Hi everyone, this is ______ from Zoom and I’m here to introduce you to the G3xn and the G3n Multi-Effects Processors for Guitarists. Each pedal comes with an array of pre-loaded effects and patches, as well as faithful recreations of essential guitar tones. Plus, the G3Xn has a built-in expression pedal, offering guitarists even more versatility.
For this video, I'll be using the G3Xn to demonstrate how to use the pedals.
The G3Xn and G3n have a mono ¼” input and stereo ¼” outputs.
With the AUX input, you can play along to backing tracks from your phone, computer, or other music playback device.
Both pedals are powered by the Zoom AD-16 power adapter.
Our free Zoom Guitar Lab software lets you view and download new patches. Simply connect your G3Xn or G3n to your computer via USB..
To access the Tuner/Tap Tempo options, hold the Memory/Stomp Button. Use the appropriate footswitch to select the desired function.
Each pedal has two modes: MEMORY mode and STOMP mode. Press the MEMORY/STOMP button to toggle between modes. When using MEMORY mode, you can switch between different patches. A patch contains a chain of effects. Within a patch, effects can be turned on and off. In addition to using the unit’s preset patches, you can also create your own custom patches.
When using STOMP mode, you can turn individual effects on and off within the different patches.
Depending on which mode you’re using, the pedal’s scroll scroll buttons will have different functions.
When using MEMORY mode, the SCROLL buttons will switch between banks of patches that will appear on the pedal's displays. This will change which effects are available via footswitch.
When using STOMP mode, the SCROLL buttons will change which individual effects are available via footswitch.
Use the MENU button to access general settings and the control knob to navigate through options; press the control knob to make a selection. Options include adding or deleting effects, rearranging the patch chain, or renaming and storing the patch.
To add effects to your patch, press the MENU button and use the control knob to select ADD. If 7 effects are already in use, the ADD option will not be available. Press the control knob to enter the add screen and choose where the effect will appear in the chain. Then use the up and down Type buttons to choose the effect type. Most effects will be assigned to the footswitches while pedal effects will be assigned to the foot pedal.
To re-order your effects chain, press menu, then use the control knob to find the CHAIN option and select it. Use the control knob to highlight the effect you wish to move, then push the knob to select the desired effect.
To exit the add effect screen, simply press the menu button. This will take you back to the home screen.
To remove an effect from your patch, go to MENU then select DELETE.
To edit the name of a patch, go to MENU then select PATCH. Scroll and select to change letters and rename the patch.
To save the patch, go to MENU then select SAVE. You can either overwrite the current patch, overwrite another existing patch, or save to an empty patch slot.
To adjust effect parameters on your G3Xn or G3n, use the knobs below the display for each footswitch. Each category of effects will have different adjustable parameters.
Got a helix which I use with my main band but wanted something small to take along to small gigs and use straight into the PA. This unit is superb! I’ve been a fan of zoom for many years and they consistently deliver. Don’t be put off that it’s low cost. It’s very easy to use, compact and - with only a little tweaking - can stand alongside much bigger units. Buy one now!
First impression after my first night of playing through and tweaking it,- WOW. Powerful, amazing interface, I love this thing!
After having bought G3Xn I can tell you some requests to Zoom to implement in next possible firmware updates or other products.
1) Effects tails (delays, reverbs etc) - need to have option to keep them fading out after changing patch.
2) Looper and Drummachine as effects - ridiculous idea. Need to keep them separate to operate with sounds freely when experimenting with looper. Even my cheapy Zoom G1Xon have them as separate module.
3) Separate Pedal effects??! Why!? I dont want that particular delay to be operated by pedal - I want to choose effect that I want and set pedal to modify any of effect's parameters. Again - Zoom G1Xon have this option.
4) Zoom Guitar Lab - no option to edit efects parameters inside patch?!?! Why? Why previous model G3X have full control of patch effects with Edit & Share software and newer G3Xn doesnt???!!!
how it sounds comparing with g1xon?
Ciro Montaut better in amps and overdrives but worse in effects
I completely agree with all the points you mentioned. In this configuration the G3xn is not an upgrade one can expect compared to the previous G3. It's not logical that Zoom designed a machine like this . I regret having sold my old G3. A new firmware should correct a lot of things.
they took out the usb connectivity too... the "new" g3xn doesn't works as an audio interface device... like the "old" g3x works. There's a lot of people complaining about the XLR out too. Very strange marketing from Zoom.
It's a downgrade from the old g3 it seems this would be the older model no USB recording no software editor functions hidden and having to push combo of buttons simultaneously to get the looper big fail and a shame because the amp sims in my opinion and distortions are excellent
Hey. Do you think it's worth to change my zoom G3X for this one. I'm only going to use the modulations. Effects. Like Phaser. Flanger.. Reverb. Delay etc. Through the loop effect of my tube amp. Cheers
to ZoomSoundLab - Sadly to say, but I was mistaken by your answer about "delay spillover when changing presets" - I was wondering if delay tails still fading out when you change patch. You clearly said "yes", but in fact - no, delay tails cut instantly when you change patch. "Delay tail" option is for keeping tails when you swith delay off inside current patch only. I've bought G3Xn and I'm dissapointed by not having this feature...
Any chance we could get you guys to do a full tutorial on how to use these units. For instance, I don't know how you get to the amps area? This is a very short video and does not provide me enough info to learn how to use the unit. I have a feeling people get frustrated with the complication of these and end up taking them back for refund. These seem very complicated to use. For instance, I see no info about selecting or using amps, cabs or rhythm options here. It's too bad that it appears the Zoom guys that created this video don't look at the Comments and reply!
This is explained at 2:19 - The effects, amps, cabs, rhythm, and looper are all in the effects list. Feel free to email info@zoom-na.com or call (631) 542-5270 with any questions
I'm not seeing rhythms anywhere. I followed the manual step-by-step to no avail. Any help? @@ZoomSoundLab
Hello ZoomLab! G3n is awesome, but then we will get ability to use looper with any another sound and drums?? Fix it pls! We need it!
hello i am facing some volume pedal issue when i am changing one patch to another patch suddenly volume increase 50% to 100% any solution for this please help??
have you found a solution?
I think as far as the pre-sets are concerned, as they are created by different people there isn't any consistency level wise. I think it's a case of going into each patch and tweaking the levels to suit you, and saving those new settings yourself. It's the same problem you get with synths. Some pre-sets are louder than others. Hope that helps.
just got myself a g3n, can i connect a 3rd party expression pedal to control stuff like wah/volume/pitch?
Hello, i need some guidance i can't figure out whether to buy g3xn or g3n I'm not understanding the use of an expression and pedal and if it's gonna be useful for me kindly help me with it.
Hi I just bought the G3Xn and I cant seem to update the firmware nor can I add extracted patches to the Patch Library.
Now I get a notification that there is a new version available but that's it! Why can't you guys include a "DO YOU WISH TO UPDATE - Yes/Later" option along with the notification?!! It boggles my mind that the option to update the firmware within the Lab Interface is not available...When I try to execute the update via the v1.10 updater the only options showing in the drop down menu is my Yamaha AG03 USB interface in both Midi In & Out and a Microsoft GS Wavetable in the Out and regardless of the combination it always results in a "Time Out" error so what is going on? I do not get a USB MIDI DEVICE option nor a ZOOM G SERIES option. Bottom line, your updater does not work for me and I am surround by gear and this unit is the only one giving me grief... Forgive my ignorance but Why are we dealing with MIDI in the first place in order to update firmware when I am USB connected?
So how about posting a HOW TO UPDATE FIRMWARE video for the G3Xn and a HOW TO ADD PATCHES video for the G3Xn...
And please could one of you explain to me how to update because the support documentation has failed me. Thanks!
PS. The Zoom Guitar Lab Reference PDF on your web site is for the G5N and NOT G3Xn but I assume the guide is also applicable to G3Xn.
You can watch our video tutorial on updating the G5n: ua-cam.com/video/w_ekUKha8hY/v-deo.html
The installation process is the same, besides the firmware update file used. If you are still having issues, please contact our customer support for troubleshooting: info@zoom-na.com
Hi thanks for reply. I did watch it and as I wrote in my lengthy and detailed comment, when that update box pops (and when I rescan) I don't get the Midi In & Out options in the drop down menu as shown in the G5n video and the options that are presented (reread my comment) either results in a "Time Out" error or a failed to connect to Midi In or Out.... It is not working as shown in the G5n video! I own several similar and more expensive devices and firmware updates are controlled within their online product interface without having to navigate some popup window looking for a midi in's and out's... and all worked the first time and all have well presented & support details designed for their specific models.
I agree, i had to dig-deep into the manual to find what to do to ready the board for an update (i.e. hold switches 1&2 while power-up). I lost 20min of jam-time, lol. They could've made the info. readily available in the pop-up widow launched from the update-app.
Tried my newly baught g3n today through my pa.
When hitting chords and playing higher strings there was a highfreq hsszz sound when playing my acosim presets.
What is this???
hi....did you ever manage to identify the problem...was it the zoom being too hot
Hi Zoom SoundLab, I have G3XN and I love it. I would like to know if I delete all the effects in a patch and add only Noise Gate, then will G3XN become a NoiseGate pedal.
Yes
This product have a soundcard? Can I use this with the audio interface/mixer?
This is guitar in and audio out to amp or earphones. You would need an audio interface on PC to capture.
@@stephenhookings1985 Thank you. Can i connect this directly to mixer?
please a tutorial that explain how to use looper and rithm simple from zero ..... push this buttom to loop please keep it simple
I just bought this and I'm trying to figure out how to setup cleans and distortions for live shows so I can just stomp to a clean and back to distortion? The manual is kind of hard to understand
just use the clean from your amp and choose a distortion from the zoom.
I figured it out, thanks for the help!
Hello. Does the G3n/G3xn have an acoustic guitar simulation? If they do, is it a high-quality simulation? Also, I've read that the G3n/xn allow a maximum of 7 effects. Do those 7 effects include the amp and cab? Ex: If I have an amp & cab picked out, would I only be allowed to use 5 more effects in the chain? Or if I have an amp & cab picked out, will I still be able to use 7 effects? Thank you!
The G3n/G3Xn does have an acoustic simulator effect. The patch can only be used with 7 effects total, including the amp and cab simulator.
Seeking support or user instruction. I can use individual effects but I'm not able to set up a chain. Once I add an AMP, I can no longer add other effects or pedals anywhere across the bank. Adding the AMP seems to use up all patch resources? I'd be willing to pay for some support time I'm sure if I could ask a few questions I'd get a lot more out of this processor.
Any possible way of recording an audio via this device? if yes, then please suggest some software for Windows 10
No, this pedal doesn't have a build in audio interface.
Thanx @Forgotten|Soldier
Hello need answers can I use ANY POWER SUPPLY as long as it has the same specs of the power supply cable of the G3xn ?
You can recording in PC o Mac With the zoom g3xn in a audio program, like in a g3x??
I have zero information on what the "control in" input on G3n is for. Can someone here help?
Question: Can i plug in the G3XN into my TC Electronics Ditto Looper and finally into the amp, i.e., G3XN --> Ditto Looper --> Amp. Do I need to turn off amp modeling in the G3Xn to do this (since the G3Xn does not have a Sends/Return option)?
Yes, this would be no problem! If you are connecting to an amplifier input, then you will likely want to disable any amp emulation.
Wow this unit is 5 years old already (?)
I got mine 2 years ago or so,... I have only just recently started to utilize it; (long story)
But was wondering if anyone knows , has their been any updates, and what else can you do via the USB attachment ?
Just got a G3xN and when I'm in "menu" mode,
There is no "add" option;
Only ( R to L) ,
Del, chain, patch, save, swap, tuner, setup, ver., And m. Level
This means the patch is full.
@@ZoomSoundLab thanks; appreciate the reply!
I have a Blackstar Id:core which takes pedals well, so i'm considering this....how does it compare to individual pedals? I'm only interested in the fx and not the amp modeling....I'm interested in mainly chorus and overdrives and distortions? would this suit me the best or should I get individual pedals?
Hi, no general "Ampli/Cab" On-Off? Have I got to turn patch by patch? Thanks.
That is correct.
@@ZoomSoundLab
wow... It would be definitively a plus over other brands models having a general option changing "On/Off" for all the patches with one click...
Thanks for answering.
PLEASE MAKE a "G3XN CDR" like ms 70cdr. please!
Hello Zoom Lab, can we send this sound to an audio interface? If yes, how? Can we connect left out cable to an audio interface
You would be able to connect the outputs of the G3n and G3Xn to an audio interface capable of accepting an instrument level signal.
Yeah I've done this before, it works well @Betcha.Cant.Play. these
How do you access the global settings?
Now I know why dudes use pedals. This is mind bending OS
hi. i just bought the g3xn today. i was wondering why the volume on the expression pedal is considered as an effect? does it mean that i can not use the expression pedal as a main volume as well as a wah pedal when it is engaged? or i have'nt figured it out yet. please help.
You will not be able to use the expression pedal as a wah and volume pedal simultaneously.
With the expression pedal I can use main volume
zoom fx are soo good.
where you connect the output to?
Can it be used with a practice amp? I'm new to the digital stuff.
Of course
Good day! Can I connect zoom g3n to zoom g3xn??
can you turn off the amp emulation? Just use it as a stomp box?
Yes, that's how I use it.
I bought this based on great patches but don't use it as I find the instructions user unfriendly! There are no explanations and more detail is needed! Can Zoom revise the online manual please??
For example if I need to use two or three patches in a song can I get to them quickly without having to scroll through (which is not easy in a live situation if they are not side by side in patch list) ?
Thanks
I have the original G3 and it's the same, this is common behaviour for effects like this, you can only scroll sequentially, this is quite obvious. That's why you have the opportunity to switch to the "stomp" mode, so for example if you have a basic sound and you need to change only distortion or another couple of effects, you better use one patch, use stomp mode ad activate the proper effect/pedal on and off.
Por favor mandem uma atualização que possibilite o uso de pedal de volume e wah com o foitswicht do pedal
cant use looper with must of the effects , hope zoom fix that !
on firmware 1.1 they already fix that.
check on their page.
+Andromeda Siddhik
thanx bro
i agree, can't switch patches or you loose your loop. have to work within the one patch and toggle fuzz to play a solo over the loop within the same patch. RP500 can switch between patches.
How to control master volume. There is no master volume knob there
To adjust the master level first press the menu button then use the "Push to Enter" knob to select "Master Level" and open the master level screen. Alternatively you can just turn the "Push to Enter " knob to adjust he level when the G3Xn is in "Memory" or "Stomp" mode.
I think this fits my needs. Gotta have one. I thought I need the G5, apparently not.
I'm in the same boat as you were but 6 years later. The G5 doesn't seem necessary for me and is too large to even fit on my desk or a small table
Does it have a looper?
Super Brian !!!!! How to work with you and Zoom ?
Good day. Sir, can we use an external tap tempo pedal with this guitar multi effect pedals? thank you and God bless😀
No, unfortunately this is not possible.
@@ZoomSoundLab Ow ok. Well, I realized that using it's tap switch in live setting is not really a hassle. Zoom g3n is an awsome pedal. Thank you so much sir. God bless:-)
can i use this padel as an interfave to record??
The G3n / G3Xn does not have an audio interface feature.
is there a headphone output? 🎧
Yes.
If I've messed it up how do I get it back to factory settings
To restore to default settings, simply hold the control knob down, while powering on the device. You will then be prompted with the "All Initialize" screen where you can execute the factory reset.
can you fill all the three displays with any kind of effects you want?
also, can you use 2 modulation or 2 drives at the same time?
Yes and yes!
can you use this as USB midi
There is no MIDI capability.
It have usb interface or not...?
It does not have audio interface functionality. The USB port is used to communicate with Zoom Guitar Lab software.
How To Use 7 Effect Chain On G3xn 😊
Just add 7 effects to your patch!
