Paul, I have watched this over and over, and I still wish that I could be so fortunate to fish in a beautiful setting as Scotland. I have to agree with your sentiment about just being there is good enough.
Sadly i no longer live there and this was just a holiday to see friends who do, the whistle at the end was from a fishing buddy and hopefully we will be going back this summer for a bit of whistling and a bit of fishing. Thanks
One of my favorite episodes. I've made many variations of mackerel rigs over the last couple of years. One of my favorite materials is the bag from Doritos chips which are very shiny and durable not to mention the chips are a nice bonus.
I’ve made multiple sets and am really enjoying making them. Plan on giving some way to friends and have already caught some sea trout on them. Great idea and superb narration and editing.
Oh man, I could almost taste those mackerel. My mom (passed now) and I were the only ones in the family that loved mackerel on the barbecue in summer and in a bake in winter. Thanks for the memories. All the best to you. Scenery was beautiful as well. Sean
What's great is that the coffee packaging is "pre-scented". I find a bag of Starbucks grounds, which I received as a gift and I'll never drink, makes for great scent and worm food w a garlic clove or two. Great video as always! You have that creative Detroit spirit across the pond. Cheers!
Thank you for this video, with instructions on how to tie each lure to the main line. Your instructions are clear, simple and easy to follow. Your videos are good quality and the angles are superb. I also make my own mackerel/bluefish and sabiki rigs. This video is very helpful. You are creative and amazing. I love all your videos. Can you possibly do more videos of you ocean fishing? We enjoy watching you catch fish. Spouse and some family are from Ireland and Scotland. We are planning 2-week vacation to Ireland/Scotland next year and hope to do some fishing. Hope to use some of your handmade rigs.
Always a pleasure watching your videos , Paul , ...never knew that method how to tie a sidearm knot , ........also a great sight to see each hook of your rig engaged with mackerel , ........cheers , Dieter
Hi Paul, I made it and use it as a teaser with my casting jig using your same tip to connect it to the leader, miracles are hapening, thanks for the great video and tips.
***** juste a small remark Paul if i may, I noticed that you changed the knot you are using to tie the feather to the hook (comparing to earlier similar rigs in 2012 and 2013) , is there any particular reason? thanks
This is the knot i actually started out tying when i began making feather traces, it works and it it quick but it is not as strong as the knot i developed later which is in most of the videos. It only really works well with simple attachments and very few turns round the hook so it is not something i would use for everything but in this situation i am happy with it. Thanks for spotting and asking
Made a couple of sets of these with size 4 hooks, and had a double hookup of little pollack on my very first cast into lock Creran! Great for pollack and mackerel, great vid, thanks for sharing, I'll never buy another set of lures again!
so simple so good, your amazing. thanks for the video.

it was my first time to watch this video, I enjoyed the sceneries a lot, specially that last scene when the camera came to pulling out the 4 mackerels all one after another lining up perfectly. ... today is nasty day out side in NY with lots of rain and wind gusts before the hurricane, but u made me but on my fishing mode and went out , so I would like to thank you
+usamail usanyc The world often looks a little wilder from behind the curtains, so many times I have forced myself out and had the best of times. thanks
Все просто,доступно и понятно,можно было даже без слов хватило бы музыкального сопровождения. Многим нашим блогерам не мешало бы поучиться делать видео.
Great idea ... Simple and active But i have one or two questions : _Do you throw it alone with no baits? _Is it for sea fishing? _What is the weight of your sinker ? I am a beginner so i hope you answer my question.
Now this is a man that knows how to start the day right lol.would like to know some details on the coffee pot.i got two similar stove top Expresso pots, but they don't look like this.seems yours makes a sizable amount.intreasting lure.might give this a swirle.needed a simple way to rig perch hooks.some absolutely baby fish was all that was biting and needs micro gear to catch.would be good to live line later.
I am not sure how it would be possible to make this video any better. You know how to make a mackerel rig, but you also know how to make a first class video. Thanks for making and sharing.
Great advice, i have been making mackerel lures for a while now, crude compared to yours but they still catch, the reason why? Is because shop brought one's crack off and i think some brands the line breaking strain is over rated and also there's nothing like making and catching on your own tackle, i like swan feathers but will try your technique and that venue you fished from breath taking reminds me of west coast Ireland, thanks for posting
Paul Adams thanks, i plan on eventually making sabiki rigs (you tend to call them mackerel feather rigs) using micro sized hooks on light line. your videos on this are the best resource on the matter
Paul Adams thanks, i plan on eventually making sabiki rigs (you tend to call them mackerel feather rigs) using micro sized hooks on light line. your videos on this are the best resource on the matter
hey paul , could you set up a sea bass rigg , montage and everything , there are diferent ways i belive but am not very good at it and havent found any good site to help me progress towards mastering the seabass art
Yeha! Nice job with "nothing" but calm and simple way, i like this in your video! I don't have maquerel into my lake, but i can try this for pearch fiching (with small hook :) ). Thanks for your work and sharing! Stephane
Amazing thank you for the great video I did it but instead I have used parrot feathers cuz I have a pet parrot and there's a lot of old feathers with nice colours on them like red blue yellow and green so I used them with some type of reflective sewing thread And guess what it worked perfect for the mackerel and some sardines hooked too
Been using 'Bait chaser' rigs since 1982 in the ocean. Best ones are from Korea, they even come with attachments for chemical lights for below 300 metres. Various rigs used mainly with wood floats at the rod end and lead at tail. Even used a plastic water bubble weight at tail and this allows the rig to 'float' and retrieved to catch Garfish to 5 foot with No.10 hooks. s27.postimg.org/dck3wedxf/image.jpg P.S. best way to store them is wrapped around a block of stiff foam with a slit at either end. The hooks are inserted into the foam. Used to have one on my telescopic rod on the car seat, ready to deploy as soon as I got out of the car. 7 hooks, 7 fish, first cast, used to annoy the locals :o)
Myles Nicholas Floating with rigs for garfish is something i really want to try this summer, one of my favourite methods of using them is trolling them with a para-vane which can get down to big Pollock. Thanks
Very nice video, explained very well and a delight to watch. I've made several sets now as fish in Norway, to loose tackle can get very expensive and almost inevitable here, for something like this about 3 pounds a pop and made in China. I caught loads of fish with them, pollock, mackerel, colefish and I even had a codling and pollock together once.
+Scott tork I started making them because i used to lose the far eastern made ones in the reefs and kelp, and i figured that someone else was sitting down and tying them so why couldn't it be me. I think one of my best days was showing somebody on the beach how to make them and then the pair of us catching fish. Thanks
i love all your videos, they are so informative, clear and simple to understand. i enjoy the fact that you use the rigs uve made to show how u make use of them and how they work effectively. thanks so much for doing these videos.
As always, very clever and better yet it produces a nice catch....nicely done. Made me want to look up the Isle of Mull on Google Earth...pretty stunning views. Thank you for sharing.
Nice production values, simple. No fish kissing. No fist bumps. No fancy boats and gear that at the end of the day make you think the two fish you caught would amount to $2000/ pound.
Paul, I have watched this over and over, and I still wish that I could be so fortunate to fish in a beautiful setting as Scotland. I have to agree with your sentiment about just being there is good enough.

I've made a few of these just for fun. As I only fish freshwater, I'm Probably never going to use them but still fun to make.
Fuzzy Ewok yep i have the same problem, sometimes just tie rigs or hook lengths for no good reason
I’ve made multiple sets and am really enjoying making them. Plan on giving some way to friends and have already caught some sea trout on them. Great idea and superb narration and editing.

Thanks, we still have a car plant but lots of empty streets. The coffee scent has almost got rid of the fish smell from my bag.
What a fantastic tip. I'm just getting back into fishing after an almost 30yr break! Will be having a go at making this rig very soon. Many thanks.
Karlos Fandango I see you have finally come to your senses after 30yrs, welcome back and don't let it happen again. oh and thanks

I watched this shoal of mackerel move up chasing little whitebait, i think they hit the rig just after it hit the water. Cheers Dieter
Oh so lovely !!
Like others have said, a great video instruction !!
Loved the music as you fished your rigs
Helllo from México...thank you for sharing it..
Now I made my own sabikis...

Video pro qualité. Thanks you

I am a beginner so i hope you answer my question.
Cast with no bait. Use a 3 pound weight and cast into the sea if you r fishing for mackerel
thanks Sir.
Very nice
mate youre a bloody legend.
awesome video
Sweet idea! Thanks for sharing!

Robb's Homemade Life thanks
Maybe use a dark cloth as background to see the tying and line better.
I was thinking the same. Quality content.
TRUE!!!
Amazing
Good video paul and great idea
Those would be great for panfish if I made a small version of the rig and jigged it.
+David Comeau it is not something i have tried in fresh water, i have made very small versions of this for baits fishing from piers
Really good
thanx for show ;)
Thanks, Gorgeous sharing.
Really learned from it much tq.
good job paul

great, thanks
I'll never use that in my neck of the woods but great video and another clever design with little to no investment!
Chris Thomas i was particularly fond of the no investment, if only i could get all my lures so cheap, thanks
Great video :)

Not bad..
will this work for herring?
paul do you have a videos on smoking mackerel?
The question is,is this effective to catch a fish?anyway i saw your vid until end and sure its good
is this only for mackerel?
i know im late to the party, but can you use potato chip packets instead of coffee packets? or do you need the rigidness of the coffee packets
i think you may need something a little bit thicker

Would a large pike jerk bait be good for a first lure
josh white Yeah, i wish i would of made jerk(glide) baits earlier, pike just seem to go nuts over them
***** thanks can you use smaller one for big slimys
give it go, i have caught big slimys on little hooks
***** can you make a small glide bait for slimys
Would this bait be good on Large/small mouth bass?
ZeroFinal 145 I have no idea there are no bass where I live, I use this rig for sea fishing, thanks
Yes I found out that most of your lures are for sea fishing but hmm i'll try them anyways here in the states and try my luck. Thanks for the reply!

Nature minimaliste (Bushcraft) mackerel are sea fish
Great video...I don't see how anyone could dislike this video...The dislikes must be from Extremist Vegans...
Wow... Nice to see someone that makes a lure and then test it...
