When Jack knelt down to apologize the lighting on the unicorn was just so beautiful.

This has to be one of the most heartbreaking, majestic, and beautiful scenes ever. Put with the TD score it's too much to take.

it's been at least 15 years since i've seen this film and this scene STILL reduces me to tears! It's the whinny the unicorn makes (2:12), you can almost hear her saying "my friend's gone.."

I always think of it as her asking, "Why?" As in, "Why did you let this happen?"

There is a lot of symbolism in this clip. There is a lot of truth and emotion. Great score by Tangerine Dream.

When a human dies in a movie or looses a loved one to death, I hardly have any emotion and I don't cry... But, when I see an animal dying or one weeping over one, I begin to cry, and I have no idea why I'm crying... Or why I feel like I just lost someone dear to me...
Is it wrong that I don't feel emotions towards a human dying in a movie, but do get depressed when I see an animal dying in one?

For the life of me, I CAN'T understand how anybody could think the Goldsmith score is better than the Tangerine Dream one. The UNICORN theme that Tangerine dream produced MADE this movie. It's the theme the gives this movie LIFE. Just watch the scene when're Jack goes to ask for forgiveness from the unicorn and compare the 2. The tangerine score can bring you to tears while the Goldsmith score does nothing. I have nothing against Goldsmith but his score does not fit this movie. It's bland and generic and doesn't fit. AND THAT'S THE TRUTH. NO ROOM FOR DEBATE. IT'S THE FACT!

I agree. Especially when the mare makes that sound at 2:12. Just heartbreaking. You can feel her pain at the loss of her mate.

I agree with you so much!! It's the tangerine dream music that made this movie and the scene. I can't believe they made that other version. This one always brings tears to my eyes

This part always makes me cry. One thing I could never figure out, though: Is the unicorn dead? Or is he simply comatose?

    • @SmallDragon7804
      @SmallDragon7804 9 років тому +11

The unicorn stallion is dead as he was poisoned with a blowdart by Blix. He is restored to life by the end when his horn is returned to him.

One thing I could never figure out is where did they get unicorns from?

    • @SmallDragon7804

      Aaron Lewis
Real horses were used for the film. They had horns attached to their heads.

A lot of movies use animal actors to play opposite gender roles.
A famous animal actor, Crystal the Monkey, has appeared in almost 30 movies, and in virtually every single one of them, she plays a male monkey.
In the Lassy movies, all of them used a male dog to play the female dog, Lassy (although one movie had a female stunt double). The apparent reasoning behind this, was because when a dog goes into heat, she sheds like crazy making her fur coat thinner and messy. Males shed less than females, and so it was deemed easier and cheaper for staff to manage a male dog. Of course though, the directors were at least well aware of this gender discrepancy, and they used clever camera angles and grooming techniques to ensure that the acting dog's genitals were never visible.
Legend didn't give the horses the same treatment, and didn't really care about the fact that the "mare" had an obvious floppy penis between her legs.
