This made me think of one time I thought of what the different Somethings for each character could be. Aubrey: Something taunting her, it holds itself in her hair and dangles happiness in front of her, leaving her angry at it and everything around her. Hero: Something weighing down on him, similar to Sunny's because of his guilt, but it instead holds onto his back and pulls him back down to his bed every time he thinks he has motivation. Kel: Something holding him back. It tries to wrap around his legs and he's constantly kicking it away, trying to move forward in life but always harassed by the memories of his friends. It's partially the reason he still tries to reach out to Sunny.
now i'm wondering how one would depict each of these somethings... probably very different-looking than the ones in the game as they didn't witness the event the same way Sunny and Basil did
@@tespheract Ooo ok I did some things. Something in the Curtain: A anglerfish like entity, you mostly see its teeth and the lightbulb dangling from it. Something in your Bed: Either a standard "monster under the bed" creature, or it's like in between the sheets and the bed, so you pick up your blanket and it's peering out, with teeth lining the bed. Something in the Floor: A black residue seeping up from the floor and grabbing at you. Some floorboard are rotted away showing eyes.
well, low probability doesn't mean impossible! Hopefully I translated the phobia well enough, I don't have that one so it was a bit harder to get the ambience right

The original fears tie into Mari, with the stairs being obvious, the spider having to do with tying her up with rope (like a web), and the water having to do with suffocation. Just keep that in mind for fear bosses
pretty interesting links, I knew there were connections but I didn't think about the ones you mentioned before. For these fanmade fear bosses though I don't systematically stick to the story. The first 3 I did were based on my own ones and now I just do random phobias that go through my mind and make me go "oh I'm curious how this fear would "look" and "sound" "; you're right that there are phobias I could specifically choose to fit Omori better (actually I have a design draft for one that's much more linked, which is Dendrophobia... Now, for when it's gonna be done... welp)

the fear of falling into the sky? Oh that's an interesting one... I recall feeling a bit uneasy sometimes when I was watching the landscape with my head tilted, so I can see how it can be a phobia. Thankfully we have gravity keeping us well attracted to the ground!

Oh hey, another fear battle! I like this one and it reminds me a blob of ooze with eyes, kinda eldritch horror. The music you used sounds like you're in a sewer at least what I view this something. If you're still open for fear battles I wonder if it's possible for wasp fear. That's my phobia of those things

I'm gonna get flakk for this one but... I can't unsee the 'something' being panties with the corner line of the wall going down being the split of the legs... The lines outwards being the strings for the panties... It made such a revolting image to me at first that... I think it scared me more than what the picture actually is did...
Woo! Another phobia battle! I don't know how I didn't see this earlier. I really love how it sounds alien with the noises and melody to fit with the nature of molds and fungus.

I swear these phobias get better with each one you make. Great job on this one! I don't have the full on phobia but as someone who's had to live in dirty places with mold, this is what it feels like when you have to sit with it everyday worrying about getting sick.
thanks! i haven't had to live in dirty places so i consider myself lucky on that, but i've had a few times i'd be somewhere and feel unsettled about the dirtiness of the place. I suppose that helped me getting a remote idea of the fear itself.
i dont know how you did it but this song makes me feel so physically itchy everywhere on my body i think that's how you know it's a great song, fits the phobia incredibly!

thankies! i actually planned to do something like phobophobia someday, unsure if it'll happen, if anyone else wants to do it i'd be glad to give it a listen i think a starting point i'd use is going from the idea of self-repeating fractals for both the art and sound design, would fit with the idea of the fear of fear imo.

@@xomi9722 oh heck no (also honestly annoyed that I didn't see this potential ambiguity before because I would've removed it... this Something's design has been much more puzzling than I anticipated) hey now that I think about it, I could always remove the shadows on the edge in the thumbnail so that it becomes clearer that it's a room's corner. Will try that out
@@xomi9722 I remembered that the edges were darkened because the picture wasn't fullscreen, so there's actually not much I can do to fully clear it up; I still tried to change lighting and some shadows but this doesn't seem so conclusive... Another thing I could try is to zoom in so that the focus is more on Something's details rather than the edges and shadows, will check that out eventually
