  • The National Science Foundation Office of Inspector General reviewed 134 plagiarism cases involving 137 researchers against whom NSF made findings of research misconduct. The goal of this webinar is to provide insight into plagiarism as it relates to NSF-funded research and to offer plagiarism prevention strategies to educational institutions based on our experience investigating plagiarism allegations.
    This webinar discusses the findings of our review including the most common reasons the researchers gave for their plagiarism. Strategies for plagiarism prevention that institutions should consider implementing in the areas of institutional culture, training, support, and document submission are also discussed.
    Learning Objectives:
    Understand the mission and operations of the National Science Foundation (NSF) Office of Inspector General (OIG) and its Division of Research Integrity and Administrative Investigations.  ​
    ​- Detail NSF OIG’s observations regarding the researchers against whom NSF made research misconduct findings, their acts of plagiarism, their reasons for plagiarizing, and the actions NSF and their institutions took against them because of their actions.​
    ​- Consider institutional strategies to help prevent plagiarism.
