Seriously...the ingredients is just breaking down each substance in the flour. Hence the term "enriched" it's basically all the vitamins and minerals by scientific name . Hopefully this simplifies the list for you. Not all of these things are chemical additives. Just informing and enlightening. Have a great day all who read this😋❣️

Yep, folic acid, riboflavin, niacin, and thiamine are B vitamins. Flour was started to be enriched in the US following a rash of vitamin B deficiencies (folate deficiency anemia and neural tube defects), and flour specifically was chosen to be enriched since it's a common part of most people's diet.

      Ascorbic Acid - Vitamin C
      Thiamine mononitrate - Vitamin B1
      Riboflavin - Vitamin B2
      Niacin - Vitamin B3
      Folic Acid - Vitamin B9
      Maltodextrin - vegetable Starch
Maltose - A sugar thats literally found in your saliva
      Sodium stearoyl lactylate
      - an actual manufactured chemical but its "non-toxic, biodegradable, and typically manufactured using biorenewable feedstocks"
Calcium Sulfate and Phosphate are dough conditioners but are commonly naturally found and usually processed from natural sources such as gypsum.
      L-cysteine - essential amino acid
BHA and BHT are both compounds highly similar to Vitamin E. Although they've been shown to cause cancer in rats when exposed to high concentrations, both were considered safe for human consumption by the United Nations Environment Programme, saying that: "BHT is not a genotoxic carcinogen. Carcinogenic effects observed in one long-term study with rats probably were caused by the specific study conditions".

Indeed. The FDA requires that food manufacturers list /every/ ingredient in the food, which can get confusing and weird when you get down to component parts. It's really nothing to be afraid of. It's just /all/ the ingredients -- like what's in wheat flour, just as an example -- in a food product.

If you use the common name for some of those ingredients it might be less scary: Thiamine mononitrate = Vitamin B1, Niacin = Vitamin B3, Riboflavin = Vitamin B2, Folic Acid = Vitamin B9, Whey = the watery protein part of milk (curds & whey), Maltodextrin = processed corn rice or potato starch, Dextrose = corn sugar, Ascorbic Acid = Vitamin C, Calcium phosphate = calcium vitamin supplement (found in milk), L-cysteine = common amino acid (protein precursor) found in many natural foods

Both countries use “enriched what flour” which contains all those enzymes and vitamins like the US does. I hate when people make a reference to "chemicals" in food. (I don't mean you, guy.) It shows a misunderstanding or ignorance of basic chemistry. Everything is a chemical. It also shows they don't understand testing. Additives that "cause cancer in rats" are administered in high doses for a prolonged period. No human would ever consume anywhere close to an equivalent concentration. As with nearly everything else, including water, the dose makes the poison.

    • @willsofer3679

The UK was 7th so technically our food is deemed to be safer and I think part of that is due to the fact that we have laws that require every ingredient whether it’s significant or not to be listed out for consumers to see. Also when the UKs studies say rats let’s remember the dosages that rats are exposed to these chemicals and that their effect on humans is not the same.

Yeah typically here in the Milwaukee and Chicago area, we go by inches. Some of our pizza parlors don't even use the names small, medium, large at all. If you go to one of my favorite local establishments and ask for a medium, they will be like whats a medium? LOL! 😅 But it often comes down to the local establishment. Many of them go by both terms.

Yes its called “pizza cheese”. I think it used to be a mozzarella/provolone blend in the past. I think the regular cookies are a store option in the us, but I’ve never personally seen a store carry them. And hot take of the day is the marbled cookie brownies are not as good as they look. Might get slaughtered for that last one. But overall, the entire menu is good if you get it from a store thats ran well and focuses on food quality.

  • @typicalgay

Tax is never included with advertising in the USA. So a 13.99 pizza would cost you between 14-16 dollars depending on state. Also the 16" XL is only available in the Brooklyn style crust thus the 6 slices opposed to 8

  • @Scott_Burton
    @Scott_Burton 3 роки тому

The US price does not include the tax, because the tax varies by state, county and city, and may or may not apply to food depending on the location. Depending where you are getting your pizza, there may be no tax, or as much as 13.5% tax. Even at 13.5% tax the 7 cents per square inch of pizza ends up under 8 cents.

The enriched flour ingredients are wheat flour, supplemental iron, and supplemental B vitamins. I can't remember the specifics and what applies to whom anymore, but much of the commercially made bread in the US is made with enriched flour to prevent anemia and B vitamin deficiency, both of which used to be widespread and were largely eliminated through this. The remainder of the dough is nearly the same. The 2% that contains things like sugar and dough conditioners are to feed the yeast (the sugar) so that the dough rises more and more quickly and to make the dough chewier. Calcium sulfate and phosphate are common nutrient compounds that help lower pH and ascorbic acid is vitamin C, again, likely added to help the yeast perform fast and well. It's hard telling what enzymes are used but the only thing that's remotely unusual is the sodium stearoyl lactylate, a compound that helps stabilize doughs against mixing. It's a compound that we break down into lactic acid and a fatty acid in digestion (i.e. It's totally safe and edible. It's also used in the UK/Europe.)
None of this stuff has to do with the calories. I bet the big difference is that we use more cheese.

Soooo. I was the manager for a dominos in southern California. This video is wrong... we have individual pizzas and they are 6 inches but we mainly sell them to schools for lunches. The "extra large" in this video is a Brooklyn style pizza and it uses a 10 inch pizza dough that we stretch out into the 16 inch size so it is thin and it is cut into 6 pieces. The normal extra large is 16 inches and is cut into 10 pieces and uses an appropriately sized dough. I also don't know where the American one is, but the price of a normal extra large in socal is 16$ no tax with 1 topping. Another thing I have noticed is that in England they aren't requiring them to put the garlic oil on the crust. Cornmeal is not an ingredient in the dough, it is what we use to make it not stick to the screens we put the pizza on in the oven.

The US price will not usually include the tax.
In Oregon, which has no sales tax, the stated price is the price you pay, not including tip.
In Washington state, which does have a sales tax, the sales tax would be added on top of the base price. Then there's the tip. If you bought a $10 pizza, you might add over $1 in sales tax, and $1.50 - 2 for a tip.

Just for all who are not from the US. What is called as "Sales Tax" is not included in the price however just to confuse you. I will say there are different ways the tax can be implemented depending on how the business in classified in there state. Such as the % of sales to businesses. So if you are selling more to businesses than regular people you may not be charging sales tax. Also where you live you're really familiar with the sales tax % of your area so you can usually predict what it is going to be.

Pizza sizes are a great exercise in understanding geometry. In the late 1980's I had a side job delivering Pizzas for a small local parlor, whose claim to fame was its range of sizes.
They started at 8 inches and progressed in 2 increments to 18 inches - so: 8,10,12,14,16,18. But then it got crazy, because they had 2 more sizes - a 24 inch Pizza, and a 36 inch Pizza!
The 36 inch was as much Pizza as 4- 18 inch Pizzas! They were mind boggling - when served in house, they had to be carried by 2 people.
