Generative Portraits 2 | Creative Coding with Processing

- This creative coding video is the second video on generative art portraits. As the first one, this video is completely made in Processing, including the transitions. The portraits are based on black and white photographs where the code "interprets" the direction and thickness of the strokes. The first video on Raw Generative Portraits 1: • Generative Portraits 1...

Based on the recent comments/likes and positive reception of the first video, I decided to make a second one with the same code but new portraits and slightly different colors. Hope you enjoy it!

So does this mean that the music made the drawing using your high tech methods? Sorry this is such a new art form to me. I just had to ask questions. It is a beautiful creation or creations. Like magic.
The images are based on actual photographs where the code makes decisions how thick the strokes should be and in which direction it should continue the drawing. The music does not have any impact on the drawing itself. I only synchronized within the code the transitions of each portrait to the music... And I always appreciate questions! :)
I love this art. Thank you for explaining it to me. I always want to the what of things. Ha Ha
Awesome!!! I just started processing. I have few questions.
How you identified the shapes of images and edges? How those spirals made the art?
Oh that's a lot of fine tuning.. It all started with a suitable image, it doesn't work with every image obviously. So, I would suggest you to experiment with various images first and then see how your code behaves. After that you probably will also adapt the image to your code.
@@thedotisblack And how do you render? Using "saveFrame" my PC takes too much load
For this one I used saveFrame to make sure that the video is smooth and that I have a constant 30fps. Otherwise you may also record the screen directly with some other software.
Since I know how to use processing, I'm trying to guess how you programmed it, but Im not quiet sure! Nice vidéo :) 😊
Thank you, Joseph! It's not that difficult though, lots of fine tuning but in general it is based on actual photographs. If you have any questions, let me know, I'll be happy to help out.
@@thedotisblack I am trying to do this now. Could you give me some insight?
Hard to give any advice without seeing your code. However, for this particular video, you'll need to work with arrays and images. The strokes follow and change certain values, such as speed, direction and curvature, that are derived from the image of the portrait. Best way is to start with a single stroke and then build up from there.
Nice Animation! I would like to make such animation, would have any recommendation of documentations I would need ?
Hi Emmanuel. Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately, I don't really know any references for this kind of animation.. I made this code myself and improved it over time to achieve these effects. However, you may look into this tutorial to start with: processing.org/tutorials/pixels/
@@thedotisblack Thanks for your response!
im a beginner, and i want to become good as you, what do you recommend?
I my opinion, design skills are more important than the technical skills in writing algorithms. But you should start with the www.processing.org/tutorials and then visit www.openprocessing.org for more examples. The rest is really design.
can you please make tutorial of these art works
that would be really helpful for the beginners like me.
thanks.
Sure, I’ll do tutorials on it.
@@thedotisblack thank you so much, waiting!
Would it be efficient or possible to draw the portraits with code instead of using images?
Hello from México :)
Ricardo, these portraits are made with code but use images as a source to identify the shape. I am not sure what would be most effective, since somehow the code needs a reference of the shape. But I found this image-based approach the most simple and with lots of potential to expand. Hope my answer is satisfying and all the best to Mexico! :)
thedotisblack's generative art or design videos : up the ante, be 3D, add motion to the silouette, change the process, tell a story.
desperate for tutorials🙏
