I remember these sorts of laptops costing $150 just 10 years ago, back then too a feature phone would’ve been a grocery store BlackBerry. Oh how times have changed
@@lapielazoolie this does cost $150 normally I just got lucky, would rather use a blackberry then a iPhone I am going to make a video on one as soon as I can get one they are super expensive now
@Tech86807if you want something budget go for a Curve 8520. LPCWiki has some blackberry phones listed, I contributed to it myself. Though the 9900 is the best one you can get if you wanna stick to feature/dumbphones
i think the mouse is supposed to sound like that, its quiet as to not annoy your coworkers and such (probably so parents dont go crazy with kids clicking while playing with it)
Why is your voice and the atmosphere of the video so endearing? 6 seconds in and I already have a feeling this video is going to be great and that you might be a good person irl. 😅
Definitely a good laptop for kids, I had a similar one when I was younger which had an Intel Atom but the battery life was so good although the charger was soo tiny - my father's shaving machine's charger could power it xD. Had some good memories with it. Although it has only 64 gB, the EMMC storage smashes HDDs. But for $30 that's a steal. My laptop came around 100 USD or 10k INR
I was using a 32gb chromebook right before this so it felt like a upgrade I could actually fit games on the internal storage and windows it so much better with stuff like this. on chromebook there is no way to use a SD card for installing steam games and there is no trouble on windows
That B E Z E L though! but that's cool it's a full blown little PC for $30 brand new. It does raise the question of build quality though, the prospect of the battery going KABOOM due to a cheap BMS. That performance isn't bad at all considering what you're paying! I did once have the Aspire D250 and I was able to run Garry's Mod on there, mostly an empty Flatgrass instance, trying to do much beyond the bare minimum then it would absolutely CHUG. The D250 is only good for word processing or light emulation today, an offline machine. A laptop like this would be a wonderful dedicated machine for keeping notes, bills and stuff like that you wouldn't want on your main PC or phone. I'd install Linux on that, Libreoffice and that's what I'd use it for, to hold sensitive information I'd rather keep offline! Especially with it being starved for storage under Windows!
@Tech86807 Hmm, that's unfortunate. I'd imagine the way the audio is confugired on that laptop is likely some hacky method. but for my use case if I had one of those it'd just be a digital typewriter lmfao
This was the first UA-cam video I watched in 2025. Good stuff. I'm a big fan of chill people presenting cheapo tech that's surprisingly pretty good. Question: I watched the video and read both the description and your other comments so I know this unit is unbranded and was a one time deal from Mercari. My question is; when you go into the Device Specifications under System Settings is there any name or model number for this unit listed there that one could plug into eBay or equivalent? Thank you and Happy New Year.
I did some searching for you and this best fits the HP Stream 11, but it seems that the ram can be upgraded... but it'd still be nice if a link were around to help solidify of how this laptop can be a near equal to an HP Pavilion laptop I have but haven't bothered to putting it up for repairs (next time it seems that I have $100 or so to spare I should get my Hp Pavilion model 15 notebook laptop to a place for repair)
Chuwi makes the minibook series with 8 and 10 in screens and an Intel n100. Currently the 10in version with 12 gb ram 512 storage is $355 (normally 400)You might have doubts but they actually have good low-medium budget laptops! I think they are a contender for modern netbooks!
If you like smaller laptops, I’d suggest getting a Panasonic Let’s Note laptop. They’re modern laptops with decent specs, the one I own has an 11 inch display, an i5, 4gb of ram but they can be found with better specs all around!
so far this would be a Nice option of keep electric usage down If I am going to play something light and have my gaming laptop off... this'll also replace this Dell Latitude I have that runs Win XP
It literally says "netbook" on the package and the system looks like it was made by Nerf. What do you think? Anyway, enjoy your scintillating game of 3D Space Cadet Pinball. Or maybe Minesweeper, if that's too demanding.
i can tell u that the black laptop u had on the side can be fixed with linux, if you want windows necessarily windows 7 can we an option but the main thing ( and i hope that possible ) is to install an ssd at least because that i believe the thing that will make that type of laptops 10 times faster besides the ram upgrades
This is better than the Chromebook I had in high school which has 4gb of ram and struggled to load webpages. Why don’t schools buy these. They are cheaper. The Chromebook costs 200 bucks even with enterprise deals and this costs 30? And runs windows and is better
if you could get a "laptop" with n4000 series pentium it could be even better but i doubt pentiums were used in anything with passive cooling since all those atoms and celerons were heavyly tpd limited, (you can cpu swap celerons with pentums though if you crazy enough) but also all of those soc's have 2 channels for memory but none of the manufacturers ever uses both , but since you have 6gb of ram it sounds wierd. 2gb onboard and 4gb stick? but does it run in pseudo dual channel or did they stuff all memory into one channel?
If I can game on an old 2000 Centrino with 512mb of ram Iam pretty sure you can ~ Indie games aside (stuff like Shotgun King: The final checkmate or holocure) Its safe to say your laptop can game "up to" 2008 releases Left 4 Dead maybe?
I still using idepad 110-14IBR celeron N3060 (can't upgrade ram) it sucks to be windows laptop I'm installed phoenix os original 32bit lollipop (32bit nougat is sucks because it has wifi bug), running smoothly and I use for android gaming laptop it's good for medium android gaming like CSR2, Real Racing, asphalt 8
balkan yeah local customs will likely charge you import for it! they'll think $30 is a fake price and freely estimate it's worth at least $500. so they're going to charge you customs fees and local vat so it will no longer be $30
This feels like a video from 2010. I love it.
Hardware definitely has 2010 performance.
@@BurningTrapezoid more like 2002
a light weight linux distro will make this really good to use as well

Honestly, for $30 brand new, that's a really good deal. Great for low-end server setups.
This reminds me of the ASUS Eee 900 I bought in 2008 for taking notes in college! Damn so nostalgic. I still have it! :)

The kind of games this hardware would even be able to handle would work just fine under Proton in Steam.
