Thats just flat out awesome, Conrail did such a good job of trimming the trees to the point where you could actually see the trains, NS needs to do the same.
Nice Classic video man! That C32-8 was CLEAN! I miss the days of spartan cabs leading mainline trains. Atleast csx and ns are repainting some of their sd40-2's and 50's and keeping in mainline consists still.
Oh wow man you get around!:). I'm Jealous I need to get some railfanning in I havn't been in awhile! The last few times I have watched trains on the A line I have seen atleast 1 shiny dark future SD40 or 50 that was about 3rd unit back in the consist. Always a pleasant surprise.
Hate to see locomotives neglected and abused like that. Was just watching some SP SD-45T-2s on Cajon Pass, and they were barely smoking at all- you saw more heat waves coming off them than smoke. Yeah, you can overfuel those engines- but you might get 1% more horsepower in return for 10% higher fuel usage.
+Mark Stockman I think there's some footage on UA-cam somewhere of SP Tunnel Motors on the GATX TankTrain exiting a tunnel, I think on Tehachapi - the smoke column makes Mount Vesuvius look eco-friendly.
I really like that purr the 6615 and the 5009 make! Nice catch!

This C32-8 was a long way from home at this time....they were used almost exclusively on the ex NYC nee B&A Boston Line.

Was this shot before the C32-8s were relegated to ballast service?
