Anneke is the one, she was the begining of the new era of female singers and she is amazing, this concert of the 25 anniversary even thou she wasn´t in the band for 10 years it sounded like she never lefted, Anneke is also one of the most prolific artist in metal, she along side with her solo career and band(Vuur) she has colaborations with about 50 artists/bands some of the most known like Amorphis, Devin Townsend Project, Anathema, Ayreon, Within Temptation, Moonspell and much more, apart from that she also do solo acustic shows, she did a play for children and she even sanged for the Dutch royal family, so there is lots of great music to listem from her

One day The Netherlands will realise just what a legion of fine singers it has - from Henk Poort to Anneke, Floor, Simone, Charlotte, Sharon and onto the younger generation with the likes of Davina Michelle and Emma Heesters.
Glad to see Anneke is getting some love! She makes it all look so effortless, and yet ridiculously textured and expertly performed. And she makes it look even easier with how she seems to find tons of time to interact with the audience, almost separate from the performance - [belts out a line] Oh, hey there [belts out some more] I see YOU, over there [goes up to head voice] Oh, no, you did not. It's seems out of place at a serious metal show, but that's part the charm, although I suspect some people are turned off... I am betting/hoping that perhaps she is the next metal singer they invite to Beste Zangers, cause you know how TV works, if it worked to so great once... and Floor did name drop her during the show. Maybe then she'll get her due... This quarantine with its cancelled tours is showing how precarious the situation is for artists like Anneke orDevin and their livelihood, even after over 25 years in business, that Devin needed to rely on kindness of fans who did a fundraiser for HIM to shore him up after tour cancellation, Anneke has to offer paid collaborations and rent out office space for the same reasons... Not to mention she was gong to guest on Floor's last big show of the Dutch mini-tour and who knows if/when that's going to happen now... There is one Gathering song that's a bit of an outlier, more of an alternative 90s college rock radio than their usual heavier goth/industrial metal, but it is an amazing showcase for what she can do - The May Song. I suspect you are going to LOVE it. I would also recommend Gentle Storm, the project she did with Arjen Lucassen and several musicians from his Ayreon, with Marcela Bovio singing backup. There are some great fun songs there.
Their discography is so diverse. You really need to listen to every album because they are so different yet perfect in their way. And if you can choose always do the live version, thats where Anneke shine.
Yay! The Gathering! Nighttime Birds is such a good album. Def in there with my favorite albums of all times. Third Chance and Shrink are also great songs to check out from this album. Floor does what she does because of Anneke. She's her role model.

Watched two of your videos with you reacting to The Gathering and just have to say I love you for helping spread the music of this vastly under appreciated band. The chemistry between the band and Anneke is magic and I'm still heart broken that they are not still making music together.
My favorite recorded live concert of The Gathering is their final World tour with Anneke called, A Noise Severe. She picks up the axe in that a couple times and jams with the amazing work of the guitarist Rene Rutten, who along with his brother, Hans, on drums formed The Gathering in 1989. Five years before they hired Anneke. It is the music, lyrics and alchemy that goes into the mix that makes it so creative and new. I discovered them a year ago. I listen to them all the time now. A friend recently asked me, "What other bands do you listen to? "WAIT! You mean there are other bands?"
Also have a look at Gathering - Strange Machine (pinkpop version), to see how they looked back then in '96. Some Gathering songs done by Anneke's more recent band Vuur sound more heavy even. Oh, and Anneke can keep this up for two-three hours straight.

I highly recommend "Travel" - the climax is just amazing! Edit: What I love about this performance is the ease with which she transitions between head and chest voice, giving the song such a nice contrast. Always keeping it interesting!
Don't know if you guys know this already, but Anneke inspired Floor to become a metal singer. Floor said in interviews that when she saw The Gathering live (and heard Anneke sing), she knew that she wanted to be a metal singer.
I have all of the Gathering albums with Anneke as singer. Such a great band then. There’s also a concert with less heavy music calles ‘A sound relief’. She now has her own band called VUUR. Anneke also contributed to the Ayreon live concert in 2019. It’s called The electric castle live and other tales. You can find it on the channel of Arjen Anthony Lucassen (he is Ayreon) and several other channels.
The more The Gathering the better!! Take a look at the live version of Strange Machines at Pinkpop (1996). That song was in the charts here in The Netherlands and every metalhead fell in love with her :)

Deeply touching song about loss and recovery and rebuilding; it's like the message of Whitney Houston's "greatest love of all" done gathering style. Travel is possibly number 1, but Nighttime’s probably my favorite album. Wolf needs to hear some stuff off Mandylion - their closest to their death metal roots with Anneke on vocals. i am so moved by the music i love that in the eternal debate (if you had to pick, would you choose blindness or deafness) as much as i love beautiful images of nature and the universe, i lean more to giving up my sight before my hearing because i would miss music too much. Anneke has a very bright voice, and belts like a champ. reminds me very much of Annette Olzon. can feel how much she puts into her performance. the difference between good singers and great singers.
The Gathering, and I'm one of the dutchies who fell in love with her because of Pinkpop. If you want to see how she interact with the audience I recommend the 'Time After Time - Anneke Van Giersbergen - La Scène Bastille 13/12/2012' video. Yes it is a cover from Cindy Lauper, but it is quite funny.
Doornroosje is Dutch for sleeping beauty. The Gathering is such a great band and Anneke (the A is pronounced like in Darth, both E’s are pronounced as the e in barker) is such a great singer. Just listen to her singing in VUUR, Ayreon, with Devin Townsend. The Gathering did a special live concert called A Sound Relief, where the volume of the guitars etc was less heavy. A sort of unplugged light concert. You can hear her singing qualities better because she doesn’t have to give it all to be heard above all the music. Listen to this album, Nighttime Birds, and to the album Mandylion. So good.
Anneke is the first one, after her, many goddess of melodic, symphonic and power metal came to this world, and she was their inspiration. In spite of the band used to play a simple kind of metal, in Mandylion and Night Time Birds albums specially, Anneke's voice filled every space with incredible atmospheres, simply wonderful. Unfortunately there's not too many good quality videos of the band from 90's, but if you try some live performance of this song or any other of those albums, you'll know what I'm talking about. 🤘
Yup: metal scene in The Netherlands. We have some very very good female singers. And this is why you should take your time in 1 song. Not the just 3:21, but build up, take the time it takes.

I fell in love with the voice of Anneke the first time I heard "Strange Machines". I play the DVD's "A Noise Severe" and "A Sound Relief" on a regular base. The song "Wonder" from Agua de Annique helped me through a rough period. And her collabs with Arjen Lucassen, the man behind Ayreon. Her collabs with Devin Townsend, remember "Ih Ah!" and "Grace" to name some. And her countless other projects. You know that the Anneke is the reason that we have Floor Jansen today! Floor discovery through Anneke that she could be a metal singer, Anneke was the inspiration to pursue the singing career!
Everybody is talking about Anneke. But the real genius behind The Gathering is their guitar player Rene Rutten. He is the one who wrote most of the music.
So hilarious to see the expression of Wolf when becoming gradually aware of the great vocals and personality of Anneke and the music of The Gathering. Who are putting out class act albums from 1996 on and helped from the beginning to define goth rock, and did evolve from that as a band. It resembles, I guess, mine. LOL When for the first time confronted with her vocals as with those of Siouxsie (Siouxsie & The Banshees), Ian Curtis (Joy Division) in the late 1970's and early 1980's and Johnny Cash, Eva Cassidy and Natalie Merchant end 1990's. Since then I did not have that kind of reactions anymore. And now I see it on Wolfs's face. LOL. She (Anneke) did so many admirable stuff since the beginning. Gotten better and better during the years. During her time with The Gathering, in her groups (Aqua d'Annique and her current band Vuur) and solo (the internet is full of live shows of her solo) and in collaberations (with amongst others Devin Townsend, Ayreon etc etc). Loving the reaction videos of you two. I am watching those for some time now, never reacted before however. One always takes from it, some really good food for thought and omg so much pleasure. Love the Gathering!! They have changed so much, album by album, and have so many all time favorites for me that are utterly distinct from each other. Travel is possibly number 1, but Nighttime’s probably my favorite album. Wolf needs to hear some stuff off Mandylion - their closest to their death metal roots with Anneke on vocals. Sand and Mercury, Mandylion, Strange Machines. All sooooo good. Get on it guys! ;-)

i am so moved by the music i love that in the eternal debate (if you had to pick, would you choose blindness or deafness) as much as i love beautiful images of nature and the universe, i lean more to giving up my sight before my hearing because i would miss music too much. Anneke has a very bright voice, and belts like a champ. reminds me very much of Annette Olzon. can feel how much she puts into her performance. the difference between good singers and great singers.
The Gathering, and I'm one of the dutchies who fell in love with her because of Pinkpop. If you want to see how she interact with the audience I recommend the 'Time After Time - Anneke Van Giersbergen - La Scène Bastille 13/12/2012' video. Yes it is a cover from Cindy Lauper, but it is quite funny.

The Gathering is such a great band and Anneke (the A is pronounced like in Darth, both E’s are pronounced as the e in barker) is such a great singer. Just listen to her singing in VUUR, Ayreon, with Devin Townsend.
The Gathering did a special live concert called A Sound Relief, where the volume of the guitars etc was less heavy. A sort of unplugged light concert. You can hear her singing qualities better because she doesn’t have to give it all to be heard above all the music.
Listen to this album, Nighttime Birds, and to the album Mandylion. So good.

Anneke is the first one, after her, many goddess of melodic, symphonic and power metal came to this world, and she was their inspiration. In spite of the band used to play a simple kind of metal, in Mandylion and Night Time Birds albums specially, Anneke's voice filled every space with incredible atmospheres, simply wonderful. Unfortunately there's not too many good quality videos of the band from 90's, but if you try some live performance of this song or any other of those albums, you'll know what I'm talking about. 🤘

I fell in love with the voice of Anneke the first time I heard "Strange Machines". I play the DVD's "A Noise Severe" and "A Sound Relief" on a regular base. The song "Wonder" from Agua de Annique helped me through a rough period. And her collabs with Arjen Lucassen, the man behind Ayreon. Her collabs with Devin Townsend, remember "Ih Ah!" and "Grace" to name some. And her countless other projects. She is a lovely person, down to earth, humble, she has a lot of humour too (ua-cam.com/video/QNEYGTN_-30/v-deo.html --> so beautiful). If she stood in front of me, I go on the floor and bend the knee for Queen Anneke and pledge her my loyalty. No doubt about that.

So hilarious to see the expression of Wolf when becoming gradually aware of the great vocals and personality of Anneke and the music of The Gathering. Who are putting out class act albums from 1996 on and helped from the beginning to define goth rock, and did evolve from that as a band. It resembles, I guess, mine. LOL When for the first time confronted with her vocals as with those of Siouxsie (Siouxsie & The Banshees), Ian Curtis (Joy Division) in the late 1970's and early 1980's and Johnny Cash, Eva Cassidy and Natalie Merchant end 1990's. Since then I did not have that kind of reactions anymore. And now I see it on Wolfs's face. LOL.
She (Anneke) did so many admirable stuff since the beginning. Gotten better and better during the years. During her time with The Gathering, in her groups (Aqua d'Annique and her current band Vuur) and solo (the internet is full of live shows of her solo) and in collaberations (with amongst others Devin Townsend, Ayreon etc etc).
