Excellent review. Since NewAge recently made a version 2.0 of BumbleBee, it's not out of the question that after milking the H27 mold, maybe in a year they'd make a H27 2.0 version of it that resolves the deficiency in the design like a bigger trailer and increase its size by 5 % more. Honestly I'd like a supersized version of the H27. If NewAge can make the H27 Ultra Magnus, they can make an H27 Power Master Optimus Prime with an upgraded trailer similar to how Magnus integrates to his trailer. I'd rather have a backpack like PowerBaser Prime than a pregnant G1 PowerMaster Optimus Prime that's similar to Magnus' power armor. IMO, the H27 is more designed for Magnus than Prime's release.

Newage Prime is personally my favorite. His robot mode proportions match up closer to the cartoon design compared to MS and I prefer to more MP44 style truck. However that's just me
@@Anduril1974 it just depends on the person, to my eye Newage's stuff always seems more accurate. They have more "anime" proportions to me which I think matches more
I spent a couple of hours watching your videos. You might be my favorite reviewer. Your cinematography is top notch and does nothing to help my plastic crack addiction.
I really like how that this version Optimus has Starscream's head and shoulders as I remember seeing that episode on Hasbro's UA-cam channel, and Screamer did a pretty good job posing as Optimus.
I'm really torn on these 2 figures - I like the Magic Square robot mode better (as it matches my MP-44), and I prefer the NewAge alt-mode (as it's a better looking truck). Great video, as always...thank you!!!
I think it's worth pointing out that magic square is very likely to release a metallic/painted version their B46, much like what they did with their first attempt at a legends scale prime. I'm personally waiting for that version of the mold.
I like the new age proportions better. The head size and slim arms looks more proportional to human standards (not saying that's required, but it's more aesthetic to me). I love the longer looking legs too. 46 looks like his head shrunk while bench pressing cybertron.
New Age has made many great figures recently and some are just more superior than MS, but in some cases, like this, in my opinion, MS wins this round. I love both companies, in fact I build my collection based on which character looks the best between the two companys. Like, I have MS Megatron leading NA star scream and constructicons. To me, I have no sides, but only when it comes to the look and the playability of the figures.
Can't agree more. I see fans invested too much, sometimes even themselves into a brand, clouding their judgement and missed what it is supposed to be, the fun of these toys. I only collect legend scale figures causally, and missed a lot, should take a look at MS Megatron.
If I had known about these figures much earlier I would have based my collection on these. I have the original Hasbro ones; but for size, beauty and looks, these are much better.
I don’t like newage as much for a few reasons. 1. The vehicle, robot and paint. -• the robot mode mold seems to be based on g1, being retooled for the EX version. With that being said, he has a semi realistic paint job and an attempt at a realistic truck mode. The robot mode is great (minus the chest) but the paint isn’t cartoony, and the truck is a bit disproportionate and doesn’t show up in the robot much, so you get a decent robot mode and truck mode, with the paint only really fitting the truck. If they focused on one or the other (realistic vs cartoon), I bet it would look great and more solid imo. David normally is kinda disappointing, but the EX version is awesome, and I haven’t seen many figures as commuted to the toy look as this retool/recolor. 2. The faux chest -• this guy is similar to MP-44 because of its proportions and lack of real parts. The chest is fake, and its sacrifice doesn’t seem as worth it for the robot mode’s gap in the chest. That’s not what I look for in a transformer. Although the rest of the figure isn’t bad at all, it just has some weaknesses that stop me from liking him so much. Newage has some great other figures like agamemnon and black rain. However I did read a comment somewhere here that said newage falls behind because it was optimized for octavian, not david, so they made trade offs for a good octavian. I think for that, newage gains some extra points. As a whole company too, they have the better repaints and retools, and the EX figures look phenomenal.
Yeah.. those are the things that disappointed the fans. I went for EX because I was just so keen to have a modern rendition of the G1 toy, and it fits the bill. But the paint chipping is just so annoying, so I went for 27F, as a transformation double, and it's okay for the price. And I agree, this is very much designed for the Ultra Magnus release, not quite for Optimus, maybe there is another version of Optimus from NewAge down the line?
It's a separate 5 dollar purchase for the bay, most stores who carry B46 have them, but sold separately for the production issue. Yeah, that's a new trick I just learned to help viewers to navigate through the video, hope it's useful.
Magic Square probably is not going to do it but I would love to see them making the G1 toy accurate version just like David 27EX, that would look amazing
Just got the newage h27 and I absolutely love him. The 1 I got doesn't have the metal spine but I still love him...them...I actually bought 2 from Ebay on sale. Now...I wanna get this dude. Lol
B46 is the better option for me looks like the G1 show in vehicle and robot and saturated colors reads well, especially with the Nylon. #Hasbro #Takara
Its a crime against God we didn't get a masterpiece scale version of these... INCREDIBLE FIGURES, BETTER THEN ANY OTHER OPTIMUS, THESE ARE THE 2 BEST, NOTHING GETS THESE MANY THINGS RIGHT!
Interestingly enough, the G1 cartoon Prime truck doesn't have a silver/grey stripe on it. Never actually realized it because I'm so used to seeing it on toys.
I finally got MS Prime!!! 😁 It's so good that I had only one problem with the heads not being removable, but I was able to pop the heads in and out several times, and now my problem is gone. No breakage, not much paint chip, and so much fun. It's truly just Prime. 😀 And Optimus Legends, thank you so much for your seperate MS Prime video, it helped me a lot to transform the figure the first time.
Nice vids anyway @optimus legends do you think there will be bigger scale like earthrise scale of this G1 accurate model? I really like MAGIC SQUARE but i find the scale small
I remember when you reviewed the magic square Optimus, he didn’t have the Bay station but now you have it? Because I bought the no-bay version day 1 and I want to know where to get the Bay
Hi Knight, it's a separate 5 dollar purchase, it's available at most stores who carry B46, they just sell them separately for the production issues on the repairing bay.
For me its Magic Square B46. It’s the action poses…I don’t like the look of the David when looking down from the top. The chest makes a weird line right under the chin. Love the clean look of B46!
That kamehameha pose though. Never knew I needed to see that. They both look great but I think personally for me Magic Square has the better figure. Might get that sometime. Edit: Upon further viewing, the NewAge figure does have positives too. Kinda wish we could combine the positives to get a figure with the best of both.
I've been waiting on Magic Square to get B-46 back in stock and they finally did. Ordered immediately as I love the toon accuracies. I have the Masterpiece scale of Optimus Prime and Nemesis Prime as well and they're fantastic. This little guy is just as good but way smaller and with a trailer. I love NewAge version, especially the premium look and paint but that chest kills it for me. That's probably the only reason I didn't buy him. A year later and now I have NewAge David and sold my Magic Square. The plastic was just so flimsy that it felt very cheap. Still think MS does it better but chose the premium quality of NewAge over accuracies and cheap unpainted plastics.
B46 is my second Magic Square figure, I used to collect NewAge without a second thought, until MS Hound came out, masterpiece mindset for designing legend scale figures.
aside the knee joint i greatly prefer magic square over new age Knee joint of b46 make the leg look like it break in half really wish they make mp scale to fix this problem Oh i think if they go for extreme cartoon arcurate they can remove some truck detail to get a cleanner bot mode
I guess in legend scale it will be rather difficult to manage a better sculpt for the knees, and agreed, by scaling up, there should be a better solution. Not sure how many repaint would come out, they are sharing the same mold and truck details I guess.
If it wasn’t for magic square’s plastic, I’d pick Magic Square’s offering over Newage. But as long as they continue with this plastic and that finish, I’m always gonna choose Newage over Magic Square.
For my money I split the difference. Got the regular h27 and also bought ms46b scourge to get the best of both worlds. Plus the antagonist aspect of it all.
NewAge's toy deco is superb. Just gorgeous. Magic Square's is definitely better on the cartoon side. Legends scale collectors continue to win in either case here.
Very true, I just realized it only recently as I was reviewing these legend scale figures, that we could get back to the fun we used to have when we were kids playing with transformer toys, we never cared about paint chipping, we didn't have to pay extra attention and try not to break this delicate piece, we know nothing about engineering or materials, we just fumbled with this thing, flipped between modes and had fun. A huge difference between collecting MPs and legends.
I don't know about anyone else, but I'd go with magic square MS-B46 Optimus. He's cleaner, and more cartoon accurate. The new age on the other hand is just ok. To many gaps in vehicle mode and the foe chest wind shield is my biggest grip. And its not as clean in robot mode as magic square B46. The things I do like about new age is the paint detail and new age did go for the traditional 80's G1 look. But all in all I prefer the magic square B46.
I have all of the Newage prime versions and ultra Magnus recolours, and I just bought the Magic Square Nemisis v2.0. I have to say Magic Square wins this one for me. First of all, for cartoon accuracy, there is no comparison. Magic square version is also more clean in my opinion, less transformation joints and gaps etc in both modes. It has virtually no faux parts, except for the front fender/hip, even the gas tank transforms into the larger gas tank, which is very clever. I never liked the back end of the Newage prime's truck mode, just does not look right and the upper cover doesn't lock into position when you try to lift it. As a toy, I also find I enjoyed play with Magic Square a lot more, the material is very tough and I was not afraid to use force. It is virtually indestructible. The Newage design has a flaw, the screws go lose all my versions on the front wheel arc part. I also found that some paint on the silver parts of the waist got rubbed off after a few days of play and transformation. Usually I find Newage gives better transformation experience than magic square for most of their transformers. This is not the case for Optimus. The tabs on the H27 (and variants)'s legs are way too tight, almost impossible to transform if you don't have strong finger nails, fingers feel painful afterwards. Overall I find transforming Magic Square prime much more pleasant experience. Overall, QC issues aside (Newage has better QC), I feel Magic Square takes this one with a healthy margin. For Newage to catch up in their 2.0 release I think they need to redesign.
Thanks for a mini review, the points are spot on. Like many fans said, H27 is more of an Ultra Magnus design, rather than a Prime dedicated mold, I guess it makes sense. NA used to be my go to brand for legend scale figures, but a few of their recent designs fell behind, especially when I was exploring the Devastator options, I was shocked how NA could release a set like that, hope they could get back to the old NA that fans love, maybe with a 2.0 Optimus.
@@OptimusLegends Totally agree. When I started collecting legends it ALL NewAge. Then a few MS crept in, and now, months later, it's 90% Magic Square. In my opinion their recent releases have almost entirely surpassed their NA counterparts - even with the oft-criticised choice of plastic (which i've never understood). What a time to be a legend collector!
The bs46 IS THE 2.0 VERSION for $80 !! It is important to note that. There is another “repaint” version that is $50 on showzstore and THAT IS NOT THE ONE IS THIS VIDEO!!
Why are you comparing to the NA EX? I think the MS is going for the Heroic chest look a bit, so it’s proportions are not “better”. That’s complete opinion. One can not say one looks definitely more proportionate. The lack of a transparent chest on the MS is killing it for me. I don’t like their materials, and I agree that it looks kind of cheap.
still without Ex color magic square prime wins!! in terms of accuracy, design, articulation, quality and durability . nylon doesnt break easily and no paint chipping
I just orders the new Optimus Prime figure from Newage (David) and that trailer is more cartoon accurate then the version you showed in this video, i gues you don't have the new one yet so it's a unfair competition. I would have liked Magic Square figures if they would use paint but they don't, so Newage is the winner for me.
I prefer the MS one mainly because I can’t get over how the newages chest looks with that weird faux chest. They’re both good, but that chest puts me off.
My pleasure! Yeah.. it bothers me as well, should be a way to not get painted parts involved in tabbing into anything, especially something very visible in robot mode.
I just can't get past how bad that NewAge chest looks in bot mode. I'm really looking forward to getting my MS Optimus when they start shipping the updated version.

Only it isn't. MS is more accurate to the cartoon, this is demonstrable . He even admits to this in this video.
@@Anduril1974 it just depends on the person, to my eye Newage's stuff always seems more accurate. They have more "anime" proportions to me which I think matches more
should i get the NA H27M David or mp10
Thank you for the video! You convinced me to wait a little longer in hopes for a B46 that is painted.
Glad I could help! B46 is worth the wait.
I spent a couple of hours watching your videos. You might be my favorite reviewer. Your cinematography is top notch and does nothing to help my plastic crack addiction.
It's such a honor, thank you so much Artimus.
This is a healthy addiction, welcome to the support group.
I like how you've finally got the repair station for MS-B46.
Sounds like you need both, double the fun.
I think it's worth pointing out that magic square is very likely to release a metallic/painted version their B46, much like what they did with their first attempt at a legends scale prime. I'm personally waiting for that version of the mold.
Agreed, it's inevitable, and hope it's not too pricy since this version is already too expensive for a legend scale.
I like the new age proportions better. The head size and slim arms looks more proportional to human standards (not saying that's required, but it's more aesthetic to me). I love the longer looking legs too. 46 looks like his head shrunk while bench pressing cybertron.
Thanks for the video.
Thanks to this, I'm getting the Magic Square B46.
The downside of Newage for me is the chestpiece.
Hi Jay, hope you enjoy your new micro masterpiece Prime!
MS has also beat NA with Soundwave specially the tapes. Its almost a no contest.
@@heavyhitter5538 I definitely agree with this too
These Prime versions made me think of:
MSquare = HG
NewAge = RG 😋
Welcome to the club, Gundam fan!
MP44 = PG
@@unknownguy2051 yes! THIS! xD
@@NeoSlashott KBB MP10V = MG
The Newage figure is really fun to transform, I'm looking forward to the Magic Square version.
2. The faux chest
-• this guy is similar to MP-44 because of its proportions and lack of real parts.
@@OptimusLegends perhaps, if it somehow manages to best b46 in the aspects it specializes in, my mind would be blown.
Wait where did you get the Magic Square repair bay?? I also didn’t notice the bottom has little sections for the video
It's a separate 5 dollar purchase for the bay, most stores who carry B46 have them, but sold separately for the production issue.
Yeah, that's a new trick I just learned to help viewers to navigate through the video, hope it's useful.
B46 I love it and David, 27 I have both they both worth the cop.
Magic Square probably is not going to do it but I would love to see them making the G1 toy accurate version just like David 27EX, that would look amazing
Bro thought we wouldn’t notice 0:50
Just got the newage h27 and I absolutely love him. The 1 I got doesn't have the metal spine but I still love him...them...I actually bought 2 from Ebay on sale. Now...I wanna get this dude. Lol
Hi Cody, enjoy your new Optimus!
Excellent work; so much of what you do, if not all, is what I look for in a reviewer.
Thanks! I appreciate that!
B46 is the better option for me looks like the G1 show in vehicle and robot and saturated colors reads well, especially with the Nylon. #Hasbro
#Takara
Its a crime against God we didn't get a masterpiece scale version of these... INCREDIBLE FIGURES, BETTER THEN ANY OTHER OPTIMUS, THESE ARE THE 2 BEST, NOTHING GETS THESE MANY THINGS RIGHT!
Couldn't agree more! Hope MS hears our voice of upscaling these figures!
IMO, MS prime wins for adding special effects. can't go wrong with both but the effects is an extra plus! thx for the vid!
Interestingly enough, the G1 cartoon Prime truck doesn't have a silver/grey stripe on it. Never actually realized it because I'm so used to seeing it on toys.
There is a strip in one of the cartoon draft, since it was following the toy design.
So in the cartoon, some scenes there was the stripe, some not.
Was really looking forward to this one, and you definitely delivered. Awesome work as always, dude.
Thank you Bishop for always being there, and glad you liked the video!
Incredible comparing video. Thank you for making this video! It helped me a lot to decide which Prime to get. 🙂
Glad it was helpful! And hope you get your Prime soon!
@@OptimusLegends Thanks! Already pre-ordered with a Megatron. 😁
I finally got MS Prime!!! 😁 It's so good that I had only one problem with the heads not being removable, but I was able to pop the heads in and out several times, and now my problem is gone. No breakage, not much paint chip, and so much fun. It's truly just Prime. 😀
And Optimus Legends, thank you so much for your seperate MS Prime video, it helped me a lot to transform the figure the first time.
I love you review style. Subscribed.
Awesome. Thanks for the review. The Magic Square B46 looks amazing!
Thanks for watching! And really glad you like the video.
MS-B46, hands down the best G1 incarnation of Prime - which is what I want. I absolutely love him!
Agreed, and hope you get yours soon!
MS B46 for me.
Magic Square definitely has it. Better looks, better articulation, no faux parts.
Agreed. Especially no faux parts.
Nice vids anyway @optimus legends do you think there will be bigger scale like earthrise scale of this G1 accurate model? I really like MAGIC SQUARE but i find the scale small
Thanks!
MS and NA have their own scales, smaller than the official lines, maybe you can try MFT? Slightly larger scale.
Thank you so much for this review :)
Glad you liked it!
Some great posing there man!! Nice review!!
Thank you! Great articulation on both figures.
Also I’m gonna give it too B46 I prefer the classic design and it looks smoother in my opinion by a lot
For me its Magic Square B46. It’s the action poses…I don’t like the look of the David when looking down from the top. The chest makes a weird line right under the chin. Love the clean look of B46!
I have both. Newage had the better presentation, better materials and fun transformation. And it feels premium.
I picked Magic Square because the transformation doesn’t involve faux parts.
Absolutely love your videos. Thanks for the thorough comparison.
Thanks Mr. Bawk! Hope it's useful!
This is the the review I was waiting for. Good job as always I can say even if you are new to the game. Thank you very much
Glad you enjoyed it, dom! Hope you get your favorite Prime!
I like both the same, although I might get the recolored version of magic square optimus
I feel like this review sums up every Newage and Magic Square figure.
B46 is my second Magic Square figure, I used to collect NewAge without a second thought, until MS Hound came out, masterpiece mindset for designing legend scale figures.
What a beauty of figures. Too bad I didn't know them before. If I did I would only collect those. Better than the masterpiece and the size I like. 💜
Hi Daya, they are new products came out early this year, and they showed how much transformer figures improved.
So do we have to buy the repairing station separately for the Magic Square ver. ?
No Gundam, the new re-release would include the repairing station, coming in June.
Thanks for the comparison! Did you have to apply your own decals?
Thanks! And yes, they didn't come with faction logos.
@@OptimusLegends Where'd you get your stickers from?
@@OEAgent01 I got it from a Hasbro authorized company called Ocean Design, I think their logos are more accurate.
How did you get the repair bay for MS Optimus?
Whelp this didn’t help me at all, because now I bought both!
aside the knee joint i greatly prefer magic square over new age
Knee joint of b46 make the leg look like it break in half
really wish they make mp scale to fix this problem
Oh i think if they go for extreme cartoon arcurate they can remove some truck detail to get a cleanner bot mode
I guess in legend scale it will be rather difficult to manage a better sculpt for the knees, and agreed, by scaling up, there should be a better solution.
Not sure how many repaint would come out, they are sharing the same mold and truck details I guess.
ordering a magic square soon.
Good choices, Nemesis won't let you down.
great comparison....magic square for me on this one...
Thanks! Good choice.
Magic square one is just perfect wow!
It’s 2024. Magic Square just released a new repaint as MS-B46A with metallic paint and vivid blue windshields. I have payed for mine already.
Does it come with a jet pack?
@@johnstrife7nope :(
@@saanyoun that's the only thing I want from the previous versions of this mold, axe, gun and the jetpack
@@johnstrife7 it’s a repaint reissue, with blaster, axe, replacement smokestacks. No new hands, no trailer, no jetpack.
Maybe hoping for MS premium color version? =)
Yeah, it should come, hope sooner than later.
I love your videos!! Keep up the work
Thank you!! Will do!
Have you considered reviewing Agamemnon EX?
Hi Bonnie, I definitely will put him in the plan, at the moment I have 3 other bots in the queue, if Magic Square Jazz didn't come out too soon.
@@OptimusLegends Haha ok, good luck on those!
@@toybonniesfm Thanks!
Does the trailer of newage Can enter in the magic square optimus ?
Both figures scale well with Devastator or Bruticus
Why are you comparing to the NA EX? I think the MS is going for the Heroic chest look a bit, so it’s proportions are not “better”. That’s complete opinion. One can not say one looks definitely more proportionate. The lack of a transparent chest on the MS is killing it for me. I don’t like their materials, and I agree that it looks kind of cheap.
still without Ex color magic square prime wins!! in terms of accuracy, design, articulation, quality and durability . nylon doesnt break easily and no paint chipping
Many people don't like the look and feel of nylon, but if that doesn't bother you, this Prime is just simply the best one.
Yes, the major reason that drives fans away from MS is the material and paint, it does not look premium.
NewAge is a very good option too.
I think the B27F but with the thighs/crotch/ribs painted slightly metallic like the EX and the head sculpt of the B46 would be damn near perfect.
I am sad I can't pick the og b46 up cuz b46e has no axe or extra hands
Another great vid! Keep it up :)
Thanks a ton! Will do!
I prefer the MS one mainly because I can’t get over how the newages chest looks with that weird faux chest. They’re both good, but that chest puts me off.
You did it!!!!!!! Thank you so much!! I freaking love your vids!!!
No problem! Lots of kneeling, just like how you ordered it.
@@OptimusLegends I appreciate you man!!! That paint chipping scares me
My pleasure!
Yeah.. it bothers me as well, should be a way to not get painted parts involved in tabbing into anything, especially something very visible in robot mode.
@@OptimusLegends with the price of these figures, I would think they would of figured it out. I can't wait for MS to release
