  • Ajahn Dhammasiha explains three fundamental principles in meditation:
    1. Gounding our awareness in the body. Feeling, experiencing our physical body. 'Kāyagatā Sati' = Mindfulness of the Body.
    2. Present moment awareness. Not planning or worrying about the future, not lingering and whingeing about the past, but mindfully being aware of what arises in the present moment here and now.
    3. Internal silence. Allowing all the incessant activity of our mind, all that thinking and fantasising and emotions to cradually calm down, quieten down, until the mind turns silent.
He also encourages us not to force these principles onto our mind, but instead to train ourselves to actually enjoy them. Body awareness, presence here and now, and silence are highly satisfactory states once we know how to appreciate them, providing us with happiness and contentment.
