Thanks for the measurements. Both woofer and tweeter should be down about 3~6dB at the x-over point BTW, and ideally have the same slopes, otherwise the phase tracking isn't going to be great and you're going to end up with dips and peaks through the x-over region. Your measurements show mismatched slopes (ugh - that couldn't be cleared up via DSP?) and the bass drivers showing a ~5kHz peak almost exactly where the combined response shows a dip. Hmm.... I wonder what does the phase response of the two drivers look like in that area? 1/4 wavelength @5.5kHz is around 1.5 cm. If there's anything around the tweeter that resembles that dimension or multiples of it (what's the diameter of that mounting ring around the tweeter, for example, or how high is the tweeter mounted wrt the baffle that's holding the woofer), it could be contributing to diffracting issues affecting the response around that frequency. REW is a great free s/w tool for these types of measurements. I also use it and the "transfer function" method to minimize room effects on the measured bass response to get a much better idea of what the response would look like under anechoic conditions. Great stuff, thanks for the measurements!
keep in mind both woofer and tweeter were active during the measurement so a little of the woofer past that crossover will be the tweeter, not much but its worth keeping in mind i couldnt actually measure them 100% isolated like you would normally. so just right channel active but both tweeter and woofer active. of course not ideal but i wasnt going to open this thing up 🤪
@@alanrossreviews Ah, that explains some of the stuff in the measurements, then. I thought that the drivers that weren't being measured were disconnected during each measurement. The output from the tweeters can be significantly reduced during woofer measurement by taping some thick cardboard over them. Sadly, that won't be enough to block the output from the woofers. Seeing that you've already got the grille off, if I'd reached that stage, I would have definitely given into the temptation of unscrewing one of the woofers to see if it could be easily disconnected.... :-)
well i really only wanted to find the roll off for the woofer and the rollup for the tweeter, it didnt really effect that portion but yeah you are right, with more thought i could have done a better job 👍

Thank You for this video. To the contrary belief, I did not like this speaker specially for deep bass. I bought this yesterday, and I am disappointed. well you would need to reduce mids and highs but this speaker does have issues on some units not producing bass. you might want to try returning it for a replacement to see if yours is faulty.
Alan..in regards to sound signature I'm just curious about something..the way you've described the sound signature of the tribit stormbox blast..(to me) it seems as though the sound from the TSB is similar to the Doss soundbox XL..I know the doss is a slightly older speaker and not as big (obviously) lol but I own the Doss and was just curious if in short the tribit stormbox blast is a bigger Doss soundbox XL..I wish you could understand how important to the audio/speaker community..YIUR THE BEST BROTHER!!!..thank you for all you do.

i think so, i wouldnt pick up up the boom when i can pick up the blast. but they are different price and size. but overall i would say the blast is pound for pound champ.
Thank you so much for doin this Alan, so its partly because of the tweeter and most probably some added cancelation at the 5.5hz region. Should respond well to eq as its already well pass that x-over region. A quick question, how did you pry that pesky grill off? I want remove that ugly light bar regardless.
There’s a chance that Tribit could remedy this by retuning the tweeters using minor adjustments to the lower trebles through a future firmware upgrade.
@@alanrossreviews It’s the sort of thing companies like Apple, Google and Samsung do all the time. So it would be the logical thing to do. Interesting topic👍 The Stormbox blast really is a nice speaker and most likely the next Boombox I'm getting... well 2 of em😅 but I doint think 2 of em can beat a Boombox 3 but most likely a 2
Much better stereo seperation but the dips on the Tribit will make it lose outdoors in my prediction. I still have to see for myself and I also realized the Boombox 3 is a lot better than it seems to be on reviews
well yeah, ultimately the bb3 will go louder with more bass but at matched volumes really its only right at the deep end where the bb3 can out bass the blast.
Definitely lol I did relised 38 to 32 Hz in music where thoes frequencies are pushed it comes to life if your in a a decent sized room where the Boombox 2 just dies off completely. But is the UK still out of Stormbox blast I'm the US we only went out of stock once
another outstanding inside behind the scences from???? THE ALAN ROSS LAB!! HOWEVA!! ive seen reviews of the jblboombox3 against the blast. and the blast cant go down as low as the jbl. FRANKEN BOOOOOOOMMMM!!!! and people said i was a drunkard for putting jbl boombox2 woofers bought off ebay and put them in a xg500..... it works and sounds killer!! JUST PAY SEPARATE SHIPPING AND PROCESSING FEES. fair middling... lmfao!!!
we need that video 🤞 yeah much like the bb2 the blast cant go quite as deep but sounds fuller than the bb3. the problem for the bb3 is that mids push, which means when you just adjust volume to your ears your gonna end up with less bass than a more level sound. the blast vs bb3 result will depend on exactly how you normalise the loudness.
Audiophile shouldn't enter the conversation with these types of speakers. You're up against the laws of physics. And unless you know what Thiele-Small calculations are, i don't want to hear it. Check that out and make your own set of speakers for at home. Save the BT speakers for the backyard and the beach.
They sound quite different and both do deep bass but the bb3 a little more. The blast sounds fuller, the bb3 has a problematic 700 hz peak than is masking a lot of upper bass. Neither kills the other, they simply sound different and one or the other will suit your taste. The problem for the bb3 is you can get two blasts for the price of one bb3
@@alanrossreviews ive listened to the stormbox. Im being a little bios towards the tribit because some people say some stupid stuff but i dont think its a bad speaker.. I think that it has potential but this "fullness" comes not from bass, it comes from boosted lower mids.. and lots of brands do that because the speaker cannot achieve enough deep bass to beat other contenders, so lots of people buy this as fullness.. It has similar craft to the boombox 2, Double woofers that play lows and mids, and tweeters. But in the boombox 3 i can actually hear the 3 way system with no lots of crossovers... My main setting on the boombox 3 is mids and highs on +2 and bass on normal. Indoors its the perfect setting for under 60% volume And it sounds better than the tribit indoors It doesnt have that deep ratteling feel like the boombox has.
clearly bb3 suits your taste which really is the point. the difference in deep bass is not huge. its 50hz and down where the bb3 takes over but it does have stronger mid bass in xbass mode. in xbass mode only those low notes really make the difference, bb3 having that rumble factor which is a bit muted on the blast. but as i said, two blasts or one bb3? for me its a no brainer.

I thought I knew you. When I see a man in a purple wig with a boom box I do not expect him to be the kind of guy who would amputate party lights. We can hire a team of engineers to do some re-modeling of the enclosure and rewrite the firmware to fix this in DSP. But getting rid of the lights is overreacting.
and how often do you see a man in a purple wig?? 🙈 yeah my 80s glitter ball with be returning soon 🥳🥳
I can enjoy the throne for best sub $200 until you get the W-King T11 (2.32 firmware)

Since when Cyndi Lauper make speaker review Alan?
Girls just wanna have fun 😱
@@alanrossreviews should I buy this speaker?there is only one left
for me its the best value right now.
Interesting topic👍 The Stormbox blast really is a nice speaker and most likely the next Boombox I'm getting... well 2 of em😅 but I doint think 2 of em can beat a Boombox 3 but most likely a 2
2 Tribit's should run circles around Boombox 3, also the fact that you can separate them for bigger sound stage and they are still cheaper...
Much better stereo seperation but the dips on the Tribit will make it lose outdoors in my prediction. I still have to see for myself and I also realized the Boombox 3 is a lot better than it seems to be on reviews
well yeah, ultimately the bb3 will go louder with more bass but at matched volumes really its only right at the deep end where the bb3 can out bass the blast.
the bb3 goes loud only really due to its mids push, without that its hardly better than the bb2.
Definitely lol I did relised 38 to 32 Hz in music where thoes frequencies are pushed it comes to life if your in a a decent sized room where the Boombox 2 just dies off completely. But is the UK still out of Stormbox blast I'm the US we only went out of stock once
Hi Alan just got a strange message from you saying that u have selected me as your winner and to contact you, has someone been hacked??

another outstanding inside behind the scences from???? THE ALAN ROSS LAB!! HOWEVA!! ive seen reviews of the jblboombox3 against the blast. and the blast cant go down as low as the jbl. HOWEVA?? the motion plus mids and highs? very good, INDEED!! i say take the blast, jbl, boomplus and combine them for the????
Round pegs in square holes?
2:01 I'm sorry but you aren't a geezer - we clearly see a beautiful barbie girl, don't try to deceive us

almost....................😁
Audiophile shouldn't enter the conversation with these types of speakers. You're up against the laws of physics. And unless you know what Thiele-Small calculations are, i don't want to hear it. Check that out and make your own set of speakers for at home. Save the BT speakers for the backyard and the beach.
Thats the point, the word audiophile has lost its meaning. Its all things to all people now.
What the hell is going on here?
F
It aint killing the boombox 3 thats for sure xD
Maybe the boombox 2
It has similar craft to the boombox 2,
Double woofers that play lows and mids, and tweeters.
But in the boombox 3 i can actually hear the 3 way system with no lots of crossovers...
My main setting on the boombox 3 is mids and highs on +2 and bass on normal.
Indoors its the perfect setting for under 60% volume
And it sounds better than the tribit indoors
It doesnt have that deep ratteling feel like the boombox has.
clearly bb3 suits your taste which really is the point. the difference in deep bass is not huge. its 50hz and down where the bb3 takes over but it does have stronger mid bass in xbass mode. in xbass mode only those low notes really make the difference, bb3 having that rumble factor which is a bit muted on the blast. but as i said, two blasts or one bb3? for me its a no brainer.
The dip is the limitation of the tweeter? Hum. Then it's a cheap tweeter!!
Maybe, im just giving some possible reasons
The only fools who buy this crap over the JBL, are dirt poor sheep who take their mom to McDonald's on mother's day.
The only fools who buy this crap over the jbl are people who know the jbl ain't worth the extra $300*

If you bought the shitty sounding tribit, you definitely take your mom to McDonald's on mother's day. Anyone who takes mom to McDonald's, is a low-life degenerate.

Yes, it says HONESTY and INTEGRITY.
Your reply says LIE LIE LIE.
Flossy Carter, the foremost expert on Bluetooth speakers, has eloquently reviewed both the JBL boombox 3 and the tribit.
And it's a no-brainer, the JBL beats it.
However, to be fair, weak minds with no brains, will still buy the tribit.
And, again, weak minds with no brains, do indeed take their mom to McDonald's and taco bell, on mother's day.
@@bradhuskers lmafo are you mad because there's a speaker as good as the JBL for less if that's the case *pathetic*
