"Maximum The Hormone" is HUGE in Japan! Looks like you've already been told about their influence to younger musicians. And you seem to like them :) So, yes, they are VERY out-there... - the GODS of transitions! All their songs have so much stuff going on, it's crazy. But also - they maybe are the best trolls in the japanese music industry. "Alien" - basically about a "heavy" band, making good BA music, whining about illegal downloads, and turning to crap pop music for the masses (~ selling out, or think "Metallica" and Napster) "Small your hands" - Nao, the drummer, was having a baby. They basically announced she is a mom now. So they would change their style. Enough with that loud metal stuff. It's going to be nice and pleasant and cutesy from now on. They released "Small your hands" as a teaser kinda. It was a big fat joke of course. The following "Maximum the Hormone" part was heavy as ever (and even more) - you stumbled upon the "short" version - look for the full one! All their stuff is awesome! The band name - "Maximum the Hormone" refers to the love of the band for food, they eat a lot, sleep a lot, and generally don't care about a healthy life style... (well, that changed... song "Maximum the Hormone II") The band founders are Nao (drums) and Daisuke (vocals). They have been doing MTH since 1998 or 1999. Their org bassist and guitarist after a couple years - so Futoshi on bass and Ryo on guitar joined... Ryo is Naos little brother! Ryo writers most of the stuff, including lyrics, but they are often in "Ryo World" language, not even japanese understand them (and it's also not really the point ;). Nao has two kids now. So not only was/is she THE inspiration for so many young girl drummers, but also showed you don't have to decide between family and your job (well, her job is her passion). Japan is very old-fashioned, many women end their career (not only for musicians; I mean overall) and become a "mom"/"house wife" when they get pregnant. Nao showed you can do both. Tamu Murata ("Nemophila") did the same, the current "Gacharic Spin" drummer - we'll see, but it looks like she will be coming back. Ryo actually is very chill and shy (despite his appearance). As is their bassist. The most audience interaction comes from Nao and Daisuke - these two are constantly arguing about something :D Daisuke is a drummer too btw - he knows ALL the drum parts, and they change places with Nao sometimes in live performances or on some songs (-> "VAP") Absolutely HUGE live shows! But the band also loves (and maybe even prefers) playing for smaller/medium-sized venues. That makes it more intimate, more raw. But also - you would have to be VERY lucky to get tickets at all XD PS: the previous label (VAP inc) likes to strike / cr claim... MtH is now signed with "Warner" - well, you got the message... makes "Alien" kinda ironic ;)
I’ve been listening to their Spotify catalog, there’s this crazy mish-mashup in all their songs, but amazingly there’s NO repition, their ability holds no bounds, from punk, metal, funk, rockabilly, rap, disco even the wiggles, and almost every song has 3-4 different vocals, most of their songs have enough content in 1 song to make an entire album, truly amazing band
BAND-MAID and Maximum the hormone are my two favorite japanese bands. "Small Hands" was their first single of their 2013 album after a long break and the fans were waiting for something very heavy. But instead, they released this song as a prank. The real song is "Maximum the hormone" (like the band's name), the one you heard right after but It isn't the full song. You have to look at their official channel to find it. Most of their official videos have been deleted from the official channel since they signed with Warner Japan but there are still some left like one of my favorite called "Yushū Fukushū". Please check this one out, it's amazing. Thank you Ryan
The other MV's are here but 🤐, it's an unofficial channel. These videos are unlisted. Songs like "Buiikikaesu", "Utsukushiki Hitobito no Uta" or "Zetsubou Billy" are fantastic ua-cam.com/video/TyCsPp-U7Yg/v-deo.html Told you, my fave band with BAND-MAID. AMAZING!
I had already heard the "Maximum The Hormone" name before, but it's because Akane often mentionned them (and Nao in particular) that I really paid attention ... now I have most of their records.
I knew you would love this. The music is right up your ally from what I’ve learned of your musical taste but so is the video and everything too, like the humor and art of it all.
Dear Ryan, you’re on a risky journey, you know. As deeper you dig into the japanese music scene as harder it gets to crawl out again. But who should crawl out. Maximum the Hormone is just an absolute great band and live completely nuts. They are important for the japanese music scene and a big role model for many. Nao Kawakita, the drummer, was the reason Akane picked up the drums, because she never thought a girl can hit the drums so hard and wanted to do so too. The wonderful young ladies of Hanabie started as a Maximum the Hormone cover band at highschool. I would recommend to do Yoshu Fukushu or Zetsubou Billy, used for the ending scene for the famous anime series Death Note next from MTH And From Sokoninaru Go Ni Moyu or Tenohira de Oduru And mad respect that you start learning some japanese - that’s a nice way to show some respect ✊️ Oh, btw Akane plays Benjo Sandal dance of MTH ua-cam.com/video/KPgMD-nPITQ/v-deo.html
@@RyanMear - if you haven't encountered "benjo" yet in your studies, that is the toilet. And in traditional Japanese hygiene protocol, when you enter the house you change into slippers, and when you enter the benjo you change into a DIFFERENT pair just for use in the benjo only. In a hurry? You gonna be doing the "Benjo Sandal Dance."
Undoubtedly, I want to become a drummer who can give people a shocking impact, just like the shock I received from the drumming of Maximum The Hormone's Nao. I want to make people who hear BAND-MAID for the first time say "I thought the drummer was a man". I want to carry on proving the fact that music has nothing to do with gender through my drumming and BAND-MAID's music. --from Akane's interview.
I LOVE playing one or two of their heavier songs, then one that features Nao's vocals predominantly. The broader the brutal-to-bubblegum, the better. Then showing a video so they get to see who is playing what, and who the voices belong to. Rarely fails to disappoint.
Nearly all of the female drummers in japan that you have watched, from Akane, to Haruna were influenced by Nao, she is arguably one of the most influential drummers in Japan.
Whenever I'm writing a song and it seems to be going off the rails I think to myself "But is it 'Stop stop Winny upload' off the rails?" And it never is. :-)
What I've always loved about this band is how many styles of music they manage to play at the same time, and even though it's total chaos it never sounds out of place.
Oh now you reached this end of Japanese bands! MTH is the ones who made all Japanese people to wear necklaces. Hope to see your reactions with their song called F.
You have to know that there was a 1 or 2 week delay between when they released the first half of the song (小さな君の手) and the second half (maximum the hormone). They were on hiatus for about 2 years because the drummer was on maternity leave. Then they came back, showing us that poppy song along with a long written letter on why they decided to change styles after giving birth to a child. It turned out that if you read off the first letter off each line in the letter, it said 本気にしたやつファック, which basically means "fuck you if you took this seriously". Then the following week, they released the second half of the song which went back to their usual style and was so satisfying for us who were waiting so long for them to come back.
The very great MTH. The best influence they have left for the hundreds of bands that now amaze us is: "no style is not our style, so we will play anything and mix it however we want." So now it's easy to find bands that always try to look for contrast, difference, surprise. And it's a lot of fun!
The second half of the second video is actually a short teaser for another video entitled 『maximum the hormone』released in 2011. That's why it cuts off abruptly at the end. It has a sequel called 「maximum the hormone Ⅱ~これからの麺カタコッテリの話をしよう~」released in 2018, after the guitarist lost a lot of weight. That's probably the source of the lyrics you were looking at.
I'm Japanese, but tbh, I have no idea what the lyrics of Maximum the Hormone say, and interestingly, they don't sound in Japanese :p I am grateful that you have reacted to BAND-MAID, Maximum the Hormone, and Ningen Isu. Are you interested in Japanese metalcore bands? If you have an opportunity, try searching for the word "Crystal Lake" once :) Thank you!
They're an absolute delight to listen to and watch. Here's my list Ryan, "Zetsubou Billy", "Yoshu Fukushu", "Maximum the hormone II, let's talk about the future" and "Bo-ikikaesu" Now, sit down, strap in, and hold the flock on. You're welcome.
The 2nd song starts with a troll due to their fanbase saying they'd be soft once the drummer came back from her pregnancy. There's a full version of the main song on their official youtube now tho, so you can groove away man. If you want something with no goof, yoshu fukushu is phenomenal. If you want more insanity go with lets talk about menkata cottele. Really tho once you're past the initial shock factor and get what they're all about, you can't go wrong with anything they do
I was watching the Video of Hanabie answering fan questions, and one topic they spent a bit of time on was how they were an MTH cover band in school. So at least three of the members in Hanabie were heavily influenced by MTH.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE There's such a deficit of MTH content out there. I feel like the pandemic might drive them under. Keep the reactions going and support this band!!
One of my favorite bands. It's hard to even begin where to recommend lol Just make sure to listen to some of their older stuff too. I got hooked on them in 2007. Zestubou Billy has a video and is one of the death note songs, Rock and Roll Chainsaw is great. Too many to name. This reaction was hilarious.
They are awesome! Brutal Truth meets Red Hot Chilli Peppers 🤣 The music and the videos are awesome. I found some videos of a MTH live and it's just as awesome... I already take for granted that Japanese crowds really know how to play their part! Anyway, love these guys, at some point will start collecting CDs...
If you like chaos, then you are in for a treat ahahah But be aware that they hate youtube so much that they even took off some of their original MV from here! Some videos you can only find them from other sites, or re-uploaded from different people, like one of my favourites "Koi no Mega Lover" or "Chu Chu Lovely Muni Muni Mura Mura".
You happened to listen to two of their their most jokiest songs. MTH is definitely among my favorites, even though their early stuff isn't really my cup of tea. The two main problems with this band is how slowly they release new music (BAND-MAID probably releases more songs in a month than MTH does in a year 😅) and how hard it is to see them live.
I'm not a big fan of this type of music (mostly the screaming singing part) but i can appreciate the talent and they have some really cool songs. One of the things that i like from your videos is that you take the time and read the lyrics too.
lol you wanted this groove to go on for another 5 minutes; there's a complete version of this song (Yes, that's how much they troll there fans) really glad you discovered them. PLEASE react to Asian Kung Foo Generation as well; ANY song will get you hooked I promise. Cheer!
The thing is, 小さな君の手 (Chiisana Kimi no Te, or The Hand of Little You/Your Little Hand) is an excellent J-Pop song on its own. The theme is motherhood, as we see see childless Nao-san looking wistfully at the families in the park. It leads to the next song (マクシムザホルモン), which seems also to be about motherhood (see the pregnant dancing girls). I think most of the MTH on UA-cam come from a DVD they released as part of a box set. This video, unfortunately cuts off in the middle of マクシムザホルモン for some reason, but the full version is out there. Can’t believe you waited so long to check out MTH. My favorite videos are Youshu Fukushu (about seeking revenge on middle school bullies) and マクシムザホルモン 2 (a song snout healthy lifestyle and weight loss).
Just to show my age here.. I think the first time I listened to them, my brain was set at 33 rpm. It was hard to connect. Next time I was on 45,, better comprehension. But really ones brain has to be at 78 to fully grasp the nuances here.
With MTH expect the unexpected never cut a video short and enjoy the ride they are huge in Japan and as you said there sound and style have influenced a lot of bands and musicians .there just a great all round band .
The えいりあん (Eirian) at the beginning of the video is Hiragana. Which is used for "native" words. I don't know why they chose to use it instead of Katakana (エイリアン), which, as you said correctly, is used for foreign or slang words. My wild guess would be to just do things different from the norm. I'm only teaching myself the language for a bit over a year "more seriously" now, I even understand about 20% of what people are saying if they're speaking clearly, but I'd say my knowledge for everything but theory is probably still at around 2 - 3% of "I know how to speak Japanese". Anyway, welcome to that long, hard road ;)
MTH brings the MADNEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ LOL. Love this song and your reaction was fucking priceless! And you're 100% correct on their influence on more recent acts. There's another band I think you need to check out, Scandal. They would be the opposite of MTH but in a really really good way.
Oh yes Mr Mear, finally found MTH. Yes, they're big in Japan. A conglomeration of visceral, unique and thoughtful madness. Their influence of course is widespread. Miku from Band Maid said she used to blast it through her headphones walking home after a shift from the Maid cafe🤘....the Japanese scene is immense, and has been for a while. Check out versatile old timers like Boris too. 🇯🇵
Late to the show and too lazy to read all the comments, but just FYI, Nao, the drummer is the inspiration of a lot of female japanese drummers, including one you may have heard of, Akane Hirose... :-) If you want another wild ride from them, you should check "Yoshu Fukushu", if you want a more straightforward song, check "Hungry pride". Enjoy!
I've seen them live, absolutely amazing. Another couple of Japanese bands to check out, unless you have already, Yousei Teikoku and Backdrop Cinderella
Yea, MTH is... a LITTLE bit chaotic maybe ;) Btw be prepared to get that "W? T? F?" feeling every time you listen to one of their songs for the first time! There is another version of the second video that has the beginning "goof" bit cut but has the entire actual song.
I don't know if anybody has recommended yet the song "maximum the hormone II" , if not and if you like wild transitions like this one, you must go and listen to it, and also the history behind that song is very interesting so if you could get the back story before that gives you a good understanding about how good this band is
Hanabie used to do MTH covers in Sr. High school. Yukina (Hanabie Lead Screamer) has a bit of Daisuke (MTH Lead Screamer) influence in her "squeal" screams. Akane became who she is today because of Nao Kawakita (Drums MTH) influences. The future of J-Rock/Metalcore is in safe hands due to MTH. Do you have "Awkward" in your Band MAID line-up yet? Looking forward to that reaction. Arigato Gozaimasu, Po!
Hopefully you found the full version of Maximum the Hormone (the song) at some point. It looks like there aren't any other MtH song reactions on you channel other then covers by other bands... I'm guessing maybe you did some but they got copyright struck...? Anyway, I hope you ended up listening to more of there stuff. Almost as much as I wish MtH would release another damn album!! IT"S BEEN 11 YEARS!!!
@@RyanMear Yeah, I swear they would have gotten more fans over the last 10 years from reactions than any other way. Hell, the only reason I know they released a song recently is because people were reacting to it. Usually I'd say it's the record company looking to squeeze every last drop of money from whatever they can, but MtH themselves seem to be a special case.
The first part of the 2nd song is kind of a joke. They were coming back from a very long leave and they made the fans believe that they had changed their musical style. This is the short version of this song.
You MUST listen to "Chu Chu Lovely Muni Muni Mura Mura Purin Purin Boron Nururu Rero Rero" but it is hard to find, you might find it on bilibili or spotify but I don't think it's on youtube. Every MtH song will pale in comparison to that one.
You can be any professional, you can do any well; a japanese person is coming who will show you how to do it. 👺 MTH’s songs can be very contrasting. One of the craziest bands in the world ever . 😌 Tip: it is a live not so crazy ... and you can see how many people love the MTH in Japan Maximum The Hormone - Koi no superuma " マキシマム ザ ホルモン 『恋のスペルマ』 Music Video 野外フェス映像ver. " 🤘🐇🕳
Again a reaction only you can give, its time more people subscribe on youre channel, you deserve to grow faster, keep it comming Ryan😀 and dont forget once in a while go back home(NightWish)😁
If you liked that heavy groove you should check out Clone by Gojira. It's the first song off of their first album and it's probably the best opening song on any debut album in terms of heavy groove.

lol you wanted this groove to go on for another 5 minutes; there's a complete version of this song (Yes, that's how much they troll there fans) really glad you discovered them.
Thanks for including the katakana😉
Just to show my age here.. I think the first time I listened to them, my brain was set at 33 rpm. It was hard to connect. Next time I was on 45,, better comprehension. But really ones brain has to be at 78 to fully grasp the nuances here.
I think it was someone reacting to Babymetal iine and they said: "this song is like an album". That's basically most Maximum The Hormone songs. :-)
yes! some MTH BEST BAND EVER!
LOL - Just stumbled on this reaction. If SOAD and RHCP had a Japanese Lovechild, it would surely be named MTH! 😄
I think the closest equivalent to MTH would be Mr Bungle or Zappa. No genre is safe. You can definitely see they heavily influenced Hanabie.
As a rock or metal musician there is no way you could hear MTH and not be influenced.
Gotta listen to Louisiana Bob , or Zetshu Billy, ,
Never , ever, let, your guard down with these guys,
Late to the show and too lazy to read all the comments, but just FYI, Nao, the drummer is the inspiration of a lot of female japanese drummers, including one you may have heard of, Akane Hirose... :-)
If you want another wild ride from them, you should check "Yoshu Fukushu", if you want a more straightforward song, check "Hungry pride". Enjoy!
You basically got Rick Rolled my friend XD
Ryan… FINALLY!
What took you so long?!🤣
I've seen them live, absolutely amazing.
I don't know if anybody has recommended yet the song "maximum the hormone II" , if not and if you like wild transitions like this one, you must go and listen to it, and also the history behind that song is very interesting so if you could get the back story before that gives you a good understanding about how good this band is
Subscribed because you reacted to this band and like it
MAXIMUM THE HORMONE - Yoshu Fukushu (Preemptive Revenge)
Hanabie used to do MTH covers in Sr. High school. Yukina (Hanabie Lead Screamer) has a bit of Daisuke (MTH Lead Screamer) influence in her "squeal" screams. Akane became who she is today because of Nao Kawakita (Drums MTH) influences. The future of J-Rock/Metalcore is in safe hands due to MTH. Do you have "Awkward" in your Band MAID line-up yet? Looking forward to that reaction. Arigato Gozaimasu, Po!
You need to check their song Yoshu Fukushu…you won’t be disappointed
Another great band from Japan, 🤘..
If only you react "Frozen Serenade" by Lovebites.. just beautiful ballad song.
If you want a double treat, look up a YT video of Akane from Band Maid laying a drum cover of MtH song Benjo Sandal Dance, you'd like it.
The first part just shows they can write poppy songs if they want, but they don't want to. Lol
MTH is Mr. Bungle taken up a few levels.
I read somewhere on other comment section that there trolling there fans cause nao just give birth so there music got mellower.
Everything goes wrong with MtH....wanna scream..scream while listening to MtH🤟🤟🤟..yep2 MTH "a party crasher"..🗣️📢🤟
Yes, blocked other reactions. I've listened to everything though🤘
@@RyanMear AH, well, that suck, but makes sense. They have a bad habit of doing that.
I'll never understand it. They get the revenue, every view gets them views! 😕
I think I just about gave thumbs up to every comment here. Still grinning ear to ear. So much fun. Oh, thanks Ryan!
The first part of the 2nd song is kind of a joke. They were coming back from a very long leave and they made the fans believe that they had changed their musical style. This is the short version of this song.
The url is full version for second one

Thanks!
Found it: ua-cam.com/video/E3Hk-zZQG4M/v-deo.html
What? Ryan's listening to Maximum The Hormone? Strap yourself in buddy. This should be fun. Where's my popcorn?
🤘😎🤘
You can be any professional, you can do any well; a japanese person is coming who will show you how to do it. 👺
MTH’s songs can be very contrasting. One of the craziest bands in the world ever . 😌
Tip: it is a live not so crazy ... and you can see
how many people love the MTH in Japan
Maximum The Hormone - Koi no superuma
" マキシマム ザ ホルモン 『恋のスペルマ』 Music Video 野外フェス映像ver. "
🤘🐇🕳
Again a reaction only you can give, its time more people subscribe on youre channel, you deserve to grow faster, keep it comming Ryan😀 and dont forget once in a while go back home(NightWish)😁
Genius band and even better live. Now when you see the 2 Nemophila MTH covers you will understand how hard it is to cover this band.
I always get strong SOAD vibes from MTH and I mean that in the greatest way. Way better instrumentals tho in MTH.
There’s a longer version
Unfortunately you got the cut off version of the second song. :(
MTH is a beast 🤘🏿
Louisiana Bob by MTH (and...almost anything they do really) is 🔥🔥 would highly recommend a good listen
Buiikikaesu is a solid album
If you liked that heavy groove you should check out Clone by Gojira. It's the first song off of their first album and it's probably the best opening song on any debut album in terms of heavy groove.
👍!🇯🇵
The genre is Nani!? Metal.
There is a version of that last song that goes on longer, but doesn't have the trolling pop song intro. ua-cam.com/video/MmfUyyUL07A/v-deo.html
🔥MTH🔥💪
By the way, At the end of the video you can see nemophila MTH cover, they actually made two MTH covers, please check it out too😉👍
PLS react to Hungry Pride
Eirian is Alien in japanenglish
Yep I figured that out eventually LOL
React to more Maximum The Hormone please 🙏🏻 Yoshu Fokushu or Koi No Sperma please 🙏🏻
