I realize that this is from 2015 but you guys are good. you know your technical stuff and the humour is way above and beyond 99% of the videos on youtube...
A job well done :-D
You just dont realise how bad the pads are untill you compare them to new ones, a massive difference!!.
Leaving your mistakes in the video is really good, the viewer remembers the mistake and doesnt make it, its all learning, its all good :-D
zx8401ztv Thanks so much for your comment and you are absolutely right. We have a video coming out today on a timing job for a Chrysler Jeep, 4.7 V8 engine and the poor guy paid over $3,000 to have someone do the exact job once. He made a few simple mistakes, that ended up causing the timing to slip and bend a bunch of valves. Had he watched someone else do it, I'm sure that it would have saved them alot of heartache and that is exactly why I do these videos. I try to simplify the process and help people out. Plus, its cool to make mistakes because nobody likes that guy that ALWAYS gets it right the first time..lol!!
great video, thank-you. for anyone who cares, the lug nuts are specified to 87 ft. lbs. I have learned the hard way never to assume it is around 100 because having drilled out lug bolts for broken nuts I am telling you, don't over-torque!!!
Helpful for a 2010 vw beetle!! Remember caliper grease! Whoever change the brakes on my car before me (it’s only been mine for a year) didn’t use caliper grease and I had to smack the calipers off off with a rubber mallet.
Judging by the sirens in the background, it sounds like a pretty safe neighborhood. Where is this? Waterloo Iowa? LOL! J/k thanks for the info.
Thank you for posting
Thank u guys. That was helpful.
Just 1 thing, place a oil matt under mastercylinder and take off the cap before compressing caliper pistons. Mastercylinder will over flow most likely. FUN
Thank you you made so easy to understand
Thanks pretty easy job
Nice video! Thanks
Nice job thanks
Super helpful thank you.
I THINK U ARE FUNNY AND VERY HELPFUL KEEP GOING
Looks like those old calipers could do with some fresh O-rings and some grease as well. Thanks for the video, got my daughter a bug like this and I will probably need to do the same soon. Might throw in some fresh discs too.
Thanks great video I like the way you get up close to the parts and that way you can see what's going on a big thanks I will subscribe 🇬🇧
very helpful video. Can u plz list the tools u used? i want to attempt this soon. thanks!!
what was the footpounds you used for when you torqued the pins back in
Mine started making noise 1 day ago and boom , done. They went out SO FAST at the end. Gave no time to make arrangements. Guess I'll be doing mine tomorrow.
@The March Hare, unfortunately, that isn't uncommon on the VWs'. It sucks!
Do you have any suggestions as far as putting the bracket back in to hold the brake pads I’ll see only thing I missed in the video I have a Mexico model so maybe it’s different I just can’t remember which way they went in but they are on the outside holding in the clip like most vehicles
I put new pads and rotors on front and pads are scraping on rotor even when brakes arnt pressed. Need new calipers too or could it be something else!? Thank you.
Excellent work - I like to add copper paste to stop that screeching sound.
+mack man tks i will try that
when you're taking out the adjustments pins what size are they?
7mm Allen for the FS III front calipers (same as in this video)
Thanks for the taking the time to make a tip and we appreciate it thank you
Nice question.
Crist almighty. Hammer down and letter swing lmao
Lol
Lol
Thank you for using O'Reilly Auto Parts, but those pads are junk. They'll get you by, I reckon!! And you need to turn the rotors.. Lol. I understand some customers are cheapskates..😂
Thanks for the video😊
Who gives a fuck. You buy brembo for your 98 lol
I tired it got everything on, pumped the brakes an it builds up pressure but when i put it in drive, the brakes don't work
My abs and epc lights on I have to jump off every time it will go a mile or two and cuts off I have to get jumped again. I have new battery and alternator it still does the same the new battery and alternator got me 2 miles from the shop it has dead battery
On my New Beetle you have to wind back the brake pistons with a special wind back tool which rotates and compresses at the same time.
yeah , i have that tool because alot of cars now use that method, i tend to use long nose vice grips
for rears
On this Beetle too, but only on the rear breaks.
Thanks Jamie. I'm getting ready to do this on my daughters Beetle. Great video as I was curious about the cable coming off of that front drivers side pad. Well done.
the way i see it your old pads you compared have a quatter left at least! and separation your wife is pointing out ? if people clean their break pads once a year and greas pins! they could post pone your video for while!:)))
Do you still have this car and what year is this car
Seems to me it was like a OORO one
Get you an electric ratchet. Saves time bro. Also caliper compressor kit.
No grease. On the boot :( lol oh well getter done :)
Living on the edge lol
whats the year?
+Harley Quinn I think that was around the 2000
17mm....so i guess that's like an 11/16" ?? Sorry i'm a red blooded Murican & i hate metric conversions, hahah! God Bless ya, brother!
Nicholas Dobos I prefer metric.. Lol
It's a German car. Built in millimeters
THEM BRAKES HAD 30000. MORE MILES,,
You’re not supposed to use C clamps on Volkswagens. There’s a specific caliper tool that rotates the piston in as it decompresses
That is on the rear that it turns back .and it is called a Disc Brake Caliper Wind Back Tool .
