I love that you guys are having a blast doing your hobby and showing people how to make their machines the best. Your machine is running super smooth and you are the best in your trade. I’m sure people are looking up to you.
i attempted to run and tune my first nitro on my own with prety limited success , so i youtubed for vidios to help ,i watched many vidios till i found this 1 and after watching i went out and straight up tuned it up like a dream within a few miniutes , now i hav a inferno and inferno st and madforce nitros ,kyosho!! thanks guys.
This is the best quick tune vid I have seen thus far... I tuned my werks engines in both my hot bodies d8t &my losi 8ight 2.0....this vid has both my cars running top notch thanks Cody!!!!!!
Yup Paul and Cody rock, Paul knows his needles and engines that's for sure.. Learnt a lot from them overall, I've just moved to reds racing team tuned engines as did "they" ... Awesome vid..
THE ULTIMATE SECRET FROM WINNER RACER!! In all the videos I've watched about carburetor adjustments for nitro rc engines not a single one talks about the secret I'm about to reveal to you that makes the difference between first, second and third on the podium. The low speed must be adjusted richer than normal but the motor must still turn well between 1/4 opening and 3/4 because the needle in the center of the slide controls from idle to 3/4. From 3/4 to full trottle you can put the slide needle in your pocket and it wouldn't change the mix. The result is that when the engine is running full throttle and you release the triger quickly the engine wants air and fuel but the slide is closed so a lot of gas (and oil) goes into the engine and cools it down and lubricates it better. Think about this.. How many seconds do you keep full trottle in a race...2 or 3 seconds.. then you can adjust the high speed needle leaner than normal and gain rpm and horsepower and by releasing the trigger very quickly for a fraction of a second like before entering a curve it cools much more and the temperature of the engine will not have time to rise above 250 degrees and you have maximum power.
Good clear and to the point. I agree with your video. I am a mechanic that deals with carbs all the time and this is just the same as a full size carb. These ppl that don't agree need to stick to efi fuel systems
Brushless has it place as well as nitro, gotta have both :) Nitro =sound, smell and better feeling of a 'proper model' Electric= quiet, clean, convenient and relatively hassle free
Good tuning guide. I think a lot of people get hung up on numbers and whether it's temperature or counting turns out on the lsn or hsn or having a .7mm idle gap, etc.... forget all that and tune for performance and use your ears and eyes to tell you if you're on the right track... which is essentially what they are doing here.
Guys you forgot to mention the right glow plug selection for right condition of weather which is an HUGE impact for reliability against cut out's on the track!
You only want to run a cooler plug in very hot conditions, like above 100f.. otherwise we always run the same plug, Reds T5C. The Reds T5C is the best plug on the market, in my opinion, in terms of durability and heat range (hot). The engine should not stop running because of the wrong temp range plug, unless you are WAY off. It's more of an ignition timing thing to advance the combustion with a hotter plug vs. colder. If people can't decide, I usually recommend the colder range to avoid detonation and subsequent engine damage from pitting.
try to heat your engine up if this is a new engine we are talking about here then your engine sleeve needs to be "broken in" just run your engine slightly rich at around 200f for a gallon or 2 and you should be fine. just make sure you warm up your engine. if this is a problem and it still gets stuck loosen and i say only loosen the glowplug a bit just so you can relieve the engine from some of the compression.
I am just starting back out in the RC car side of things a had one when I was in school but it’s been a good couple of years since when the engine is run in how long can you typically run them fore before letting it cool down
The Reds carb is composite, but the entire internal assembly is aluminum, including the low speed seat and slide bore is all one piece. I am duly impressed with the quality and consistency of the Reds carb.
nitro james its a team orion, team edition crf .21 with a 2058 mid-high pipe there is also a team edition of that engine that has a few nic nacs here and there that increase power and fuel milage (although physically speaking you can not make an engine more efficient)
I have seen and herd the werks b6 pro engines matched with either 2013 for a smoother power band or 2058 for a bit more on top end power werks pipe I currently run the os .21 xz-b speed spec 2 but really not that big of a jump from the os xz-b max blue head from what ive ran. You will get great torque and rpm out of all the engines i mentioned.
Hey guys, I just got in the nitro Inferno, I was wondering where I can get an electric starter for it? I noticed that you have one on yours. Great videos keep up this awesome hobby!! guys thanks
If you are looking for some wreckless engines to put in a buggy then you can go with. novarossi keep off .21 7 port, orion .21 crf 5 port factory tuned, werks b5 pro, alpha a852 lutz(accidentally put it in the other post should have been the 830 dragon), these are just a few .21 engines there are also a bunch or bigger displacement but if you are going to go racing one of these are the prefered engines. if you are willing though i would totally recommend the os speed .21 it is a bit expensive
Kysho mp9's are very good buggies. People say they are easy to drive. I really like the kyosho mp9. I like the design of it. The only problem is the price. $800+ for the kyosho mp9. But you get a really good buggy.
Do you know if there are any other manufacturers cvds' or driveshafts that fit the MP9? I am looking for other Manufacturers cvd kits or driveshafts from other manufacturers that fit the MP9 wheel axles. Thank you
Are bigger engines easier to tune than smaller engines? I had a 1/18th nitro truggy with an LRP Z1.2S (if that means anything to anyone. Basically tiny!). I tuned it pretty well in the end, but I found it very finicky to get "just right". It made me wonder if the more common size engines are easier to live with?
Kj16V I would say a larger engine is probably more stable on the tune. A small carburetor with bigger machining tolerance probably wont work as well. The .21 size engines are race bred, so the manufacturers spend a lot of R&D time on those engines, and generally have strict quality control.
Ok yeah i will tighten it more thank you for helping me out. Im into this sport two years now and still learning everything i can man i bet ive watched this vid 25 times now i just love the way that thing is tuned is that the 3 port or 5?
depends on how much you wanna spend. if you have the money a os speed or a novarossi keep off .21 7 port would be good. if you wanna get orion get the orion factory tuned .21 5 port. there are a couple others out there but the nova or the speed would be my choice
the stuff around the fuel tubing is heat shrink tube.. we use that in order to keep the fuel line from cutting if someone lands on top of you (affectionately known as waffle stomp). If your filter is leaking, you need to use two pairs of pliers and cinch that dude down. The stuff on the needle housing is silicone sealant.
i dont take responsibility for any damage but i have put a drill on the end of my crank shaft and heated the engine and spun it over until some of the pinch went away. that is the absolute last thing i would do if an engine was to tight. but just be careful if you do it to much you will get rid of to much pinch and thats not good.
What is that around your fuel tubing to keep tight and i noticed some seal around your main needle housing if you dont mind me asking because im getting bubbles before and after the filter thanks.
yeah I saw where he switched pretty sweet looking engine! i gotta ask how do you like the composite carbs because ive always had great results on the full aluminum body carbs or does reds have a full alum carb?
it all depends on gearing and how you tune. if you are running rich your engine wont be able to rev out fully and if you are geared to high your engine wont have the power to drive your car. in my losi 8ight 2.0 with a 14t clutch bell in a race has been clocked at 49mp/h with a 18t clutch bell on the street its hit 65mp/h. here are some engines i would recommend. alpha a852 lutz edition. novarossi plus .21 4 btt/wc, werks b6 pro, orion crf .21 3 port factory tuned or an os max .21 XZ-B blue head
hey, I got a TMAXX 2.5 and I got a perfect tune on it, lots of smoke on top, no bogging, no lack of performance, smoke on bottom end, nice idle, but the temps are just way outa control...the Top needle is at about 5 turns from the bottom and the bottom needle is flush with the housing and slightly more rich, car RUNS great, but the temps are always around 250-280...I dont know what Im doing wrong, when I richen it to bring them down, the engine bogs down and garbles fuel and stalls alot, cant even idle without stalling, so if I put it back to factory, its too lean, so I richen back to my settings and the bad temps come back...
Nice vid man, I've always thought those engines look like a piece of art (never got to see one in person yet though) have a few questions about it. How's tuning it, how's it hold a tune, and will it fit on a Revo with slight modification or does Team Orion make a engine for the Revo?
buy the Os that is made for a revo. It will cost the same. Not to mention that Orion does not make a traxxas fitting engine. the Os is a direct drop in and tunes better then any engine on the market
You guys inspired my interest in tuning, car sounds swwwweeeet. Have a look @ my vids and let me know what you think of my Hyper SS nitro buggy I am still tuning and breaking in
hey paul old post i know but one of the best if not THE best nitro engine tuning videos out there still!!! I was just wondering what the shock piston/oil/ bladder settup yall are running in this video because this is a very similar style track I run and I'm driving myself bonkers on to trying different oils and pistons Im currently running front 1.3 8 hole kyosho pistons with associated 42.5 oil and rear 1.4 angle 8 hole pistons with 32.5 wt associated oil.
Hi im new in rc nitro car hoby.i just bought habao hyper 7 tq2 and is a real pain in the ass to start.I saw on internrt starter boxes and i would like to know do you need to replace the pull start system with soomethig or i just leaved there.(i have COPS start system)
hi dudes thanks and congrats to ur work. keep rocking... pls clarify me how to tune my nitro buggy to high speed,im using novarossi pro engine with 4.5cc,scale:1/8 buggy.
I took my ansmann out for a run on some dirt today, and when i break it cuts out and its not running right but with everything i know on a rc car thats one thing i dont know how to do (tuning)....
I am using in my Truggy a .21 3p turbo buggy engine, and he is not getting higth Rpm fast like i want. I use 13/46 gear, should i put a 12t clunch bell will help.?
I notice 90% of videos never tell how to set up the carburetors from closing the high speed and the low speed all the way in and detailing how many turns out the carb should be to get a base to start with from scratch.
hi a just bot a novarossi 4t buggy and am having problems starting it the piston keeps jamming and at top dead center almost like its ceasing up av ride every fin av bean told still not a bull to turn it over any fine you could suggest fanks would be gratefull ..............James
Hello everyone, im a owner of a new nitro rc turnigy and im new on this , yesterday i broke the suspension with minor accident, my question is : the quality of these RC re to weak? or something? .. i have 2 buy another suspension ? ... its just a hobby 4 me, not for race. thx !
the buggies are a delicate balance of performance and durability.. the plastic suspension pieces are not too expensive, just order the parts and fix it.. have fun! :)
that particular pipe was the Orion 2058.. it works well for that engine, and it's EFRA legal for use in Europe or International competition. The bigger horsepower pipe is 2013.
Thanks for the positive feedback. Please tutor me on doing tutorials. I’m sure we can do better if we work together. I want to live up to your expectations. People tell me all the time this is the best tuning tutorial they have ever seen, so just think what we can accomplish together! Maybe make the best video of all human existence!!!
actually if you know how to tune the a race engine, not an RTR, you'll understand his tuning style. Temp gun is only for reference. Most of the time it is your ears, fingers, and how it runs. The engine will give you a lot of hints. you can have an engine that shows high temp even higher than suggested operating temp, but it immediately idles totally fine smooth without delay once you let of throttle. In this case you can ignore that high temp. On the other hand, you can have a very bad tune but totally ok temperature. I'll tell you, most amateurs struggles how to break in properly and tune an engine so it idles low and smooth.
I learned 100% more about RC cars in the last few hours than I did in 60 years.👍
I love that you guys are having a blast doing your hobby and showing people how to make their machines the best. Your machine is running super smooth and you are the best in your trade. I’m sure people are looking up to you.

We need more of this now ASAP
Let's get it going

sweet cant wait to see this thing in action during a race good luck to Cody at the races hope i can watch one in person someday.
Excellent tutorial. Very simply laid out.
Brushless has it place as well as nitro, gotta have both :)
Nitro =sound, smell and better feeling of a 'proper model'
Electric= quiet, clean, convenient and relatively hassle free
Car sounds awesome dude well done!!!!!!!!!!!!

How can you tell what year your vehicles are? I know they are between 2000 -2006
I'm not sure what make they are either.
I inherited them.

thanks for the reply I'm sure you are pretty busy hope yall are having some good races.
basically you adjust the screws to get the best performance but at a optimal and stable temperature jfc.
I am just starting back out in the RC car side of things a had one when I was in school but it’s been a good couple of years since when the engine is run in how long can you typically run them fore before letting it cool down
Craig Woodgate when tuned right you can run all day. You will need to charge the rx battery before worrying about the engine.
WOW that thing's a beast!... Nice track too, I dig the big jump.
The Reds carb is composite, but the entire internal assembly is aluminum, including the low speed seat and slide bore is all one piece. I am duly impressed with the quality and consistency of the Reds carb.
not to mention the mp9 design has not changed a whole lot from car to car because its platform is just so stable and so proven.
Thanks for the tips, that car has way more jam than mine and a good driver doesn't hurt, lol. Cheers
well there went that piston and sleeve cx
nitro james its a team orion, team edition crf .21 with a 2058 mid-high pipe there is also a team edition of that engine that has a few nic nacs here and there that increase power and fuel milage (although physically speaking you can not make an engine more efficient)

Thanks for the info. Having trouble starting up my losi nitro truck. Might be the glow igniter. It''s a cheap one and doesn't seem to hold its charge

thank you for the video made it so easy to tune my nitro buggy.
My first tune took me 30 min. :D

I've got some questions to ask I've got the same engine as yours?
Metro Demon is that your question? Maybe you have the same engine?
Vrcmag what engine does that buggy have
I bought a used Ofna lx with k4.6 engine. The buggy couldn't run on grass at all, it lacked power. On pavement runs fine. I dont know whats wrong😭
What is that around your fuel tubing to keep tight and i noticed some seal around your main needle housing if you dont mind me asking because im getting bubbles before and after the filter thanks.
keep going doing a nice job

Traxxas fuel may be part of the problem. If you are using there fuel. They use crap to make there fuel. Try a different brand.
im using byron ._. the good stuff, I dont touch their Traxxas shit fuel
how many laps at high speed and at low speed you on this engine ? has the same engine myself
I used to read Word Up magazine, but know I only read Velocity RC Magazine.

Braaap. Do a vid on the r5t my next beast
Nice vid. Hi lm looking to buy a new kyosho mp9 tk13 never own one before. Are kyosho buggy any good any help or tips please.
hey paul old post i know but one of the best if not THE best nitro engine tuning videos out there still!!!
We use 1.3 x 8 straight hole pistons front and rear, 650 front/450 rear kyosho oil
PKpopdU
Do you uses.. the White or Black 1.3 8hole piston
nitrosomniak do 1.3 x 8 hole pistons all the way around with 37.5wt in front and 35-32.5 in the rear with associated oil
nitrosomniak with light blue springs and maybe orange in the rear
fanks pall thats wat a dun but fanks for the help mate cheers a got the engine going runs well
Can't wait hit ill I get mine 2morrow I ordered 1 day ago the same one for 650$ omg
Trust me, you did not get the same buggy. It might look like it and have the same name on the box, but it's not the same.
what are those shock absorbers like the screw ones cuz i have the ball one.
and i wanna get the screw one but i dont know what it is called
Hi im new in rc nitro car hoby.i just bought habao hyper 7 tq2 and is a real pain in the ass to start.I saw on internrt starter boxes and i would like to know do you need to replace the pull start system with soomethig or i just leaved there.(i have COPS start system)
yes.. it's good. We only use it for the first few tanks to get the initial polish on the piston sleeve, then it's up to you if you want to use it..
Does it sound like it's rich? Leave the ignitor on while you get it going.
Great guide !....thanks very much
hi dudes thanks and congrats to ur work. keep rocking... pls clarify me how to tune my nitro buggy to high speed,im using novarossi pro engine with 4.5cc,scale:1/8 buggy.
yuvaraj shankar lean it out more for more top end
Great information.
I took my ansmann out for a run on some dirt today, and when i break it cuts out and its not running right but with everything i know on a rc car thats one thing i dont know how to do (tuning)....
Any tracks for nitro in northern California can't find anything
Need help with my Traxxas nitro rc
Dude i cant even get my losi 8 to idle without the glow plug heater on it. What is going on?
I am using in my Truggy a .21 3p turbo buggy engine, and he is not getting higth Rpm fast like i want.
I use 13/46 gear, should i put a 12t clunch bell will help.?
ueiger CHAVES it sounds like the spur gear is too small.. switch to a 50T spur. 12 tooth bell is not the best option.
tearing it up that is a fast buggy
What would u two recomend for a beginner 4 wheel drive buggy
Great guidance -thanks!
I notice 90% of videos never tell how to set up the carburetors from closing the high speed and the low speed all the way in and detailing how many turns out the carb should be to get a base to start with from scratch.

What's the song at the end?!?
got my first nitro car and as soon as i start it engine it accelerates without me touching the throttle how do i fix this?
is your trim set right?
Or the bottom end is to lean or the idle gap is wrong
