The remarkable story of Myles Keogh who took his stand with Custer in the Battle of Little Bighorn. Starting his military career fighting in the Papal War he also fought in the American Civil War including battles in Antietam & Gettysburg.
His great nephew Michael Keogh unfortunately saved a 30 year old Adolf Hitler's life and would have left him to die if he had known what he was to become.

This is a fascinating part of history, and as an Irishman even more fascinating to learn that over 100 Irishmen (of a force of over 600 men) took part including Custer's only Irish officer Myles Keogh. 2 Irishmen received the Medal of Honor and close to 20 different nationalities took part in the battle. Myles Keogh's great nephew Michael Keogh who was a German officer in WW1 unfortunately saved Adolf Hitler's Life and later recalled had he known what was to happen the future would have left him to die.

Very interesting, it's incredible to learn how much the Irish influence was as well of other nationalities at this time in US history. I know some say Custer was looking for a big victory before the 100th anniversary of American Independence which was just over a week away at the time.
