Skaters in Siberia enjoy some of the season's last trips across frozen Lake Baikal, the world's oldest and deepest lake. Please subscribe HERE bit.ly/1rbfUog
I want to go. This looks like an amazing place. I just found out that it exists. 20% of the worlds fresh water? Wow this is the most important place on earth. Is there anything more precious than fresh water? Mars says no. Venus agrees. The moon does too! I have skated on a lake here in Canada when it was frozen and before it was covered in snow and I gotta say that there is no more amazing feeling than that. Also when you are skating, you are warm. -25 is of little consequence. The sleep on the ice would be pretty chilly though. You would need a nice down sleeping bag and a large bottle of vodka!
What an experience! When I was young I learned to skate at Rockefeller Center. After that I became a lake skater, skating on a lake is harder. I remember flying across that lake for hours with my sisters. My Grandfather would comment on my cherry nose and apple cheeks. I would have loved the experience of skating and camping out on the lake!
Yes I agree I recently moved to the shores of Baikal from the United States and im producing videos of how life is here in Russias siberia feel free to give it a view if you could thanks happy new year
I'm sure these folks wouldn't appreciate it, but I would love to take my snowmobile across that lake. I could probably get close to 250kph on that clear ice.
There is no problem. We often use vehicles to move around the lake. Both summer and winter. Not so long ago, even some drift competitions were held. Lots of cars. About 20. And they all chased in twos. As it was said in the video, the ice is about a meter thick. And if we talk about some spiritual things, then Baikal is sacred for the local peoples. But they just ask not to pollute it and all that. PS: I even found a video from those competitions: ua-cam.com/video/e_049RbJM9M/v-deo.html
Come Russia is awesome I moved here to the shores of Bailey 9 months ago from california its absolutely beautiful. Making videos about my adventures here welcome to watch happy new year!

The ice is incredibly thick, there’re even vehicles going through, in Siberia entire rivers are used as motorways in winter. You just avoid the “riskier” seasons when the ice is still fresh or when it starts to decrease, easy to understand from temperature forecasts

@Tyron Cox the ice is incredibly thick, you just go there in safe season when temperatures well below zero have been consistent
I’d love to experience that too, whetever I’d be allowed to do, lake Baikal is definitely on my bucket list

There is nothing comfortable about ice-skating.
But how *deep* and how *old?*
Hapalon G but that still doesn't tell me anything. Im surprised this info wasn't included in the video considering the title.
+filmzen you could google it by yourself all this time...
1600 meters deep. It contains more water than all the Great Lakes in Canada/USA combined. I don't know how old it is.
