From the 9/9/1983 News Journal - Eater's Digest by Otto Dekom:
For a real salad treat, there is La Grande Salade Saloon, U.S. 202, Concord Township, Pa. The restaurant made its fame with the area's most extensive, elaborate and varied salad bar. Even a recent change in chefs has had no deleterious effects on food quality.
A good time to enjoy the lavish offering is at lunch, when the salad bar plus chili con carne and soup are priced at only $4.95.
One recent salad selection at lunch included chopped liver, asparagus, anchovies, two pasta salads, bean salad, pickled peppers, various greens and other raw vegetables, chopped egg and cheese. Dressings were all good.
The hot buffet had the chili and soup, as well as creamed chipped beef and freshly made garlic bread. The cream soup was satisfactory but a little lumpy, while the chili was about as good as any found in local eating places.
There is also a dessert buffet with a good selection of fresh fruit and some cakes. A help-yourself soft-ice cream machine adjoins the buffet. There is a selection of syrups and toppings, plus hot fudge to make a hot-fudge sundae.
