I think this analysis is absolutely spot on! Tom's absence was very conspicuous and it was strange to me that he made up with Shiv so easily in this episode. It's also highly unlikely to me that mattson didn't already have the US CEO idea in mind, and this is yet another case of Shiv mistakenly thinking herself a genius.

It's going to be Kendall. Jerermey Strong pretty much confirmed this in an interview when he compared his character's fate to Richard III. (Who became King by destroying everyone close to him.) Jessie Armstrong is a far too intelligent and deliberate storyteller to employ some kind of farcical "bet you didn't see that coming!" ending like having Greg or even Tom ending up in the chair. Kendall's dramatic arc, along with pretty much all of the foreshadowing points directly to him being in the chair at the end. That's the point of the show. The only way to succeed in this late capitalist era is to be a killer--a person drained of all empathy or humanity, and willing to do whatever it takes to win. Kendall succeeds by becoming Logan. And he loses everything in the process.

i got lucky! lol. if im going to be totally honest, i actually wrote this script to say that Roman would be the winning vote for Kendal. I ended up switching my prediction right before i was about to record. And I'm not saying that to hedge. I'm now all aboard the Tom idea. But in a way, I'm almost heartbroken to say that since I know how much it means to Kendal, and have been pulling for his sobriety and succession since the beginning
So if Kendal "wins," I'll be happy for him

I hadn't considered that as an option, Rob. hmm... that would be an interesting twist, too!
I'll play devil's advocate though. Episode 9 opened up with Shiv seeing Jimenez on the TV saying they would count every vote. So unless a server is found that has the missing votes, it's going to come down to a lengthy court case.
It's also worth noting that Election Day happens in November, so even if Jimenez was named the President-elect, he wouldn't be sworn in to office until January (same for Mencken, which is why Kendal was asking Mencken to put out his opinion on the situation instead of acting to actually block the deal)

I think Roman is very sensitive and the sincerity of Ewan's eulogy made him realize everything was real and maybe how his own eulogy was a self serving move. He's the one who seemed to love Logan in the most guenine way of all the siblings, the raw intensity of Ewan absolutely affected him in a big way in the moment.

I think all the arrows point to Ken becoming Logan, and in this episode we had a further step: he emotionally destroyed Roman ruthlessly to manipulate him ( something he had never gone into before). I think the final conversion will take place in the final episode in a Michael Corleone way, the seeds have been planted… We all expect Kendall to fail again but I think the whole series has given the background for Ken finally go for the kill.

    • @Somewhere_sometime_somehow

This exactly, I feel like it's strongly hinted at. Kendal has been surprisingly adequate in his profesional life this season. But you can also kind of tell he is selling his soul to the devil a little. He will be succesful and enterily alone by the end I think. The Tom thing could happen I quess, but I just feel it makes more sense to have the conclusion center around Kendal as we've been closest to his journey all along. I feel like Tom winning or not by comparison is a little meaningless as I feel we are more invested in what happens in his marriage and his relation to Greg. I think if they are going for a big surprise at the end, Gerri is a possibility. She has the experience as interim CEO and she is just generally a more professional and capable person then most of the other contenders. Shiv and Roman is still on the table too, but a lot has to happen in the final episode for that to make any sense.

I agree. It's poetic that Tom, who has been working his ass off all season, gets picked as CEO over the 3 nepobabies. This punishes Kendall as after becoming Logan in the way he doesn’t want (in being a bad father) in pursuit of power, still he doesn’t get to become Logan the way he does wants (in business). Shiv gets fucked over and left with nothing but a child she's ambivalent about. Roman, who sides with Shiv only for it to blow up in both of their faces, is completely broken by this, so it wouldn’t surprised me if he kills himself. Roman's death would be a dark cloud over the family (like Rose's death was for her brothers) so that even Ambassador Connor will not be completely happy in the end.

  • @1DusDB
    @1DusDB Рік тому +88

    Two options:
    - History repeats itself: Kendall becomes Logan, being the powerful the great CEO, but completely alone without family (he fights with everyone) and without true friends.
-As Logan said about his children: They are not serious people, they are idiots, so their personalities, sins and behavior make them lose the company that their father built. Maybe with a final moral: don't be like those characters because you will lose in the end.

You are so right about Tom being CEO. One thing about this show is you've got to be very keen about the cameraman and he was intent on Matsson's facial expression about Tom. The three siblings need to all lose. I think it will be best for them as human beings. They can proceed with their joint venture and hopefully be better human beings and siblings to each other. This will be super hard for Shiv. A major blow to this truce they have and I'm anxious to see whether there will be some growth to her character and how she views Tom. I think that Kendall is most likely to win purely for dramaturgical reasons. He is the only one who is able to fully succed Logan - as CEO of Waystar and even more importantly as "neo-Logan". If CEO title goes any other way (Shiv, Tom, Greg whatever), CEO of Waystar position would be less that half as powerful as it used to be, so anyone occupying the spot would not succed Logan completely.
Tbh if it all comes down to Roman (which is probable), I think Kendall still wins, because as a "neo-Logan" he will make his brother into submission, just as Logan did in S1E6. This would reinforce idea of Kendall as a killer and a new Logan.

you took the worlds out of my mouth. I have been pulling for Kendall to "win it" since the begin (along with pulling for his sobriety). That was actually the original ending of my script. (sort of, I took it a step further for fun, but took it out since it was ridiculous)
My original ending had Roman voting for Kendal. Then I said something along the lines of. "Last, but not least, I expect Kendal to win not only the company, but to win back Rava as well."
Right before I was about to record, I decided that Kendall and Rava making amends is silly with just one episode left. That I was just saying what I wanted as opposed to what seems realistic. And that's when it clicked that I might be predicting Kendall winning wrongly since that's what I want as opposed to what I expect.
So right before recording, I moved the "Kendal realizes he was wrong about the danger, and wont pursue full custody" section up to the Kendal part of the video, dropped the "Kendal and Rava become a family again" silly idea, and pulled a 180 on Kendall winning
That genuinely hurt me to go a different direction since I've been pulling for Kendall for so long. But the silver lining is that the best "win" for Kendall is to lose the company and move on with his life =))

Your Succession reviews are my favorite, you manage to look at the characters, rather than just fall for a favorite and push that narrative. Thank you. I would add this, we really don't know that the election results won't be overturned either, do we? I hope it is not Greg, what experience does he actually have? He hasn't worked his way up from the dog outfit, other than to pull a name-dropping connection per his mother's advice. His only skill set, is lying, kissing ass, getting drugs, and blackmail. He isn't one of the children, but he keeps trying to weasel into his own made-up slot, making up names. He screwed Shiv, because she wouldn't pay him off with his blackmail, that he got from Mattson...probably on purpose as Mattson is stirring things up. The only people who dont' want to sell to Mattson are Roman and Ken (the terrible usurper whose hunger to run the company that his father built (everything Ken tries to do fails, no one wants to be around him) and he has no problem putting his father in prison if he could have. Roman is funny in a very mean, sarcastic way, but in no way capable of running anything, he too did not even work, until very recently, recall, he wouldn't even show up to work...at all other than to roll in when he felt like it and leave just as haphazardly.
It would be great if Tom ended up doing okay somehow and Shiv and he got back together, and we see Shiv wanting to be a good mom. Shiv does love Tom, she is one of the few who has shown real heart feelings, aside from Romulus, but again, he is very twisted and incapable of mature conversations, it is all quips and connected to partying, 'walk across to the bar', as he says something to that effect to Mencken. Colin does not like Roman, and I don't think he wants to work for him either. He does not respect him, like he at least did Logan. I don't want the show to end. Wait until everyone somehow finds out what Ken the backstabber and Hugo have been up to, that has to come out somehow, some sort of trump card to mess things up too.

Kendall is lining up his team because he already needed his siblings out so he could be the soul person standing to be “King”.

@@tammybenaytv4631 i dunno, this is Just a guess. But I think it must be Greg. Like Tom told Greg and Greg told Matsson. Greg already ratted Shiv out to Kendall before.

I really think your right about roman betraying Kendall and siding with shiv. There is a 2 second clip from either season 4 trailer or mid season 4 trailer, where it looks like Kendall pushing roman against a wall with one hand around it neck and face. and it looks like its in the boardroom they are always in. I cant find the clip anymore. Tom definitely gonna be named CEO

Thank you so much for your analysis - one thing that you didn’t mention but is an important detail is that Logan said that when he dies - Marcia gets his vote on the board - Marcis has two votes. And Marcia and Greg are seen talking in episode 4 although their conversation is cut off -I do imagine that she will swing her votes in favor of Greg. I don’t think any of the Roy children will be a successor. And Greg name is on their paper - he is a contender even if. He has a question mark

PERFECT! This scenario reminds me of Cersai's statement "when you play at the game of Thrones, you either win or die". That's how cutthroat this family is. I agree with your prediction. Despite all the mechanations Tom will end up CEO of Maatson's Waystar. This show is incred6!

That would be a great scene for sure. I think it could happen, she's been interim CEO and Matson seems to have a strong dislike of the family dynamic and nepotism.

I thought a lot about the final and my prediction is that Kendall will become the ceo because the narrative supports it since the show started with Kendall about to be announced as the next ceo after Logan but I think he’s going to lose someone. Either his daughter or Roman will die and Kendall will blame himself for it (I think it will be his daughter) it will be reflective of Logan blaming himself for his sister’s death. And I think the point/ the end will be he finally got what he wanted - to head his father’s company but at what cost ? Especially since he kept saying for the last 2 episodes that he was doing all this for his children.
