Aside from the hallucination part, I relate to all of this 100%. My irresistible urge to sleep -- and regularly sleeping for over 20 hours straight -- have derailed my academic and professional progress, along with my life in general. The self-blame, not being understood, and thinking that if only one pushes oneself hard enough, everything will be well hits a little too close to home. The speaker should consider herself incredibly lucky to have been taken seriously and diagnosed quickly -- more often than not these symptoms get dismissed as "depression" or "mental illness" or "being a hypochondriac".

Hi, I'm really grateful hearing your story which I can relate to completely. This has affected me my entire life without knowing, I grew up very intelligent even I still am but I fear sleeping at work and all the embarrassments so I stopped applying for the jobs in the field I persued. So now I don't have a stable job which is something I don't like at all since I could be somewhere better . I also got married recently and I was diagnosed with preeclampsia during my pregnancy and lost my baby. This sleeping has affected every area of my life and I really need help to get over this , get a job and study again as I always wish. Is there anywhere you know where I can start from?

Thank you for so much informative descriptions! I just got the same diagnosis at age 55, and am currently in the process to recalling all the sleepy bouts in my life. Seems like I lived through phases of extreme sleepiness on and off. Is that a symptom you have experienced also?
