Roatán Turtles

I don’t think one can ever see enough sea turtles and the nice thing about Roatán is that we saw two or three on every dive. In the first scene, there are two turtles wrestling. I thought it may have been a form of mating behavior so I stayed well away so as to not disturb them. As it turned out, they were jostling over a nice piece of coral to scratch the back of their necks! Like this particular spot, it became obvious that turtles return to their favorite places on the reef to sleep, scratch, and eat. On one coral head, there was a perfect turtle head sized hole where at least one turtle returned to eat.
Before this trip I’ve only seen turtles swimming gracefully through the water. It turns out they’re not so graceful on the reef. We witnessed many turtles chowing down on sponges and coral and just crashing into stuff. I guess they didn’t get the “do not touch the reef” directive every diver gets before a dive.
