Lol
I don't know if you realise but what makes you much better than other woodworkers (apart from the amazing work) is the constant yapping we love it
I was thinking about the other day. Something about the vibe here is different. Like bourbon moth or Keith Johnson feels like if I had enough money I could order a commission but something about blacktail feels like even if I had enough money I would still need to "know a guy" to get a piece. It feels more exclusive for some reason
The dude has a PHD in Yapanese
Definitely not a woodworker
@@saltwaterrook4638 and you definitely don't have a brain
@@saltwaterrook4638 He seems like one to me.
Love how you knew exactly what she would pick but still made all the options so you have fun making stuff.
Hey Cam, I'm a blacksmith and I've worked with damascus steel a bit. One thing that struck me when you said that the Giraffe pattern being disappointing is that all the best patterns in steel are the more symmetrical or ordered ones. I think the style is organic and random enough on its own, so an ordered base pattern tends to look best.
I also have two suggestions I'd love to see you try to mimic: first, feather (sometimes called flame) pattern and second: a mosaic of some sort, the most common being "star", "burst" or "explosion" patterns. I could try to explain these, but I think it's best if you just look them up here on UA-cam.
Great video as always!
All these tables are pretty cool, but 'Islands' is my favourite. Great video.

@@itsROMPERS...Everybody needs money to live. Would be nice if it truly was free in every aspect but it’s the next best thing: being able to make a living while taking money from no one, except the massive corporation UA-cam.
@@itsROMPERS... No shit, Sherlock. Obviously he's making money from views and sponsorships. That's not the point. He's still doing it for people who can't afford it, and he often even donates the extra mowers and equipment he gets from sponsorships to the people he helps out.

I agree 100%
I heard Cam say this and packed out laughing....
Same! The (hopefully not genuine) beef between these channels amuses me more than it has any right to 😂
What I loved most about this video was the way your lovely wife looks at you. It is so obvious that she is absolutely in love with you - and you with her. While your self-depreciating humor makes me laugh, that wonderful love-filled banter between the two of you made my heart soar and brought tears of happiness to my eyes. God bless you both!
This is a hilarious amount of work for what was boiled down into a 6 minute denim sommelier bit. I'm here for it. Dying laughing the entire time. I also spent 6 weeks on a nightstand build just so I could do a post about my SO wanting a One Night Stand for her birthday.

This is honestly so sweet, it seems like you guys have a very healthy relationship! You made a real effort to wow her with the options and some patterns / color combos that you knew she'd like and some you knew she wouldn't, but, ultimately, still made her a top that perfectly suited her taste and respected her decision, despite your own opinions. I got such a kick out of your wine tasting-esque display of the different tops / bases, your delivery was spot-on. And props to your wife for genuinely comparing the different styles in an attempt to find one she would like, even after seeing the oak top ;)
Honestly I love when you went all the way through and the wood is there with the denim

You crack me up! I just realized that you pop into my feed so often that I hadn't realized until today that I haven't subscribed. Fixing that now. My favorite table top was the raindrop--I thought that in the right place it would be stunning.
Obviously there are more of us out here spending more time enjoying your content (including the sarcasm and amusing wife stories) than analyzing where you and she fall on an "SMV chart." And I, for one, appreciate you putting that individual on a pedestal for our collective side show mockery.
You left out the very best part of your first Denim/Epoxy run. When you walked into the shop and there was a new 1/2” thick epoxy floor. One of the funniest moments of any UA-cam video.
For me it’s a toss up between islands and dragons. The whole process is pretty interesting.
Agree! I felt that pain!!!! 😂😂😂
"I can see by your face you're impressed" hahahaha
Dragon!
the guy who asked why she was with him.. its not money.. its how he makes her laugh. she clearly likes spending time with him. i hope i find a girl one day who giggles like that with me :')

I must say that all the samples you provided are of exceptional quality and it's difficult for me to single out one as my favorite. I appreciate the effort and dedication you put into creating each one of them. In fact, I believe all the samples should be showcased to the customers to give them the opportunity to choose the one that resonates with them the most. Love it love it ❤😊
The "Islands" top is my favourite. Beautiful when you showed it as the first option with that base. I also love the foil trial as well.
Mine too. Probably more so for the colors than the patterns tho, tbh.
I work in the paint dept in a big box store, and our record was 52, so your wife is the new record holder. Congrats! Have you thought about painting the wall plaid?
I’m glad to see she wasn’t just a small time regional record holder.
I may have to go and check my local paint store’s record which is in Australia. Your wife might have a international record for the paint sample’s. All jokes aside that is one hell of a record to hold as I’m pretty sure there is a limit to how much you can take in one visit?.
Oh to be clear, she paid for each sample. I think they’re around $4 each. So they would have happily kept selling us more.
Not plaid. You mean mosaic.
@@BlacktailStudio as someone who worked in a paint dept, I would've angrily made all of those samples with a big smile on my face.

Hey Cam, Thanks for another awesome video. I was totally captivated by the production and presentation of the vintages. You and your dear wife have a great story and I wish you many more chapters. Truly appreciate your skill and dedication. Cheers
You have no idea how much I enjoyed this video.
Thank you!
Honestly, that Black & Tan goes perfectly with your furniture and the room position.
It hit home as soon as you lined it up. Feels like a real coffee morning moment captured in a table top.
Great work.
True, I said Dragon but that one did fit the decor very very nicely.
Black and tan but using the Burgundy pattern. That would be perfect IMO.
As an architect, I'd love to see a video tour of your home showcasing all the exquisite woodwork and furnitures, like a parade home display.
Your work is truly commendable! 👏🏻
Me too.
I agree. Your home is a beautiful contemporary and I’d love to see more.
My favourite is the pepperoni pattern with the islands colour scheme. The islands table top went amazingly well with the oak base. Great work! Your wife seemed so happy to have the final piece picked out and in your home.
Same! Pepperoni pattern in the islands color scheme. The blue is nice, but juuuust a wee bit too bright, in my extremely humble opinion.
I love all of your tables you made. I especially love the Island table top. Both stands are exquisite. I like the thin one so the attention stays at the tabletop. Beautiful as always!
Thank you

Thank you and don't stop what you are doing.
Wow all of your work is so meticulously crafted and truly beautiful beyond compare!!! I love your creations as well as your videos!!!
When you mentioned a commenter saying hot people are only with ugly people if the ugly person is rich, I immediately disagreed, because obviously hot people are often with ugly people if the ugly person is funny. Then I saw your face and thought, "how hot is his wife that people think HE is ugly?" And also, "good thing he's not ugly, because he isn't very funny." Then I saw you showing off your creations to your wife and realized you simply save all your comedy for her in particular, and decided I needed to comment to tell you just how cute you guys are together.
Oh, right, your videos are cool too: even though I think I share your wife's taste in furniture rather than yours, it's always delightful to watch and listen to the process, especially as a novice woodworker who's got quite a bit to learn.
I think Cam is quite handsome and I love his voice and self-deprecating humor.
people who don't think Cam is funny are not listening closely enough to the sly jokes and innuendo throughout the video, like around the 13-minute mark. "Think about something else" "I do a practice glue-up by myself" 😂
Modern women belonging mainly to this current generation are kind of a dumpster fire, and one can tell this is true, because they're all over social media, telling on themselves.
They are, to borrow from Rodney Dangerfield in the movie "Caddyshack," "Why tigers eat their young." It really is, frankly disturbing.
One, Cam is not ugly, he's actually quite handsome.
Two, he's only not funny to people who don't recognise humour if it's anything deeper than dad jokes. He's hilarious and does sarcasm well.
@@dlghtfl1100%. As a straight man, even I can see that Cam is hot. No idea what that guy was talking about. And he clearly has no idea who Cam's wife is; she owns a very successful matress company in our area and is literally in the commercials.

Ouch.
I can't remember the last time I watched a video longer than 15 minutes all the way through. This was lovely! Thank you for satisfying my woodshop urges so I'm not tempted to go buy tools again!
When I bought my first (lower range) band saw I had so much trouble setting it up. The saw would swerve everywhere all the time, I even replaced all saw blades with more expensive ones, still nothing, it was horrible. Then I set it up listening to Alex Snodgrass' video and I can now cut consistent veneers down to a quarter of a mm (that's about a 1/64 of an inch I think) on that same band saw no matter what blade I use. I even had to show the shop owner, where I bought it, how I did it. They now refer to that same video for other customers that are having trouble.
Hey Cam! I've got a planer tip for you.
To avoid tearout when planing across the grain - start by feeding the piece about an 3/4 inch through the planer so that it creates a lip. Pull it back carefully. Then spin it around (so the lip is at the back and will go through the planer last) and run it through normally. By doing that you'll essentially pre-cut the layers that will not be supported by layers behind them and thus will blowout if run normally.
An old woodworker with all his fingers showed this one to me. It works like a charm.
How do you feed it in without the first roller grabbing it?
@@heyitsthatdude17 I assume he is talking about using the jointer around the 17:00 mark
Love the denim. How many layers do you use? My wife watched this with me and asked if I could make her one. I am retired educator with minimal skills. Thanks. Love your work. So entertaining.

Thank you, Cam. That was very funny and enjoyable. I’m glad you used the jointer after it was suggested. So much easier and tearout isn’t so bad with a helical head and light passes. The sommelier bit was hysterically funny.

My boyfriend is a huuuuuude denim enthusiast and when I showed him the Damascus denim table, he said he wished you would’ve emulated the wear pattern of jeans more (even though he did think the table was cool still). I think the palm design really hit that nail on the head
Love the "Pepperoni" but I think it should be renamed to "Raindrops". With the white oak base it really made that bright blue pop beautifully.
After staring at these for a bit I think Dragon is my fave. I bet it would look great with a walnut base. Also I like your wife’s favorite base best too.
That raindrop looking top is breathtaking! Though honestly the red-white-blue is the only one I wouldn't immediately jumo at if I had a chance to put it in my home.

Hi Cam,
I just wanted to thank you. I am from Germany and currently in the beginning of my training to become a professional woodworker, and thats by no small part because of your awesome channel and builds. I started at Uni in October '23 studying to become a teacher but it didn't feel right. Decided to look into woodworking and stumbled upon your channel, wich really helped deciding that this is my way to go forward. I've probalby watched most of your videos at least 5 times if not more, i love seeing woodworking, love english and to be fair, german woodworking channels are just mostly boring explanations or reviews, no entertainment.
So yeah, long story short. Thank you so much for helping me finding my way in life, finding my passion. And for making everyday just that little bit better and enjoyable. Love your work.
Was surprised at how much I loved the blue pepperoni design on the thinner table base!!! It turned out to be my favorite but I also loved the tan islands as is and the black and grey color palette, plus the dark denim you both liked :) awesome video as always!!
This is my first time viewing your channel and it was most amusing. You made so many beautiful things too! I too like the white oak with the small base. But .......I also like the "rain" blue one with that base. She appears to like delicate things. Your interaction was priceless. Thank you so much for showing all the work you put into these and even your mistakes. I will be back😁
One wine maker mentioned the "mound of despair" the dimple in the bottom of hand blown bottles that ensure they can stand up; it was the mound of despair because you thought there was a full glass left, but there wasn't. this seems similar to cutting grooves in the bottom to help it lay flat.
In case of wine bottle it helps their structure.
I was in aerospace composite fab/layup for a few years. I would suggest if you're going to have a bag that big you should have multiple vacuum ports. Also you want something like non perforated a5000 and breather rope and you want the breather mat to cover the entire interior of the bag to help with even circulation. Also, if you want your plies to be really tight and strong to the mold. Less resin. I recommend a couple of compaction steps in between a handful of lay ups.
I'm a little dusty on the info as it's been about 3½ years. Our process was nice and tight as it was or aerospace control surfaces (some of the highest stressed components). I wouldn't mind sharing more suggestions or bounce idea, trouble shoot issue, etc.
I want to see blacktail testing mythbusters episode!
The black/tan color pattern on the islands top is by far my favorite color combo (I'm a sucker for "Naturally Plausible" colors, though the colors on patriot and black & gray would be a good 2nd and 3rd to me. Pattern wise, as much as I HATE paisley on fabrics, the paisley pattern is pretty awesome, dragon and islands coming in at 2nd and 3rd.
Been watching your stuff since you first popped up on my youtube, and I gotta say how much I love seeing your content. I recently got to see an antique table with a dark finished wood that had green marble and white marble inlaid into the wood, and I immediately thought of your videos and I'm hoping to get to make something similar to it in time, and I feel like your channel has so many GREAT ideas for how to accomplish it.
I, too, have been a practitioner of the solo practice "glue up". Definitely a game changer.
Really liked the video. As a married man, it felt good to see that with time you get to know your wife and before she chose the table top you already knew what she would prefer.
I liked the dark denim
The underside
Now hear my out … when you took them out of the vacuum bags around 9:40, there was a quick glimpse of the plywood on the bottom. If you used hardwood for a pattern, that could be sanded down for a wood “inlay” look. 🤷♂️

Yeah, you got that right. I feel like a welcome guest rather that just a viewer whenever I watch this channel
I've always appreciated your channel for myriad reasons. But this video confirmed for me that you stand out for your humor and script content. Your self depricating humor and tongue in cheek dad jokes are awesome.
the colour on Islands was really cool and matched the chairs super well.
Islands is my favorite. I'd love it in my house with the same base that your wife prefers please. Thanks. Excellent work as always sir
Highly underrated jokes at 13:30 - "Practice glue up by myself" 😂😂😂
Came here to say this, thank you. Especially when you are going to be working with special batch of wood...
Agreed 🤣🤣🤣🤣
