With me the course to take is not clear. I am a 58 year old male. My PCP wanted a look at my liver. Ultrasound did not reveal any liver issues but it did reveal a mass on my pancreas. The EUS guy had me first. His diagnosis was 3x pusedo cysts (largest 21mm) Fluid was taken, CEA test normal, pancreatitis. One month later the CT guys took a look and declared a 5cm IPMN branch tumor, no pancreatitis. A third hospital did an image with dye, they could not come to a conclusion. I have my gallblader out tomorrow, hopefully this is the cause of my symptons. Comming up in 3 months is my yearly look at this 5cm mass (via CT). No one is sure what they are looking at.
Hello Maria, no I have not had surgery done. The experts down at UCLA evaluated the image and have decide not to operate. There is the danger that the mass bursts or turns cancerous but going in now (with no indication of malignancy besides size) would be more dangerous than a wait and see approach. I have yearly images taken of the mass.
Dan thank you for replying promptly. I have an apt with the specialist on monday, he'll decide if I need surgery. My MRI shows several small cysts. I am drained with this diagnosis, because I was not expecting this at all. I wish you luck and stay healthy.
Hello Maria, take some comfort in the fact that many times these cysts turn out to be what these people call "pusedocysts". They take a bit of the fluid out and send it to the lab. If you are getting the "EUS" procedure you can also take comfort in the fact the the EUS is considered the gold standard in diagnostics with this issue, even better than any kind of imaging. I do know how getting told that there is a concern with the pancreas can be so stressful. For me nothing relieved the stress besides having a few years of testing that indicated "no problem found". I do wish you luck.
+Dan R thank you for explaining this to me. There's too much information(scary) on line. I'm trying to stay positive. I'll let you know the outcome, Thanks again!
