have a multitude of grow towers in a given area, and how does the north side grow in comparison to the southern side? Any noticable difference?
Looks like the tube would fill up fairly quickly...where does the castings go? how do you clear it to start filling again? Nice in theory, but a lot of work and a lot of dirt to move to empty and refill...
There is a pullout "gate" at the base of the worm tube. . . there is also a drawer at the bottom that allows the compost tea to collect and be poured back over the top. My Garden Tower is 2 years old, and the potting mix is still great. No need to change that. Sometime the roots can get tangled in the worm tube. . . people have used different types of augers to clear that as needed, and to remove the castings, separate the worms and add them back in to start fresh. . . .
You misinterpreted the video. Once the payment for machines which produce this tower in mass has been fully payed, then the unit will be sell-able for around $200.
You can get a Garden Tower 2 for about 40% off through Kickstarter right now (until Dec 7th) for $232 INCLUDING national shipping (which costs us about $46). See it here: bit.ly/GardenTower2_Kickstarter
right now they are being sold for 589.00, that's waaayy to much for a gardening planter. I'll wait till the payment on the machines is fulfilled and they sell for 200, even that's a lot, but for the amount of plants it can hold and the drainage drawer, It is a wonderful wonderful idea, don't get me wrong, but there are many innovative people on youtube that can make their own garden towers for under $20 dollars. I don't know...
Mama, the Garden Tower 1.1 sells for $269, the Garden Tower 2 is on kickstarter right now for $232 delivered, or about $190 for the next couple weeks only. Where did you see it for 589? bit.ly/GardenTower2_Kickstarter
Great idea but way too expensive. As other videos on container gardening, you can build your own for anywhere from $25 to $100. If you got money and don't have a way to construct your own, then yea, I could see some buying this.
Thank you for the idea especially for those plantitos and plantitas living in urban area who have limited space.
You called it, Janele. You're so smart and creative.
How do you control the temperature of the compost when it starts rising up, as it surely does, in order to protect the worms and the roots from these high temperatures?
How do you get rid of the small flies that are eating my plants and compost
can i throw in vegetable oil too?
Imagine my surprise when I went to your website to purchase one, and it wasn’t “around $200”. 😳
In how many days does lettuce grow in this system?
Does the middle compost area ever need to be emptied?
Yes, generally every 3 months during the growing seasons.
My question for anyone who can answer, will the worms overwinter and survive in cold climates or should we accept replacing them every spring? We are like zone 4 and winters can get plenty cold and very little snow for insulation, in Idaho desert.
is there a way to just circulate the water with the food scraps to avoid the need?

Wayyy too expensive- love the concept but found some easy DIYs for 1/4th the cost..

Amazing, inovative, genius, eco friendly idea...absolutely love this, way to go love the product idea😁

What do you use to clear the roots from the tube? ALSO, could I use worm composted soil in the tower instead of worms and scrapes?
how can we do this without the worms?
How often does it need to be watered in a hot summer?
In moderate climates, every 2-3 days in the summer. In arid climates, once per day if the plants are growing vigorously.
Which plants would you plant in the tower?
I ordered one of these garden tower 2 i can't wait to plant my own seeds
I went to the site and there is no unit as you claimed in your video for $200

It has been already passed 5 or 6 years since Shella questioned about $ 200. How many more years take to lower the price to $200?
@@Gardentowerproject when is the price gonna change??? It’s been years ???
Will the worms stay alive in winter
unlikely unless you live in a tropical clime
sweet Thanks...gonna use the design in my back yard...
Its called a vertical compost tube... Seen one in an other video for the garden..
Looks like you're link got hijacked.
