What I always wondered about in Primal Fear is why does the Ed Norton character confess his guilt to his lawyer at the end of the film?

I think he was saying that he was wondering if his lawyer would catch on. He seems to be a sociopath (Norton), he had to “win.” Him confessing was his victory. And of course for the audience.

It's a movie. That plot twist made that movie. It wouldn't be as great of a film without it.
