Nicely done. I went to university in Aix for one year, 1977-78, to study the French language and literature and ended up teaching French later on. it was an idyllic year. I was lucky enough to have a French girlfriend and I will never forget riding through the streets of Aix, especially Le Cours Mirabeau, on my motorbike with my girlfriend on the back. It seems like a dream now. Hemingway calls Paris A Moveable Feast and it is a wonderful city as I have lived there as well. But Aix has a Provençal charm and intimacy that Paris can’t match. Aix will always be my Moveable Feast.
I also visited Antibes in 2013 for a few weeks at the CIA. Pour les plus agees? Visited all along the Riviera St Tropez to Monaco while I was there Woul love to visit Aix Arles and a small place called Meux. . Damn the Pandemic looks like a trip back home to UK instead.🤣
that's a nice way to put it, like a Goldilocks approach, not too cold not too hot. It is always a fine balance between wanting to see a lot without rushing. That's why I don't like one-night stands, although sometimes a day-trip, like this one, can be fine, arrive early and stay late.
I lived in a small village a short distance from Aix for 4 years. I absolutely loved my time there. I would ride my velo to Aix on Sunday morning and spend the day drinking coffee and reading Le Monde paper.
A magical place. We discovered Aix when our daughter spent a year at the university and then we bought a flat overlooking Parc Jourdan, which we had as a holiday home for 12 years. I miss it!
@Frances interesting destinations, I would love to live and find myself in these cities. I am applying for scholarships to study in Venice with a double degree in Paris, Aix-en-Provence, or Stuttgart. Will see which will be my next destination in my life.
I had a smile on my face the entire run of the movie. Arles is one of my favourite destinations in France. I adore the place. It has that special atmosphere about it which I think you imparted so well through the places and visuals you chose and presented. As to a recommendation you made on the best time to explore. Well, my own memorable experience was rising up early and taking leisurely walks on rain glistenned cobbled streets while sipping café á emporter and taking small bites of croissant. A treasured memory. Thank you, thank you for sharing. It is much appreciated.
Dear Dennis, I've looked at many videos about Aix, and in my opinion yours is the best. Congratulations. I'll be going to Aix in two weeks for my second visit. It's been many years since I was there, and I just have to say I'm distressed to see so much graffiti on those gorgeous historical buildings. What a shame.
Thank you. At this time of quarantine, it is a real pleasure to watch your Movies and "get out of the house". Steves and Maxa don't do nearly as well. They both spend too much time showing themselves.
My partner and I spent 5 days in this beautiful city from December 19 to 24, 2018. Our apartment faced Richelme Square. Great video. Thanks for posting.
Thank you for this interesting as well as entertaining "tour" of the beautiful mini-city of Aix en Provence. I'm French, lived in London, Luxembourg, Malaga, Sidney, Perlé (Belgium), a little in Germany and now Osaka, but no other places made me feel LIFE as Aix does when I have the chance to come back to it. Although I was born in Martigues, the Provencal Venise, Aix, being more cultural with a little more interesting architecture and overall atmosphere, is the place I've always dreamed calling home. Maybe when retirement comes, I'll go back to my French roots and finally realize this long time dream.
Thanks a lot for such a detailed video. I am going to be visiting Aix on Tuesday and it's my first time. I have written down the important names of the streets that I want to visit. Your video really helped! Thanks again!
Thank you, I totally agree. My focus is always on the subject, not me. Once in a while I appear briefly so you know who is talking, but otherwise, it's all about the scenery. Those egomaniacs should realize they are ruining their own program.
I would say May to September is the good period to visit as the sky is most of the time clear and the temperatures mild to high...the atmosphere is then even better...
I'm loving your channel. It's a treasure, especially because these young influencers only actually show their faces when doing "tour". It's basically a vlog of their own face. Keep up the good work, sir. Your content is great. I must say something ... Your voice has a natural sarcastic tone in it, so during the whole video I'm in this state of mind of amusement, thinking you are making fun of everything and I LOVE IT.😂

This video gives a good sense of the way one can stroll the streets of Aix although I would recommend to come not as late in the year (shootings were obviously in autumn and some windy days: I felt cold watching it). Moreover, the light is even better in other seasons. One thing that was missed at the cathedral is the cloister: it is really beautiful and was closed for renovation for years but I believe it is accessible again nowadays.
This is such a beautiful laid back movie, not the rushing 'documentaries' that hop & fill youtube and other channels. The music blends as we stroll with you, like loafers - Flaneurs - such a beautiful word.Thank you Denniscallan.I was hoping to see cezzane's studio, at least from the outside - such a wonderful artist who made this place famous. However, Keep up the style/originality.

Excellent city to walk.....love all those fountains(there are literally hundreds of fountains) Edited: Forgot to mention the Calisson....they are excellent
We were in Aix last year 2018 and rented an apartment near the rotunda in the earth or Aix. Only to find out on arrival that the rotunda was shut because of a train line construction and that trees in the court Mirabeau where being taken down.
My family and I are looking to stay in southern France for several days and take day trips out to Montpelier, Marseille and maybe some other citiies. Would you all think Avignon or Aix might be a better base camp? Thanks in advance!
They are both good, but if by train, Avignon has slightly better service. I have lots of videos about both, Avignon: ua-cam.com/play/PLke86NFI6R8yvfGh3WYY8Xc6GwGrLVRxl.html and Aix, with Marseilles, ua-cam.com/play/PLke86NFI6R8xJ8C3hbjW3hblCMZE0ZRzi.html

Wonderful video. It gives me what the travel guides and online sites do not. Shame that the city seems to be peppered with graffiti all over. Senseless narcissism that we all have to unfortunately bare witness to. It is here too in America.
