I have been an automotive tech for 48 years. I just recently retired. I just wanted to tell you that your video is spot on. AND it is the only one out of 6 vids I watched today that was. Great Job!
This engine does have an ignition timing adjustment. There is a timing connector under the passenger side of the dashboard that needs to be jumped before the timing is adjusted.
You mentioned the computer does the ignition timing on this car....is that common on all hondas because of the ecu and icm fine tuning it. Some say no matter what you need to put a timing light to it.
I have a 1996 Honda Accord LX with 4-cyclinder engine. I am going to change the distributor tomorrow. And I did it once already in 2009. I want to let you know that you explained the critical steps very clearly in this video. Thank you!
Brooooo!! Been dealing with crank no start with starter fluid. Till it wouldn’t. Found out here about oil coming out the distributor. Had no idea. But I go look n touch. Oh boy it’s a leaker. Just replaced it too and it was pain to set right for smog. Flywheel marks pretty much gone. Need an extendo paint brush paint those marks. Gotta buy a new distributor. Replaced the main fuel relay like a genius. Now I have a new spare 😊
Great video, especially showing how to center the rotor in place, also you can just use the cap from the old distributor and save the new cap if you'd like, incase you don't want to get confused with putting the wires the right way.
🤔Not necessarily the best advice. You should go ahead change the cap with the rest because there’s rotor contacts on the inside of the cap that also are pivotal in the function. They get Worn down by the constant contact from the rotor. Plus the coil contact terminal wears down too. So if it’s been on for awhile chances are they’re worn so just replace it.
Followed your video for a 1995 accord ex with vtec. Made it a breeze. Great video. Didn't fix the starting, running rough problems even though I had a code 09 #1 cylinder position sensor. Still, great video.
I did the same thing but didn't pay attention to the way the rotory tip was pointed and now my car won't start..so I took out the distributor and turned the distributor tip 180 still won't start..nkw do I leave the distributor in where it is now and redo the timing
I was gonna mention to him that everything I'm reading and seeing says you have to put it back the way it came out as far as rotor position and you have to do the timing.
Thanks for the video. My 98 Accord, I changed the distributor, after I installed it, it won’t run,do you think I had turned the rotor the opposite way and installed it ? Because I didn’t pay attention to which way the rotor was pointing. If this is the case, I can turn back to the other way and reinstalled it,it should run, right ? Desperate now,Thanks
I hope you are kidding. You clearly have no idea how an engine and a engines lubricating system works. If the car is off and engine is cooled down most of the oil is sitting in the oil pan not the valve cover.
@@AdamvanAlderwerelt the oil was leaking when the engine was running, and it was getting pumped through the distributor. The oil pump isn't pumping any oil and there isnt much oil in the valve cover.
It's informative, but you went way too fast and hastily on taking off the distributor cap/accessories. Word of advice would be to handle those things with better care and slow down on future videos so it's better for all viewers.
Good info , using it for my Accord. Editing tip, just use cuts only edits. All your fade edits cut off last word of each sentence. KISS, keep it simple (stupid) what I was always told in video production back in the day of tape to tape editing. Thanks for the video.
for the comment from Henry Olabode u did not goo to fast bcus ths what i like fast easy n straight to the fucjing point unlike sum lame asses who make videos like these n talk n talk n talk n talk n take a long fucking time n u dont get wtf too doo, but heyy maybe everyone is diff but yes like ur videos thank u guys
Well shit. No timing needed? That means my BRAND NEW Rock Auto Cardone is defective out the box.. when i crank it up it runs like shit for like 10 seconds and runs like butter afterwards

Help me a lot, got the same problem and didn’t know if I would have to get it retuned or need special tools. Thanks man

Oct 2024 today, and your video is still helpful.

How can u set the disturbutor timing mark help plz. My disturbutor us moving
Does the replacement have anything to do with the timing?

What was the fix? i have the same issue.
@@marcusmarbury9573 ECU was bad. I ordered one from ebay for $80 and she started up like she was brand new...

Does the computer control the timing on a 99 acura cl 3.0.?
I can do a direct replacement like this?
Thanks, to whom ever knows the answer.✌️😁🤞
I don't need to replace my CYP, i need access to a breach radiator pipe that is directly underneath it.
do you know hoe to replace the ball bearing distributor..?
Why not replace the distributor seals inside and out?
Because oil gets into the internal components of the distributor in which case u need a new one
Can’t get the connectors out I done gave up
Same
Use a flat screw driver when pulling
Same mine is stuck on there like a bitch 😢
Thank you i need this info
YR VIDEO WAS VERY HELPFUL AND U TOOK YOUR TIME GREAT

@@williampotatoe3820 Did you get it fixed?
Did you get it fixed?
Do you need to drain the oil from the engine first?
Adam V no not at all.
How to Automotive I trust you since you're the expert, but my intuition tells me otherwise. How is it leaking oil if there's no oil there?

he did all this whilst holding a camera lol
I wonder if I could do this if I have no mechanical background?!

looks simple enough. but probably isnt. im sure ill botch it up and end up ruining the suspension system.

Im not sold on the distributor being faulty. My money is on that Cam seal leaking. But its hard to tell from the video
The o rings normally go bad on the distributor it's common
I think you are right because if it was the the seal on the distributor there would be oil all over the distributor where he shows the back part
Where is the tach/rpm wire located on distributor
I don’t remember it been too long since I’ve seen one. I would try to find a wiring diagram.

ealiev60 glad the video helped. I edit out all the walking back-and-forth to tool boxes and stuff like that to make the video more watchable.
sloppy
Rodolfo Rullan he did it while holding a phone and recording. Did you expect it to be perfect?
No good tutorial 😄
