Yeah, anyone trying to speak a language with more sounds than theirs will have to work EXTREMALY hard to sound completely native. I'd like to see a native English speaker sing a Russian song with perfect pronunciation. It's not fair to hold a Japanese speaker to sound perfect signing in English. That being said, he obviously has worked hard to achieve this good a pronunciation and he should be recognized for that.
