- We are Touring into Namibia. #namibia #sossusvlei #walvisbay Join us on this epic adventure where we would be touring into Namibia and seeing sites in Spitzkoppe, Uies, Henties bay, Swakopmund, Lang strand, Walvis bay, Solitaire, Sesriem, Moon Valley, Sossusvlei and Dead Valley.
Whiles having an early morning coffee with rusks we were joined by very curious and friendly, we then packed up our camp and went to see all the beautiful landmarks, viewpoints and historical sites that spitzoppe has to offer.
The first land mark that the GPS pointed out to us was a natural water pool not too far from where we had camped. This pool is a natural water reservoir that is half way up one of the granite hills that would fill up with water running down the highest peak of this hill in the rainy season.
Having the GPS made it easier to find the attractions in the area because we didn’t see arrows or signboards that would guide us to the different sites in the area. The next viewpoint was called the arched rock or the Spitzkoppe bridge. Be careful climbing up to this arch, as it is quite steep and there aren't any steps, guiderails or ropes helping you to the top.
The last attraction that we visited was called the little bush man's paradise. Here we found Michael who was our tour guide. He had such deep knowledge about the area and Bush man who used Spitzkoppe for thousands of years as a pitstops and a rituals site for rain fall and favor while hunting or the gathering of food.
Leaving Spitzkoppe, we decided not to take the tar road leading directly to Swakopmund, but instead we took the road cutting into the old Damaraland district trough the mining settlement called Uies, here in Uies we had the chance to fill up the vehicles with fuel and to get some snacks for the next seemingly endless road across the Namib desert in the direction of the Atlantic Ocean.
It is on these long stretches of road where you don’t have many distractions or you don’t even see a shrub as high as your knee, where I really get enjoy the overlanding experience and begin to appreciate the comfort of the awesome vehicles and setup that makes all these adventures possible.
From Uies, the trip took us about 1 ½ hours of driving through the Namib desert. This was hands down the flattest and the most desolate land scape that I have ever seen other than the salt pans in Botswana. But just like that the scenery made a 180-degree flip. The one moment we went from being in the desert and the next we were driving next to the South Atlantic Ocean on the beach. when we reached the South Atlantic Ocean where we had to book a camping spot in Henties for the night. Despite the fact that we had the cold and misty wind blowing from the beach into the campsite.it was totally different then camping in the Kalahari where you have the sound of sand geckos and jackals calling at night.
Overlanding is much more than just driving somewhere and pitching a tent in the wilderness. It's about the preparation and planning months before a trip as well as how stress free and comfortable you can get your Vehicle setup to suite your needs while you are in the bush and sometimes on very remote areas in the wild...
