People like you and your honest unbiased reviews have a lot to answer for. After watching your channel along with other reviewers (some father and son team) l decided to take the plunge and return to biking after over a 20 year gap (last bike was a ZX7R). After watching your honesty with the classic 350 I went out and bought one. I didn’t want a powerful bike as after a non motorcycling accident every limb has some sort of metalwork holding me together I have limited strength in my arms and limited movement in one ankle / foot. My little 350 suits me down to the ground and is more than fast enough in the real world. I cannot thank you enough for making me take this decision, keep up the good work.
I agree. I bought a GT650 after 8 years of no motorbike. A few vids from Stuart and Freddie caused me to purchase my beauty. Deffo have a lot to answer for ;)
Hitchcocks is definitely the main company for any Royal Enfield owner, old or modern. You may find some parts cheaper elsewhere, but I don't think there's anywhere else with such a wide range of good quality spares, upgrades & accessories. My experience with them over the last five years has been top-notch.
If only I could get their site ( the original one) to work for me then we could obtain parts and upgrades which draw a blank stare from my local dealer...
Regarding the Classic 350 getting better with age, I couldn't agree more! I've got over 5,200 miles on my '22 Classic 350 and it is a bike transformed by mileage. Around 2,400 miles It started running noticeably better. The engine started to hum along beautifully, sounding deeper, smoother, somehow "richer". I wasn't sure if it was my imagination or what but I actually made note of it in my riding journal (yes, I keep a riding journal). And while I have added some of the usual mods (DNA air filter, decat pipe, FuelX Lite) - this change in the performance was long before I swapped-in the decat pipe and long after the air filter and FuelX device, and it really seemed to come out of nowhere. The bike was transformed! Ok ok, I'm being a bit poetic here, but I can honestly say that over time my Classic 350 has absolutely gotten better and better.

I've owned and ridden bikes from 500cc to 955cc since the late 1970s. Twins, triples, fours. While on holiday in Crete I hired a little Yamaha Serrow 225 single and had enormous fun riding it around the winding roads into the hills of the island. I'd be interested to have a go on a Royal Enfield of the 350cc to 450cc models. I can see the practicality for town and countryside riding where it's easier having a lighter bike and you no longer feel the need to race around.
Owner reviews are best, once the bike is old enough for the shine to have worn off. Most buyers won’t admit they made a mistake in the early stages of ownership, unless the bike is a real dog. If they still like the bike after a couple of years, it’s probably a good ‘un.
You're not wrong, Stu. My Meteor is now at 7k miles (must count as more that the UK as I live on the Isle of Man so all backroads mileage, no droning dual carriageways) and is really so much nicer now. DNA filter/intake kit and free-er flowing silencer, but still has the cat and under engine box as it is an early one. Love it, BMW still in the garage! Wifey bought a Hunter recently, and at 1500 miles is still noticeably tight, but freeing up steadily - it is however faster than the Meteor as it is noticeably lighter. It'll be interesting to see how it frees up more as 'summer' (pah - rain-er) goes on.
"Carrying a Pillion has really loosened it up" That's a great (positive) observation. Whereas I found this reduces the chain and sprockets into a pile of scrap, very quickly.
Stu, as always a terrific video. As per Foxxy's video, I got myself a FuelX Lite, but I am not doing the modification until after my first service. A comment here perked up my ears, today I did a 40 mile ride on my classic, and as every ride so far noticed an improvement every ride. But today, the bike actually felt like it wanted to keep excellerating. I resisted that and kept it with in the recommended speed, but it was obvious the bike wanted to keep on revving. First time that happened.
Morning Stu. The name, "Classic 650 Twin" has apparently been registered by Royal Enfield so we'll have to see. August would be good timing for us as Kelly and I contemplate adding a bigger bike early next year to keep Ernie the Classic 350 company. 😊 You're spot on regarding the marked and tangible improvement of the Classic 350 beyond 3000 miles. I'd even go as far as to say that mile on mile the changes are more apparent than at any other time in it's life cycle to date. I've a shade over 3000 miles now on Ernie and it's particularly noticeble after a long run with pillion aboard. I've had far too many bikes to say it's imaginary too. The spin-up and smoothness have improved immeasurably. The exhaust and induction noise are definitely that of a motor which is happier to work hard and the feeling of maximum torque at the sweet spot is more pronounced too. The suspension is now at it's best and the brakes very efficient for what they are. The latter assumes you've kept GT85 away from the discs though - ask me how I know 😂
Stu, have been watching your content for what seems like years now, and I am never disappointed. It's very obvious to me how much thought and work you put into this endeavour. You are my go to channel of which I wait eagerly on a weekly basis for the next installment. Your integrety and ceedability is beyond question; backed up by honesty. However I would advise you take your wife on holiday somewhere and just be together, she probably deserves it! Take care uncle.
Had my classic 350 since October 2022…ride it throughout the year Mon-Fri for work and then 210-300 km one day round trips to do umpiring and the odd summer camping tour…..never skipped a beat….
I agree wholeheartedly. The bike he’s riding at the start of this video is the Himalayan Scram. I picked up a new one earlier this year and find it absolutely terrible after less than 1000 miles. I know the Himalayan is beloved by so many, but I simply don’t get why and never will especially after having owned one.
@@thegreenman2030I test rode a second hand Scram with approx 5000 miles locally at a dealer and after 25 minutes couldn't wait to hand it back. Generally felt like an oversized cheap Chinese 125. I found the seat odd and constantly pushed me forward, engine was in no way a 'thumper' as everyone on UA-cam describes and in fact was completely devoid of any character at all really, sounding terrible especially at higher rpm. It was a shame because I really wanted to love it, with a view to doing a bit of commuting and green laning on.
@@lewgarner8834 I have exactly the same feelings. It’s in no way a true single cylinder thumper and when I say it lacks character I get told that the charm of the Himalayan is because it has character. It’s like riding a moped with knobby tires on it.
never a truer word spoken, there's no absolutes, and while i wouldn't have any RE given myself, a lot of folks seem to like them so good luck to them, they'll need it haha
I've owned a lot of bikes over the years and all but two were used one of which is a recent purchase of an XR 150L. I absolutely love this little bike. Great video Stuart
Another informative and pleasurable video Stuart. As for road test deception my personal feeling is that is more BS, than sliced bread. Pandering to egos both the road testers and the potential buyers the machine is aimed at. I totally agree with your statement of improvement with mileage as my 350 is maturing like a fine wine. My only disapointment is the drive chain seems to be made of lentils and needs replacing.
My wife bought a 2021 meteor a few weeks after the UK launch. After having a go, I was so charmed that I got one for myself. Nicola's is up to 3. 5k miles and mine is just shy of 12k. You are quite right in saying that they improve noticeably with use. We have been able to make an interesting comparison. While mine remains stock, the other has a DNA air filter and Delkevic exhaust system. These additions have given a significant boost to the way the bike picks up. One of these days, I'll get round to changing them out on mine too. We are off this morning for a couple of days on a short tour round North Devon. I couldn't think of two bikes I'd rather be taking.
Totally agree about riding two up. My wife has been pillion in both my old 500 and new 350. She commented how much nicer a place it was to be. Smoother ride, better seat (we also have the touring seats), smoother gear change and less vibration all round. Also said she has more room.
Hi Stuart, I have the pleasure to own both a RE Meteor 350 & a Bullet 500 Trials. I have done 15,500 trouble free miles on the Meteor in three years. The J series engine to a real gem that gets better with use. I have put 12,000 miles on the Bullet in about the same time frame & that is running beautifully & continues to improve with use. I enjoy your entertaining & knowledgeable no nonsense video's. Excellent.
Been out on my SM 650 today in the Spanish Sun, what a sweet engine and gearbox. Real chicken soup for the soul. Ive only covered 1500km in 6 months, covered that in 5 weeks on my new adventure bike. That said the SM 650 is my favourite ride. ✌️
Loved the comments on the Hitchcocks parts book - I had my Meteor 350 off the road in Dallas TX for weeks because the assemblies were out of stock and parts manger couldn't source them - I managed self source the parts as singles from Hitchcocks because there parts book also shows the single parts make up each each assembly and they had them in stock as singles. Another great video Stuart!
As you said it in one of the last vids, people are sick of huge adv bikes.. I've decided to test ride and eventually to buy the new CF moto 450 mt .. The bike look more then perfect with more then enough power for everything. The Chinese are deemed to take over design wise, RE is on a big rise too.. The big 4 have been too conservative for at least 20 years.
I agree with you regarding running in a J-series engine. My Hunter is a different bike after 2,000mls, so smooth and responsive. I can imagine a person being disappointed with a short test ride with a low mileage engine. I find your videos interesting and informative, thanks👍
Have you seen or plan on trying the COC customs springer seat base for your Bobber Black , Stuart ? I’ve put my name down for the version 2 , that will be compatible with aftermarket rear shocks. Apparently the modification is a comfort and back-saving game changer ….
OK, Stuart, I took the plunge and bought a pre-registered BSA Gold Star 650, it is one of the first demonstrators registered in December 2022 with 241 miles on the clock. The registration mark has BSA in it as all the original demonstrators had. Mine is the top of the range Legacy Edition, weather permitting, I'm looking forward to some great summer rides.

Thanks for this Stu. Enjoyed the channel update and recap of what's going on. Good point re the way the smaller engines improve over time - could even be worth RE's time to include a well run in version along with the usual gaggle of new machines when they do their launches, especially for the smaller models. I like the idea of the Hitchcock service kits but I don't think they exist in Australia, and time/cost of postage if you get the Hitchcock kit is just prohibitive. Looking forward to your views on the Himi 450 and the Bullet 350. Cheers.
I agree with your comments on road tests with regard to reviews of new machines. The Interceptor 650 also kept improving as the miles built up & now with 20k under its wheels, still performing admirably. Have seen the parts section on Hitchcock’s site, a really useful resource. Haven’t seen many Scram 411 on the road compared to the other models. If the 650 classic comes out, does that mean the Interceptor will be departing to make garage space?
Very interesting what you say about these little singles loosening up. My Himalayan 411 is the smallest engined bike I’ve owned. The difference in engine performance from new to now with 7k on it is amazing. I’d actually say it only started to plateau at around 4-5 k. Quite surprising. I was told before I bought it this would be the case but just how different it is now to the bike I rode away from Cooperb when I first had it it's remarkable. I see so many for sale with only a few hundred miles on the clock. Now I don’t know the circumstances of the people who chop them in but I’m sure a little more patience for many will have rewarded them with a great little bike.
My tiny Honda 125 wasn't properly loosened up until about 10,000 miles. With a smaller engine I also think that the quality and suitability of the oil makes a more noticeable difference. For example fully synthetic being better than semi synthetic or mineral oil. The less friction in a small engine the less heat and the more power to the back wheel.
I now have 2300km on my Hunter 350. It vibrates less past 80km/h compared to the beginning, it also gets to 100km/h faster. Initially I was worried that I would not be able to comfortably use the bike for highway riding but not anymore. Running in was tedious but rewarding like you said.
Of course, The Classic 500 needs no tappet adjustment as it has hydraulic self adjusting tappets. Lot's to look forward to on your channel. I own a 411 Himalayan and whilst I have no intention to part with it, a review of the new 450 will be interesting, as will any Classic 650 which may be released. I have a Fuel X Lite waiting to be put on my Classic 500, so a review of the one for the all new 350 will be interesting. They've obviously managed to get around those Euro 5 ECU restrictions. Parts book online is brilliant. My c5 classic 500 just crossed 11,000 miles. It's running even better than it did before. If you really want an improvement the Hitchcock stainless exhaust pipes are great. It's like a new motorcycle. I should have done this right away.
I’ve still been waiting on RE to announce the possibility of a 650 scrambler, it’s been rumored for a long time now. Been trying to hold off of buying an interceptor and just customizing it myself, but they seem to come out with every type of ride with that 650 engine except for a scrambler 😂
Fully agree with your thoughts about the 350 J series - my Hunter has just over 1500 on the clock, it feels better every time I take it out and I'm getting 98+mpg going 'down the lanes'
Great video Stuart Some good advice about oil change and regardless of miles . excellent views through the country with the fields either side could you tell me and the other viewers where exactly these roads are ,and the road with the trees on either side of the road it seems to go on for miles ,would love to come up and ride them during the summer thanks
6500km+ on my Hunter now and the engine is just lovely, much smoother and revs eagerly. Lots of fun getting to work. Looking forward to your opinion on the Himalayan 450 Stuart, may be my next Royal Enfield.
Someone below commented on the "Classic 650 twin" as being the name for the new bike,I have seen an Indian patent application form on line with the name "Constellation" on it which would make sense.The two original big twins were the Constellation and the Interceptor so would keep to the script,as for the 350's our classic just gets better and quicker so it's not the odd bike doing this.I have fitted Hiscocks Cat replacement pipe and a DNA air filter cover keeping the standard silencer and can totally recommend these mods,they give a noticable increase in performance.

Stuart please review the BRIXTON Cromwell 1200. It’s a parallel twin 1222cc engine made in China but making a big impact ! Has quality part all around like NISSIN calipers, Italian throttle bodies and many interesting bits
When I had my new speedo because of the well-known problem, I asked my dealer for a certificate of the old mileage, took a photo of the clock before he removed it and entered it into my service book. Therefore, when I sell it, there will be no doubt as to the correct mileage.
I just hope they get the classic 650 right. So far the spy photos don’t look encouraging with the shape of the fuel tank and toolboxes being all wrong, but this could just be RE holding their cards close to the vest.

I have been riding motorcycles since 1997 and am now 64. During this time I have only owned 4 bikes. A 125 shooter, 650 Fazer, 1250 bandit, and another 1250 bandit. The last 3 were all bought second hand costing less than £3000. My question is why do people keep buying motorcycles, especially new ones? I love my big bandit and would be very happy if it was the last bike I ever bought.
I've owned 15 or so motorcycles over the years. Some have turned out to be much less appealing than I originally thought. My increasing age and diminishing strength have changed my tastes as well. I can't explain anyone else's buying preferences. As for the new vs used, I have bought and been pleased with both, but price (of new) and availability (of used) play into the decision.

Hi Stuart, what's your thoughts on Royal Enfield changing the service schedules of the valve adjustments? I purchased a new Meteor this year and just had the first service completed and was informed of the changes made, do you personal think the valves should be checked and adjusted? all i can imagine is they have changed to a harder material for the valve seats. so it doesnt compress as much in the first few miles. either way im sure they know their engines!

My Hunter gets better and better! 10.000km , changed the air filter to the DNA. First it seemed to use more fuel but after 2.000 it return to average. Im really happy with my small bike.
Will there be room in the queue for the RE Classic 650 alongside you? The Super Meteor and Shotgun are fine-looking beasts, but the Classic really would look nice next to my 500. Definitely got to wait for that.
Im having the same experience on my ktm 390 adv. It's at 1200 miles, and the engine is getting better and better each couple hundred miles. Before, it got quite viby between 6k and 7k revs where the peak torque is at. Now, that vibe is not as noticeable.
Hi, Stuart. I have a question for you regarding the service intervals of the Classic 350. I have read in a Facebook group that RE have updated the service guidelines, stating that the valve clearance now needs to be done at 6k miles instead of the current 300 miles first service. Could you please bring some enlightment on the topic? Thanks in advance.
I commute on the RE Hunter 350. That being said, I rarely do anything else on it because, let's face it, engine power doesn't serve only top speed or quick acceleration. Motorcycle is a tool for a job and these 350s are great tools, just not for anything faster than back roads.
@@stuartfillingham The 350 doesn't go faster than 75 miles per hour on a flat road, 63(?+-) uphill and that's what it is. It does it reliably, cheaply, comfortably, it looks awesome, sounds even better, all of which is great. But traffic on some roads moves faster than what this bike is capable of, or even what is comfortable. It can do 60 all day long but riding 70 for longer than a few minutes feels abusive (just my oppinion..) So I don't ride on faster roads with this bike. Not just motorways. Feel free to disagree with my riding habits!
Once you've ridden them a few times it becomes a bit same-old same-old. They swallow all your money. They need constant attention. Who would have thought motorcycles and wives would have so much in common.....

Hi I've just found your channel due to your enfield classic 350 content could I trouble you to try and answer a question? I'm looking to get back into bikes after 10 years of not having one the last time I rode it was on a bandit 1250 I'm like the look of the classic but I'm worried about the power loss from my last one do you think I may regret the purchase of such bike I'm now 49 would a different bike be more suitable any advice appreciated.
Quick question. I ride the same roads as you on a classic 350. When you set the rear shocks did you click 1/2 notches and did you wind them back when you didn't have a pillion ? Does it affect it without pillion? Awesome work. Keep it up 👍
I think it's a topic you should expand on. I've seen reviews of Yamaha MT07 being advertised as a very good "beginner bike". Lots of them. And that is not true...
Morning Stuart, I have a technical question for you. I am having issues with my EVAP on my 500 Classic. Is it simple to remove it? I keep getting fuel tricking out of it, and my bike is running rough. Many thanks Jim.
i would get it in to a dealership and have it checked out. probably just a loose hose they are only push fit for the most part or there may be a blockage in the system somewhere.
Hi Jim , i have a 2018 Classic 500. i had trouble similar issues to yourself. Did you fill your petrol tank to the brim? I did and fuel was forced out into the EVAP filter down by the swingarm pivot and onto the ground, and also back into the fuel injector making the engine run rich.
@@JimDiesel71 Hi again Jim. Also, when the petrol warms up in the sun, it expands and does as mentioned. How to cure, either go for a reasonable run (if bike runs) to reduce fuel level in tank. I removed the EVAP system completely as The Charcoal canister by the swingarm was contaminated. These were unavailable as a spare at the the time ( I don't know about now). If you want to go down this route , let me know and i will explain how i did it.
Why do motorcyclists do so few miles? I bought a brand new Honda CG 125 a few years ago and used it nearly everyday unless I was walking somewhere for the day, sick or it was icy or snowy. I did the same mileage as a car driver...about 10000 in the first year. Why can't people use motorcycles as everyday transport rather than playthings...what's the problem. I know it's cold in winter but it's cold walking, it's cold standing at a bus stop ..at least the cold on a motorcycle is more short lived. I live 13 miles from Aberystwyth with free motorcycle parking in the centre of town( the biggest place for a 70 mile radius) and there are never any large engined (plaything/toy) motorcycles in the winter (total waste of money). Come on everyone...use the thing and save money, your mental health, the planet and have some fun
I have not owned a car in 4 years and use my Royal Enfield daily for everything...saved alot of money and Gas.... heated gear and Gore Tex... no big deal....
I could nt wait and bought a intenrceptor mark 2 (the silver with red stripe one) however... my love is with the classic, but I need extra power for driving in Madrid city highways... 90 and 100km/h allowed, I need to get in and out safely.
Hey Stu, I have an interceptor 650 which is terrible for pillions out of box. I have added rear footpeg relocation kit, Deluxe Touring seat and Backrest. Now my gf loves it. We did 200km trip in a day. No complaints.
Hi Stuart… just a point on the numbers of viewers who aren’t subscribed, or not showing as such in your data. For a while now, I’ve been watching your regular bulletins on my ‘new’ (to me) TV box, which unlike my old one, has UA-cam connectivity built in.. However, it doesn’t give the opportunity to ‘like’ subscribe, or post comments. I wonder how many other watchers are using different devices which have different degrees of interactivity (or even visibility to you as originator). Also, while still showing as ‘subscribed’ on my desktop (iMac), I only get notifications as a red bell in the corner of the YT site… and even then it’s sporadic… but never as a message in my e-mail inbox (unlike if I get a reply to a comment on other YT channels… even to comments I’ve made years before). I guess UA-cam and the internet in general has a lot of little foibles we’ll never fully understand. As a suggestion for future pieces: how about comparisons … price, etc. … between accessories bought from the mainstream, like Tec, Motone, Baak, and Mr.H etc., and seemingly identical items from Ebay , BangGood, and AliExpress at often a fraction of the price - e.g. Motone’s ‘exclusive’ Aero tank top luggage rack, which they sell at around £70 with post and VAT, but can be bought from numerous AE sellers at around £20 - £25 inc VAT and carriage… Adjustable levers sold by several specialists at a premium price can be bought direct from the Chinese manufacturer… FXCNC… via AE at massive savings. At least Hitchcock’s don’t try to pretend stuff’s their own, though their ‘Enfield Precision’ silencers are re-branded PoweRage units from India, with the new brand etched on by the factory (and are excellent quality, as you’ve found on your 650… I've got the PoweRage branded versions on mine, matched to UK made 'Stratos' header pipes, which are excellent and give the 650 twin even better torque characteristics). Just some thoughts… Keep riding safe, and keep on keeping it ‘real’ (and keep the 'political' episodes coming. We mustn't get complacent, or we'll be buggered).
many of the items you buy from others are copies. Motone make all their own products including the aero rack, I know because I was involved in its development and prototype testing, The copies arrived later.

When I see one of these guys take a brand new classic 350 for less than 100 miles directly on the highway for a top speed "mesure", I suffer too much to see the end and I NEVER come back on that channel. Can't understand some people. You find a way to increase subs that works for you - & you should stick to it. Can only think that the detractors work in the public sector & have no pressure to increase "sales".
Motorcycling journalism is ridden with peer guilt complex. It's like the emporors clothes. I have a BMW g310r widely written off as a commuter bike. I have a history of racing on four wheels on karts and cars even being offered a drive by a bttc team manager. I've raced and beaten many drivers who have gone on to win national championships. I refuse anyone who claims my bike is not a sports bike. It has 35bhp and weighs 158kg same as an rd250lc and similar to the Moto morini three and a half. I can ride along with any bike if any power on b roads without losing ground ... Up to 80mph at which speed I'm happing to stick and let riders if faster bikes carry on. . And here's the point. Fast bikes are only faster once you get into the illegal speeds beyond 80mph uo to that point you will see my bike snapping your heels. The obsession with speed that is continually pushed through the media is the reason that motorcycle licence laws will never change anytime soon.
Too many of the journalists rate bikes on how fast they are, and what power they've got. Completely missing the point of most of them......Dissing small capacity bikes because they're not powerful is poor journalism......the problem is a lot of their readers believe them.
People like you and your honest unbiased reviews have a lot to answer for. After watching your channel along with other reviewers (some father and son team) l decided to take the plunge and return to biking after over a 20 year gap (last bike was a ZX7R). After watching your honesty with the classic 350 I went out and bought one. I didn’t want a powerful bike as after a non motorcycling accident every limb has some sort of metalwork holding me together I have limited strength in my arms and limited movement in one ankle / foot. My little 350 suits me down to the ground and is more than fast enough in the real world. I cannot thank you enough for making me take this decision, keep up the good work.
I agree. I bought a GT650 after 8 years of no motorbike. A few vids from Stuart and Freddie caused me to purchase my beauty.

Hitchcocks is definitely the main company for any Royal Enfield owner, old or modern. You may find some parts cheaper elsewhere, but I don't think there's anywhere else with such a wide range of good quality spares, upgrades & accessories. My experience with them over the last five years has been top-notch.
If only I could get their site ( the original one) to work for me then we could obtain parts and upgrades which draw a blank stare from my local dealer...
Regarding the Classic 350 getting better with age, I couldn't agree more! I've got over 5,200 miles on my '22 Classic 350 and it is a bike transformed by mileage. Around 2,400 miles It started running noticeably better. The engine started to hum along beautifully, sounding deeper, smoother, somehow "richer". I wasn't sure if it was my imagination or what but I actually made note of it in my riding journal (yes, I keep a riding journal). And while I have added some of the usual mods (DNA air filter, decat pipe, FuelX Lite) - this change in the performance was long before I swapped-in the decat pipe and long after the air filter and FuelX device, and it really seemed to come out of nowhere. The bike was transformed! Ok ok, I'm being a bit poetic here, but I can honestly say that over time my Classic 350 has absolutely gotten better and better.

I've owned and ridden bikes from 500cc to 955cc since the late 1970s. Twins, triples, fours. While on holiday in Crete I hired a little Yamaha Serrow 225 single and had enormous fun riding it around the winding roads into the hills of the island.
I'd be interested to have a go on a Royal Enfield of the 350cc to 450cc models. I can see the practicality for town and countryside riding where it's easier having a lighter bike and you no longer feel the need to race around.

Owner reviews are best, once the bike is old enough for the shine to have worn off. Most buyers won’t admit they made a mistake in the early stages of ownership, unless the bike is a real dog. If they still like the bike after a couple of years, it’s probably a good ‘un.

You're not wrong, Stu. My Meteor is now at 7k miles (must count as more that the UK as I live on the Isle of Man so all backroads mileage, no droning dual carriageways) and is really so much nicer now. DNA filter/intake kit and free-er flowing silencer, but still has the cat and under engine box as it is an early one. Love it, BMW still in the garage! Wifey bought a Hunter recently, and at 1500 miles is still noticeably tight, but freeing up steadily - it is however faster than the Meteor as it is noticeably lighter. It'll be interesting to see how it frees up more as 'summer' (pah - rain-er) goes on.

Whereas I found this reduces the chain and sprockets into a pile of scrap, very quickly.

Stu, as always a terrific video. As per Foxxy's video, I got myself a FuelX Lite, but I am not doing the modification until after my first service. A comment here perked up my ears, today I did a 40 mile ride on my classic, and as every ride so far noticed an improvement every ride. But today, the bike actually felt like it wanted to keep excellerating. I resisted that and kept it with in the recommended speed, but it was obvious the bike wanted to keep on revving. First time that happened.
Morning Stu. The name, "Classic 650 Twin" has apparently been registered by Royal Enfield so we'll have to see. August would be good timing for us as Kelly and I contemplate adding a bigger bike early next year to keep Ernie the Classic 350 company. 😊
You're spot on regarding the marked and tangible improvement of the Classic 350 beyond 3000 miles. I'd even go as far as to say that mile on mile the changes are more apparent than at any other time in it's life cycle to date. I've a shade over 3000 miles now on Ernie and it's particularly noticeble after a long run with pillion aboard. I've had far too many bikes to say it's imaginary too. The spin-up and smoothness have improved immeasurably. The exhaust and induction noise are definitely that of a motor which is happier to work hard and the feeling of maximum torque at the sweet spot is more pronounced too. The suspension is now at it's best and the brakes very efficient for what they are. The latter assumes you've kept GT85 away from the discs though - ask me how I know 😂
Same for my 411 Himalayan. Just now approaching 2000 miles. Runs better each time I ride her.
Problem is squeezing in a too-short trip each time.
Stu, have been watching your content for what seems like years now, and I am never disappointed. It's very obvious to me how much thought and work you put into this endeavour. You are my go to channel of which I wait eagerly on a weekly basis for the next installment. Your integrety and ceedability is beyond question; backed up by honesty. However I would advise you take your wife on holiday somewhere and just be together, she probably deserves it! Take care uncle.
Had my classic 350 since October 2022…ride it throughout the year Mon-Fri for work and then 210-300 km one day round trips to do umpiring and the odd summer camping tour…..never skipped a beat….

I agree wholeheartedly. The bike he’s riding at the start of this video is the Himalayan Scram. I picked up a new one earlier this year and find it absolutely terrible after less than 1000 miles. I know the Himalayan is beloved by so many, but I simply don’t get why and never will especially after having owned one.
@@thegreenman2030I test rode a second hand Scram with approx 5000 miles locally at a dealer and after 25 minutes couldn't wait to hand it back. Generally felt like an oversized cheap Chinese 125. I found the seat odd and constantly pushed me forward, engine was in no way a 'thumper' as everyone on UA-cam describes and in fact was completely devoid of any character at all really, sounding terrible especially at higher rpm. It was a shame because I really wanted to love it, with a view to doing a bit of commuting and green laning on.
@@lewgarner8834 I have exactly the same feelings. It’s in no way a true single cylinder thumper and when I say it lacks character I get told that the charm of the Himalayan is because it has character. It’s like riding a moped with knobby tires on it.
never a truer word spoken, there's no absolutes, and while i wouldn't have any RE given myself, a lot of folks seem to like them so good luck to them, they'll need it haha

Another informative and pleasurable video Stuart. As for road test deception my personal feeling is that is more BS, than sliced bread. Pandering to egos both the road testers and the potential buyers the machine is aimed at.
I totally agree with your statement of improvement with mileage as my 350 is maturing like a fine wine.
My only disapointment is the drive chain seems to be made of lentils and needs replacing.
My wife bought a 2021 meteor a few weeks after the UK launch. After having a go, I was so charmed that I got one for myself. Nicola's is up to 3. 5k miles and mine is just shy of 12k. You are quite right in saying that they improve noticeably with use. We have been able to make an interesting comparison. While mine remains stock, the other has a DNA air filter and Delkevic exhaust system. These additions have given a significant boost to the way the bike picks up. One of these days, I'll get round to changing them out on mine too. We are off this morning for a couple of days on a short tour round North Devon. I couldn't think of two bikes I'd rather be taking.

My wife has been pillion in both my old 500 and new 350.
She commented how much nicer a place it was to be.
Smoother ride, better seat (we also have the touring seats), smoother gear change and less vibration all round. Also said she has more room.
Hi Stuart, I have the pleasure to own both a RE Meteor 350 & a Bullet 500 Trials. I have done 15,500 trouble free miles on the Meteor in three years. The J series engine to a real gem that gets better with use. I have put 12,000 miles on the Bullet in about the same time frame & that is running beautifully & continues to improve with use. I enjoy your entertaining & knowledgeable no nonsense video's. Excellent.

Been out on my SM 650 today in the Spanish Sun, what a sweet engine and gearbox. Real chicken soup for the soul. Ive only covered 1500km in 6 months, covered that in 5 weeks on my new adventure bike. That said the SM 650 is my favourite ride. ✌️
Loved the comments on the Hitchcocks parts book - I had my Meteor 350 off the road in Dallas TX for weeks because the assemblies were out of stock and parts manger couldn't source them - I managed self source the parts as singles from Hitchcocks because there parts book also shows the single parts make up each each assembly and they had them in stock as singles. As you said it in one of the last vids, people are sick of huge adv bikes.. I've decided to test ride and eventually to buy the new CF moto 450 mt .. The bike look more then perfect with more then enough power for everything. The Chinese are deemed to take over design wise, RE is on a big rise too.. The big 4 have been too conservative for at least 20 years.
I agree with you regarding running in a J-series engine. My Hunter is a different bike after 2,000mls, so smooth and responsive. I can imagine a person being disappointed with a short test ride with a low mileage engine. I find your videos interesting and informative, thanks👍

OK, Stuart, I took the plunge and bought a pre-registered BSA Gold Star 650, it is one of the first demonstrators registered in December 2022 with 241 miles on the clock. The registration mark has BSA in it as all the original demonstrators had. Mine is the top of the range Legacy Edition, weather permitting, I'm looking forward to some great summer rides.
Hello Stuart, These 350's, from many reviews, do seem to be day to day do all bikes. I'm seriously tempted, but still in love with my Interceptor 650.

Good point re the way the smaller engines improve over time - could even be worth RE's time to include a well run in version along with the usual gaggle of new machines when they do their launches, especially for the smaller models. I like the idea of the Hitchcock service kits but I don't think they exist in Australia, and time/cost of postage if you get the Hitchcock kit is just prohibitive. Looking forward to your views on the Himi 450 and the Bullet 350. Cheers.
I agree with your comments on road tests with regard to reviews of new machines. The Interceptor 650 also kept improving as the miles built up & now with 20k under its wheels, still performing admirably. Have seen the parts section on Hitchcock’s site, a really useful resource.
Haven’t seen many Scram 411 on the road compared to the other models. If the 650 classic comes out, does that mean the Interceptor will be departing to make garage space?

Very interesting what you say about these little singles loosening up. My Himalayan 411 is the smallest engined bike I’ve owned. The difference in engine performance from new to now with 7k on it is amazing. I’d actually say it only started to plateau at around 4-5 k. Quite surprising. I was told before I bought it this would be the case but just how different it is now to the bike I rode away from Cooperb when I first had it it's remarkable. I see so many for sale with only a few hundred miles on the clock. Now I don’t know the circumstances of the people who chop them in but I’m sure a little more patience for many will have rewarded them with a great little bike.
My tiny Honda 125 wasn't properly loosened up until about 10,000 miles. With a smaller engine I also think that the quality and suitability of the oil makes a more noticeable difference. For example fully synthetic being better than semi synthetic or mineral oil. The less friction in a small engine the less heat and the more power to the back wheel.
I now have 2300km on my Hunter 350. It vibrates less past 80km/h compared to the beginning, it also gets to 100km/h faster. Initially I was worried that I would not be able to comfortably use the bike for highway riding but not anymore. Running in was tedious but rewarding like you said.
Of course, The Classic 500 needs no tappet adjustment as it has hydraulic self adjusting tappets. Lot's to look forward to on your channel. I own a 411 Himalayan and whilst I have no intention to part with it, a review of the new 450 will be interesting, as will any Classic 650 which may be released. I have a Fuel X Lite waiting to be put on my Classic 500, so a review of the one for the all new 350 will be interesting. They've obviously managed to get around those Euro 5 ECU restrictions. My c5 classic 500 just crossed 11,000 miles. It's running even better than it did before. If you really want an improvement the Hitchcock stainless exhaust pipes are great. It's like a new motorcycle. I should have done this right away.
I’ve still been waiting on RE to announce the possibility of a 650 scrambler, it’s been rumored for a long time now. Been trying to hold off of buying an interceptor and just customizing it myself, but they seem to come out with every type of ride with that 650 engine except for a scrambler 😂
Fully agree with your thoughts about the 350 J series - my Hunter has just over 1500 on the clock, it feels better every time I take it out and I'm getting 98+mpg going 'down the lanes'

Someone below commented on the "Classic 650 twin" as being the name for the new bike,I have seen an Indian patent application form on line with the name "Constellation" on it which would make sense.The two original big twins were the Constellation and the Interceptor so would keep to the script,as for the 350's our classic just gets better and quicker so it's not the odd bike doing this.I have fitted Hiscocks Cat replacement pipe and a DNA air filter cover keeping the standard silencer and can totally recommend these mods,they give a noticable increase in performance.

I use Hitchcocks and I live in Texas and they are quicker to ship with DHL than me going to the local dealership in town !
Stuart please review the BRIXTON Cromwell 1200. It’s a parallel twin 1222cc engine made in China but making a big impact ! Has quality part all around like NISSIN calipers, Italian throttle bodies and many interesting bits
When I had my new speedo because of the well-known problem, I asked my dealer for a certificate of the old mileage, took a photo of the clock before he removed it and entered it into my service book. Therefore, when I sell it, there will be no doubt as to the correct mileage.
I just hope they get the classic 650 right. So far the spy photos don’t look encouraging with the shape of the fuel tank and toolboxes being all wrong, but this could just be RE holding their cards close to the vest.

I have been riding motorcycles since 1997 and am now 64. During this time I have only owned 4 bikes. A 125 shooter, 650 Fazer, 1250 bandit, and another 1250 bandit. The last 3 were all bought second hand costing less than £3000. My question is why do people keep buying motorcycles, especially new ones? I love my big bandit and would be very happy if it was the last bike I ever bought.
I've owned 15 or so motorcycles over the years. Some have turned out to be much less appealing than I originally thought. My increasing age and diminishing strength have changed my tastes as well. I can't explain anyone else's buying preferences. As for the new vs used, I have bought and been pleased with both, but price (of new) and availability (of used) play into the decision.

Hi Stuart, I’m a long time subscriber and enjoy the bike reviews (and sometimes watches, jackets…), I was just wondering if you ever considered doing a review on a Moto Guzzi V7? I know it’s obviously not a British bike but it seems it would be the kind of motorcycle you might enjoy, and me also.
I don't know about the 350, but I reckoned my 500 B5 EFI wasn't fully run in until there was 5000 miles on the clock
11000km in about 2yrs for my 411 scram. Still my favorite little bike for everything.
As to oil, I changed in 2022 at 300 miles but did not in 2023 and now changing in 2024 at 6000 miles. It’s garaged so I hope it turns out ok
What would really be the difference between a classic 650 and the Shotgun? Spoked wheels and worse suspension? I'm just incredulous that RE are continuing to let Triumph own the Scrambler market.
I'll be interested in your thoughts on the 450. Not that it will make any difference as I've already put a deposit down.
Hi Stuart, what's your thoughts on Royal Enfield changing the service schedules of the valve adjustments? I purchased a new Meteor this year and just had the first service completed and was informed of the changes made, do you personal think the valves should be checked and adjusted? all i can imagine is they have changed to a harder material for the valve seats. so it doesnt compress as much in the first few miles. either way im sure they know their engines!

My Hunter gets better and better! 10.000km , changed the air filter to the DNA. First it seemed to use more fuel but after 2.000 it return to average.

Will there be room in the queue for the RE Classic 650 alongside you? The Super Meteor and Shotgun are fine-looking beasts, but the Classic really would look nice next to my 500. Definitely got to wait for that.
Im having the same experience on my ktm 390 adv. It's at 1200 miles, and the engine is getting better and better each couple hundred miles. Before, it got quite viby between 6k and 7k revs where the peak torque is at. Now, that vibe is not as noticeable.
Hi, Stuart. I have a question for you regarding the service intervals of the Classic 350. I have read in a Facebook group that RE have updated the service guidelines, stating that the valve clearance now needs to be done at 6k miles instead of the current 300 miles first service. Could you please bring some enlightment on the topic? Thanks in advance.
i cant comment on any updates as my 350 is 2 years old. usual schedule is to check and adjust at 300 miles then every 6k thereafter.
I commute on the RE Hunter 350. That being said, I rarely do anything else on it because, let's face it, engine power doesn't serve only top speed or quick acceleration. Motorcycle is a tool for a job and these 350s are great tools, just not for anything faster than back roads.

The 350 doesn't go faster than 75 miles per hour on a flat road, 63(?+-) uphill and that's what it is. It does it reliably, cheaply, comfortably, it looks awesome, sounds even better, all of which is great.
But
traffic on some roads moves faster than what this bike is capable of, or even what is comfortable. It can do 60 all day long but riding 70 for longer than a few minutes feels abusive (just my oppinion..)
So I don't ride on faster roads with this bike. Not just motorways.

Once you've ridden them a few times it becomes a bit same-old same-old. They swallow all your money. They need constant attention.

Hi I've just found your channel due to your enfield classic 350 content could I trouble you to try and answer a question? I'm looking to get back into bikes after 10 years of not having one the last time I rode it was on a bandit 1250 I'm like the look of the classic but I'm worried about the power loss from my last one do you think I may regret the purchase of such bike I'm now 49 would a different bike be more suitable any advice appreciated.
honest answer? if power and speed are your main priority, i would suggest you are buying a motorcycle for the wrong reasons.
Quick question. I ride the same roads as you on a classic 350. When you set the rear shocks did you click 1/2 notches and did you wind them back when you didn't have a pillion ? Does it affect it without pillion? Awesome work. Keep it up 👍
just one click. ride is ok solo on that setting maybe a little harsh.

I try to find owner reviews, where the opinions are formed by real world use after months and miles, not a hour or 2.

Morning Stuart, I have a technical question for you. I am having issues with my EVAP on my 500 Classic. Is it simple to remove it? I keep getting fuel tricking out of it, and my bike is running rough.

i would get it in to a dealership and have it checked out. probably just a loose hose they are only push fit for the most part or there may be a blockage in the system somewhere.
Hi Jim , i have a 2018 Classic 500. i had trouble similar issues to yourself. Did you fill your petrol tank to the brim? I did and fuel was forced out into the EVAP filter down by the swingarm pivot and onto the ground, and also back into the fuel injector making the engine run rich.

How to cure, either go for a reasonable run (if bike runs) to reduce fuel level in tank.
I removed the EVAP system completely as
The Charcoal canister by the swingarm was contaminated. These were unavailable as a spare at the the time ( I don't know about now). If you want to go down this route , let me know and i will explain how i did it.
Why do motorcyclists do so few miles? I bought a brand new Honda CG 125 a few years ago and used it nearly everyday unless I was walking somewhere for the day, sick or it was icy or snowy. I did the same mileage as a car driver...about 10000 in the first year. Why can't people use motorcycles as everyday transport rather than playthings...what's the problem. I know it's cold in winter but it's cold walking, it's cold standing at a bus stop ..at least the cold on a motorcycle is more short lived. I live 13 miles from Aberystwyth with free motorcycle parking in the centre of town( the biggest place for a 70 mile radius) and there are never any large engined (plaything/toy) motorcycles in the winter (total waste of money). Come on everyone...use the thing and save money, your mental health, the planet and have some fun

I have not owned a car in 4 years and use my Royal Enfield daily for everything...saved alot of money and Gas.... heated gear and Gore Tex... no big deal....

If a 650 Classic comes out, it looks like the 350 Classic but with the bigger engine I’m buying one.
I could nt wait and bought a intenrceptor mark 2 (the silver with red stripe one) however... my love is with the classic, but I need extra power for driving in Madrid city highways... 90 and 100km/h allowed, I need to get in and out safely.

I have an interceptor 650 which is terrible for pillions out of box.
I have added rear footpeg relocation kit, Deluxe Touring seat and Backrest.
Now my gf loves it.
We did 200km trip in a day. No complaints.
Hi Stuart… just a point on the numbers of viewers who aren’t subscribed, or not showing as such in your data. For a while now, I’ve been watching your regular bulletins on my ‘new’ (to me) TV box, which unlike my old one, has UA-cam connectivity built in.. However, it doesn’t give the opportunity to ‘like’ subscribe, or post comments. I wonder how many other watchers are using different devices which have different degrees of interactivity (or even visibility to you as originator).
Also, while still showing as ‘subscribed’ on my desktop (iMac), I only get notifications as a red bell in the corner of the YT site… and even then it’s sporadic… but never as a message in my e-mail inbox (unlike if I get a reply to a comment on other YT channels… even to comments I’ve made years before). I guess UA-cam and the internet in general has a lot of little foibles we’ll never fully understand.
As a suggestion for future pieces: how about comparisons … price, etc. … between accessories bought from the mainstream, like Tec, Motone, Baak, and Mr.H etc., and seemingly identical items from Ebay , BangGood, and AliExpress at often a fraction of the price - e.g. Motone’s ‘exclusive’ Aero tank top luggage rack, which they sell at around £70 with post and VAT, but can be bought from numerous AE sellers at around £20 - £25 inc VAT and carriage… Adjustable levers sold by several specialists at a premium price can be bought direct from the Chinese manufacturer… FXCNC… via AE at massive savings. At least Hitchcock’s don’t try to pretend stuff’s their own, though their ‘Enfield Precision’ silencers are re-branded PoweRage units from India, with the new brand etched on by the factory (and are excellent quality, as you’ve found on your 650… I've got the PoweRage branded versions on mine, matched to UK made 'Stratos' header pipes, which are excellent and give the 650 twin even better torque characteristics).
Just some thoughts… Keep riding safe, and keep on keeping it ‘real’ (and keep the 'political' episodes coming. We mustn't get complacent, or we'll be buggered).
many of the items you buy from others are copies. Motone make all their own products including the aero rack, I know because I was involved in its development and prototype testing, The copies arrived later.
All tec stuff are copies of other peoples products.
Hello! Totally agree about the reviewers on UA-cam or elsewhere on the net. When I see one of these guys take a brand new classic 350 for less than 100 miles directly on the highway for a top speed "mesure", I suffer too much to see the end and I NEVER come back on that channel. But what is important here : his 2nd Himalayan is 100'000 km old!!! Can't understand some people. You find a way to increase subs that works for you - & you should stick to it. Can only think that the detractors work in the public sector & have no pressure to increase "sales".

I have a BMW g310r widely written off as a commuter bike.
I have a history of racing on four wheels on karts and cars even being offered a drive by a bttc team manager. I've raced and beaten many drivers who have gone on to win national championships. I refuse anyone who claims my bike is not a sports bike. It has 35bhp and weighs 158kg same as an rd250lc and similar to the Moto morini three and a half. I can ride along with any bike if any power on b roads without losing ground ... Up to 80mph at which speed I'm happing to stick and let riders if faster bikes carry on. . And here's the point. Fast bikes are only faster once you get into the illegal speeds beyond 80mph uo to that point you will see my bike snapping your heels.
The obsession with speed that is continually pushed through the media is the reason that motorcycle licence laws will never change anytime soon.
Too many of the journalists rate bikes on how fast they are, and what power they've got. Completely missing the point of most of them......Dissing small capacity bikes because they're not powerful is poor journalism......the problem is a lot of their readers believe them.
Well over 40,000 miles on my 650 interceptor with only a broken speedometer cable and a rattling buzzing pre-cat in the left pipe. Amazing bike
